Just so everyone understands, what I'm about to tell you is the absolute quickest way to beat the game. There is no chance in hell that I would explain that entire game. Some of this might be a little sketchy because I'm doing this completely off of memory. So, here it goes.

Start by turning all of the marker switches on(there are 8). In order to turn the one on the clock island on, you must turn the time to 2:35 or something like that(the 2 I'm sure about). Then (once all the switches are on) go down to the pier and turn that switch off. A panel on the marker will swing open, take the paper that is inside. Make sure you do not pick up any other pages or else you will drop the page from the pier and you will have to go pick it back up in the marker box. Now go to the study, where the red and blue books are located, and go to the shelf of burnt books. Find the intact book on the middle shelf on the right. Inside there should be pages and pages of patterns, go to pg. 158 and copy that pattern down. Now go into the fireplace and press the switch on the side. The front will come down and a light will turn on. Enter the pattern on the door. Once the pattern is inputted, press the switch. If everything is done correctly the room will rotate and will then stop. Open the door. There should be a red and blue page(don't touch either of them) and a book. Open the book and wait, a guy will start talking to you. If you want you skip through it all by simply clicking on the picture. Once you click on the picture you will be transported to another room, there you will see a man. Talk to hime and when he holds out his hand, click on it and give him the page. If you dropped the page before you got there you are now officialy screwed. But, if you did not, you have now beat Myst.
