Random Trivia about the Marines
This emblem embodies the tradition of worldwide service and sea traditions and it was adopted in 1868. The spread eagle, symbol of the nation itself, holds in its beak a streamer upon which is inscribed the motto of the US Marines: "Semper Fidelis," which means "always faithful" in Latin.
- A slang term for a Marine is Jarhead.
- The PFT (Physical Fitness Test) for Marines consists of a 3-mile run (max. 28 mins), crunches (min. 50 in 2 minutes), pull-ups (min. 3).
- The IST (Initial Strength Test) is needed to be passed by every new poolee (newly enlisted personel), it consists of a 1 1/2 mile run (max. 13:30 min:secs), crunces (min. 40 in 2 minutes), pull-ups (min. 2).
- The only Recruit Depot for women is located at Parris Island, South Carolina.
- For men enlisting west of the Mississippi, their Recruit Depot is located in San Diego, California.
