From the 19th Hole

Boxing Day Friday December 26

Round 4

The Father - Son battle of the fairways. Actually while I was down in Taupo over Christmas visiting my parents, my father took me out for a game at the Wairakei International Golf Course. This is a really neat course with pathways for golf carts and over 70 bunkers to land in. Dad took me out on the cart and I think I may have been spoiled a little by the experience. Anyway onto the card...
Holes 3 and 8 were shortened due to maintenance of the fairway on 3 and a re-design of 8 that included a new water trap. 8 was only a 110 yard chip shot to the green so I'm not going to count it as a birdie

There were many shots worth mentioning on the day. One of the best was on the fairway at the 14th hole. There is a rather tall pine tree in the middle of the fairway. Dad said that in order to get past the tree you had to aim for it. The reasoning being that if you tried to pull or draw around the tree you invariably hit the tree. Dad aimed for the tree and on this occasion his subconscious let him down. There was a rather wooden crack and a few small twigs gently floated to the ground.
The next hole was also humerous in that I used a driver to reach across the chasm between the tee and the green. Dad's shot strayed to the left and was in the rough, while mine was headed straight towards the right side of the bunker. Foretunately the ball landed on top of the punga logs lining the edge of the bunker and bounced up and onto the green, within 8 feet of the pin! My father believes that I've been practicing voodoo again.
I guess you had to be there ....
This the back of the card showing the layout of the course.
