Dear Adventurer,

Welcome to the latest edition of the Famous Adventurer's Correspondence School!

Thanks for your patience recently, and for waiting for this latest update. A lot's been happening in the last few months and we're in the home stretch now. Robin Bradley has moved on from this position and I have taken up the reigns that he so skillfully controlled; so any changes in writing style or quality of content are all my own fault, or at least the fault of my teachers at school.

OK, so the "new" news is that the ship date is no longer September. The game is pretty much feature complete, and is in QA as I write, but we don't expect a beta for a few more weeks. So ship date (out to you) looks more like a late October/early November date. The big things recently have been re-recording some voices (see below), getting rid of the critical bugs, fixing the mouse controls for pathing (clicking and moving around the screen), and introducing interface improvements to make the game really easy to play straight out of the box.

Everything is really coming together now, and each week sees the game becoming richer and more detailed. It really is a beauty of a game, and wows everyone who sees it; so we want to thank you all for the patience you've shown in waiting for it, and realize how frustrating it must be with each newsletter to hear about the ship date moving back. We've been showing the game to the press around the country, and at conventions such as MacWorld in New York, GenCon in Milwaukee, and the upcoming DragonCon in Atlanta (September 3rd - 7th), visit us if you can. Here's the link to one of the most recent reviews we've had from a journalist who's seen a recent build of the game: http://www.gamepen.com/pc/dragonfire/preview2.html

GameWeek Online Conference:
Either Lori Cole (Designer) or Jay Usher (Project Manager), or both (!), will be online on Sept. 9th at 7.00pm pacific/10.00pm eastern. This is a GameWeek event, check it out at and get the latest from the horses' (no offense intended) mouths: http://worldwithoutborders.com/GameWeek_Sept.shtml

Web site Overhaul:
Www.qg5.com is undergoing a significant design update, and we'll be showing it off soon. We're planning to make it a much more interactive site, especially after the game ships when you'll all be wanting to ask questions as you get stuck in the bank, or lost in Atlantis. So please come and visit the site in 2 to 3 weeks to see all the new art, screenshots etc. that we have been hiding from you all these months.

Quest for Glory V Recording Session North Hollywood, CA (August 21):
During the session additional lines were recorded and new actors were brought in to enhance 10 of Dragon Fire's 50 speaking characters. Among the new talent is German-born Arianna Weil, who stars as the voice of Elsa, and Michael Sorich, the voice of Ferrari. Sorich, who hails from native Greek family, also provided Silmaria's guards with an authentic Greek accent. Dragon Fire's initial 3725 lines of dialog (totaling approximately 10 1/2 hours) were recorded over a year ago in the summer of 1997. According to Jay Usher, small changes in the story during the past year of production made it necessary to change "anything that didn't work within the context of the current game." "Each day [during the pick-up session], as each actor read their lines, they were encouraged to experiment with their voice tonality and inflection. Sometimes even deviating from the script in order to capture the true character." said Usher. "I was very impressed by the results."
