Herein, you can find a checklist of standard adventuring equipment that will be useful to your Hero through his travels in Gloriana. Note that not all of this equipment listed here would be available in any particular episode (well maybe in Dragon Fire)
Rations: Typically in the form of lean dried meat, the standard adventuring rations provide the daily fare for any wannabe Hero. After all, you can't be expected to work on an empty stomach! Varying from the ever-popular succulent lizard jerky to more exotic meats, rations offer a cheap subsitute to expensive inn and restaurant dining. If you have an adequate supply in your inventory, your character will automatically eat these as needed.
Fruits & Vegetables: Fruits and Vegetables act as delicious and nutritious supplements to rations and provide a significant source of fiber in your Hero's daily balanced diet. After all, our Hero shouldn't forget his Food Pyramid. They may have other uses too.
Speciality Cuisine: Do not forget to sample some of the exotic cuisines throughout your travels. Local delicacies such as felafels, gyros, pizza, garlic and avocado sandwiches, coagulated cow's blood products, knockwurst often provide a welcome change of palate, and should not be ignored for their nutritious value either.
Sweets: Chocolates, cookies and candy cater to the cravings of your Hero's sweet tooth and make excellent gifts for others (depending on whom you gift these to, of course).
Water: The life-sustaining liquid, the nectar of the gods, the most refreshing drink of all. Always carry an ample supply in waterskins, flasks or other suitable containers. In dry, desert regions, water is life itself. Water from certain sources, such as magical springs, pools or underground rivers may have rejuvenating or other special properties.
Rocks: Igneous, Sedimentary or Metamorphic, rocks make cheap and handy throwing weapons. You still need a fair amount of throwing skill for accurate and damaging hits. Rocks can be found lying around just about everywhere in the wilderness.
Daggers: A basic weapon suitable for throwing and passable in combat. Daggers are not particularly suitable for close combat because of the necessity of getting within easy range of your opponent's attack to use them effectively. They come in a variety of forms, from the basic ordinary run-of-the-mill knives, to balanced daggers made especially for combat, to magical and speciality daggers. A good set of throwing knives is critical for the Thief character.
Swords: The most basic weapon for a Fighter, swords too come in a wide variety to choose from - basic, fine, magical, flaming. A Flaming Sword is the trademark weapon of a Paladin who has the ability to ignite his sword into blue flames at will. There are specialized swords also, such as the Dragonslayer and the Ice Diamond, that work best against certain creatures or elements.
Spears: Though our Hero learnt to throw spears back in Tarna, he didn't have an opportunity to wield one in combat until Silmaria. A Spear too can make a formidable weapon, both in close combat, as well as for throwing. The Wurmbane Spear is a deadly, magical spear.
Axes: "Axe not what you can do for your weapon, but what your weapon can do for you". Battle-axes, fine or magical axes, with their razor-sharp blades, also make deadly combat gear in the right hands. They are much harder to wield though.
Bows & Arrows: Not all Heros are adept archers. Only as Elsa Von Spielburg, will you be able to wield a bow successfully.
Staves: The weapon of choice for Wizards and Mages, a staff may not be very effective in
physical use, but it more than makes up for this deficiency by the deadly dose of spells that it can
dispatch. Spells cast with the aid of a Magic Staff are typically enhanced and don't expend
the caster's mana. Magic staves are created from magically attuned wood through ritual, and can
be summoned by the Mage using a Summon
Staff spell.
Specialized Weapons: These may work well in unqiue situations and with certain skills, such as a Trident for effective underwater combat, a Blackjack for stealthy attacks.
Armor: From the basic leather jerkin, to the sturdier coats of mail (chainmail, platemail) to magical types, protective armor is a must have for all adventurers looking to get into fights. The lighter the armor, the more maneuverability your Hero will have, though probably at a cost of reduced protection.
Shields: Especially handy for parrying and blocking an opponent's blow, a shield is an essential item in the Fighter's repertoire. Different shields will offer varying degrees of sturdiness, but magical shields typically provide the best protection. Shields however, are not very useful to Mages, who need to have at least one hand free during combat, to be able to cast spells.
Helms: A helm will protect you from being overhelmed on the head. A must for all roman gladiators!
Healing Pills and Potions: Alchemical aids (not to be confused with drugs) that help heal your injuries and restore your health. You can purchase these at your local Healer's or apothercary. Potions are typically more expensive but they restore your health fully.
Stamina Pills and Potions: Often referred to as Vigor or Vitality pills and potions, these are fast-acting, all-natural, caffeine-free, pick-me-uppers that fill you with instant energy when you're tired and worn down. Great for those all-nighter FACS study sessions! Sometimes, natural substitutes (such as water from the Pool of Peace) work equally well.
Mana Pills and Potions: Replenish your depleted magical
spellcasting power through the use of mana pills and potions. Also sometimes referred to as
Power potions.
Poison Cure Pills: While these pills won't exactly be the antidote as they imply, they certainly ward away the death from poison. Keep a handy supply of these pills available, especially when combating venomous critters like spiders, cobras, and wyverns.
Specialized Brews: Dispel potions, unguents, disenchantment pills and the like can be very useful in certain situations. Local apothecaries may be willing to concoct these brews for you if you bring them the necessary ingredients.
Guild Membership License: Once you've paid the membership fee and joined the local Thieves' Guild, you'll get your very own Guild card. Be sure to carry this with you at all times. Without it, fellow thieves may treat you as unlicensed scum and put a dagger in your back!
Lockpick: As a Thief you must become one with your lock-pick. This tool can open doors into realms you have only imagined. Wonders will lie before you, and become your own, for the Art of the Thief is to free others from their need for material possessions and to teach them that inner peace comes not from what you have, but from what you have not.
Thieves' Toolkit: Containing everything from lockpicks to credit cards, a good Thieves' Toolkit holds everything you need for illegal entry. Some of the best ones on the market today like the Acme Mark II Toolkit come with tools to disarm traps as well.
Oil: Handy for greasing and silencing squeaky hinges on chests, cabinets and doors, oil is an essential item in any successful thief's repertoire. It is also useful for easing the insertion of lockpicks and moving heavy objects.
Rope: A length of sturdy, tensile rope is most useful for climbing steep, slick walls or preventing great falls. In the words of the immortal Sam 'the Man' Ganges, "You gotta scope the rope if you wanta cope."
Grapnels: Grappling hooks, that, when attached to a sturdy length of rope, provide excellent upward mobility for the Thief. A set of magical grapnels, that grasp and release on command, can be truly rewarding!
Pickpocket Knife: This Handy Dandy Pickpocket Knife slices, dices, and juliennes those purses right off a victim's belt, if you are stealthy.
Blackjack: A very valuable weapon for the sneaky thief, this can be used to subtly knock opponents unconscious without resorting to facing them in combat.
Money pouch: A purse to carry your money around is one of the most essential items in your Hero's inventory, as not many Gloriana establishments accept credit cards. Be wary of cutpurses though!
Jewelry: Your Hero can wear jewelry not merely for ornamental purposes or as an ostentacious display of affluence, but certain types of jewelry such as rings and amulets, can provide protection, enhance your abilities and act as good-luck charms. It may be given to you as a token of gratitude, and you, in turn, can give jewelry as a suitable gift to a friend as a symbol of friendship or love.
Flowers: A bouquet of sweet-scented flowers makes a nice and inexpensive gift. Just don't put any in your hair.
Containers: It is a good idea to carry containers such as empty flasks, pots, sacks, shopping bags handy for whatever you may find on your travels.
Tinderbox: A convenient set of tools to start your own fire (that is, if you're not handy with the Flame Dart spell). Essentail for setting up camp, roasting marshmellows and such. If you don't happen to have a tinderbox handy, you may be able to ignite a spark using a piece of flint and some steel.
Torch: A torch, candle or lantern is useful for lightning your way through
darkened situations (assuming it is lighted of course).
