The Lads Big Day Out

The weather was changeable to start and kept on changing throughout the round. For a change Richard and I decided to test our mettle on the Takapuna Golf Course. Located beside State Highway One this course offered several challenges to Richard and myself. Richards main challenge was finding the driveway to the clubhouse. After missing the entrance he decided to "go around the block". The block is about a 15 minute journey and involves the above mentioned State Highway, encompasses an Indoor Sports stadium and half an industrial park. The weather was very changeable, (I put on and took off my jacket twice on one fairway. Richard felt that the wind was inconsistent causing him to slice a lot, (yeah right =)

Anyway on to the scorecard...

I have just realised that the Takapuna course is over 800 metres longer than the Chamberlain Park course. No wonder Richard and I dropped so many shots.
Holes worth noting are
Things I learned today.
  1. The foursome ahead of you having a golf cart doesn't mean they will be any faster.
  2. People who can't play for crap should learn to allow others to play through.
  3. Golf cart use should require a "Golf Cart driver's liscence".
The only real down side to our game was a foursome of golfing illiterates who drove their golf carts like 4 wheel drive buggies. They parked on the front face of greens. Drove all over the fairway rather than using the edge of the fairway and turning in at 90 degrees to the ball. They didn't rake the bunkers after playing out. Arrrgggghhh Sometimes it drives you to dispair. Must be calm and chant my mantra... "in with love, out with hate... in with love, out with hate..."

After pounding around the course, Richard and I went back to Richard's house. After a hearty meal of Hamburgers and Toffee Pops, we sat down to indulge in our favorite pastime of kicking the hell out of each other over a wargaming table. The score for the day:

Aaron -1/2 (I lost 2 balls but scored better in the golf and drew the wargaming)
Richard 1/2 (he didn't lose any balls and drew the wargaming)
All in all an exhausting day both mentally and physically and well worth the effort.
Our next game is scheduled for Tuesday the 14th of April. We get an extra Holiday over Easter at the University. I intend to make damn good use of it.
