What should I do with my money from Spielburg?
- You can exchange it for Dinars and Centimes at the
Money Changer's.
- Ask about the Money Changer. Harik Attar, Abdulla, and the
Katta merchants can all help you.
- Use the map supplied with the game to figure out where in the city
she should be, following the directions you have been given.
- Alichica's directions will also get you to the Money Changer's,
but it is very hard to follow them.
- The Money Changer will be overjoyed to exchange some money with you
(for a slight commission, of course).
- You can get a better deal exchanging a little money at a time.
How do I earn a living?
- There are several ways of making money in Shapeir and almost
none in Raseir.
- You won't incurr any living expenses while staying with your
katta friends in Shapeir, but do keep a reasonable amount,
say 50 dinars, on your trip to Raseir.
- You can always fight and defeat monsters and search their
bodies for dough. Brigands and Jackalmen are the only ones that
have Dinars and Centimes on them. You can also sell Scorpion's tails
and Ghoul claws to Harik at the Apothecary
for money and pills.
- Almost always, it pays to bargain with the local merchants when
buying and selling stuff. The higher your communication skills, the
better a price you will be able to get on an item. Sometimes, if
you demonstrate need for a good cause (such as defeating an
elemental that is plaguing Shapeir); people will give you
merchandise for free. However, don't take unfair advantage of the
generosity of the merchants, especially if you are trying to be an
honorable hero; after all, they have mouths to feed too.
- You could try to please someone who is rich, like the sultan.
What would make him happy? Those elementals seem destructive,
don't they? What if you rid the city of the elementals?
- There are quests you can complete, including defeating the
elementals, that will yield substantial monetary rewards. Check out the
Quest Board in the Adventurer's Guild Hall for
work. Again it is a perfectly honorable action to refuse the reward if
you don't need the money and it could be used better elsewhere.
- If you are strong enough, you can win money Arm Wrestling with
Issur at the Weapons Shop.
- If you are quick and agile, try your luck at tight-rope
walking in the Fighter's Plaza.
The tight-rope walker appears there on alternate days, and will
even offer twice the money during the time the Air Elemental is
present in Shapeir.
As usual, thieves have other sources of income. Talk to Dinarzad,
the Money Changer for places to rob and
return to her to fence the goods.
Where can I sleep at night?
- While in Shapeir, your katta friends Shameen and Shema will host
you at the Katta's Tail Inn as gratitude
for helping them in Spielburg. Room and board is free, and Shema
will serve delightful, home-cooked meals twice a day.
- You can rest in the desert, and even take a short nap at
Julanar's alcove; however, overnight camping
in the desert is not recommended!
- At Raseir, you won't have a choice but to stay at the shabby,
unkempt Blue Parrot Inn at ridiculously
high rates. Be wary of the proprietor Signor Ferrari and the inn's patrons.
How do I become a Wizard in this game?
- Shapeir holds one of the hidden gateways to the Wizard's
Institute of Technocery (W.I.T.) where an aspiring Mage can become
a wizard.
- First you must know the nine spells required to undergo W.I.T.'s
Initiation - Calm,
Detect Magic,
Dazzle,
Fetch,
Flame Dart,
Force Bolt,
Levitate,
Open, and
Trigger.
Shop around at the Magic Shop for those you don't have.
- The institute is carefully concealed so only a spellcaster can
find it. Use your spells in the streets of Shapeir to locate it.
You might detect something worthwhile.
How do I find the entrance to W.I.T.?
- Take the tests, but don't worry if you don't succeed at first.
The practice in spell casting will help increase you skills.
- Qualifying as a Wizard is as easy as passing the Initiation tests,
but do you really need a PhD there?
Where can I practice my skills and spells?
Give me some tips on fighting the monsters.
Tell me something about the game plot and my mission.
What all is there to see and do in Shapeir?
- Shapeir is a sprawling metropolis and the center of civilization
in the southern desert lands. There's a lot to see and do here,
so keep your eyes and ears open.
- Read your Famous Adventurer's Correspondance School guide book
included with your game.
- The plazas are bustling with activity and
filled with katta merchants selling their diverse and exotic wares.
- Talking to everyone you meet and asking questions will give you a
feel for what is going on in Shapeir. You can always go mongering for
rumors.
- The Katta's Tail Inn provides a hearty meal
and a comfortable bed for the Shapeirian tourist. Abdulla Doo is a wealth of
gossip when he is around at the inn, so ask him questions about what he is
saying.
- The city boasts of an Adventurer's Guild Hall,
an entrance to the fabled Wizard's Institute of
Technocery, an Eternal Order of Fighters Guild, and
even a contact for the Thief.
- Some of the bigger shops you should visit during your stay here include
the Apothecary, the Magic
Shop, the Weapons Shop, and the
Money Changer.
- Be sure to call upon the local Enchantress and the
Astrologer as well for some polite conversation
and startling revelations.
- Surrounding the city is the vast, golden desert of
Shapeir filled with fearsome monsters and suprising secrets. It can be
quite an adventure exploring the desert; just be sure your are well
prepared and properly equipped or you might not survive.
- Go to the Adventurer's Guild Hall and read the
"Quest Board" for things to do.
- You can practice combat with the Guild master, arm wrestle with Issur,
walk the tight-rope, and even break into houses and shops (if you are so
inclined and equpipped).
- Being a hero, you may be called upon to defend the city against Elementals
from time to time.
Help! I keep getting lost in the alleyways Shapeir!
- Whenever you come to a passageway in the alleys, type "Look".
This will give you the names of the streets you have come across.
- Locate the streets on the map supplied with the game to navigate
around the city.
- The merchant outside the inn has a map and compass, but your money is
no good with him. His directions to the money
changer is also quite vague.
- If you ask the friendly Katta at the gate
plaza, he'll tell you the name of the street where the money changer
can be found. Look at the map that came with the game for the street and
head towards it.
- As soon as you have some Shapeirian money, buy a map from Alichica
and use it to help you get around.
How do I defeat the Earth
Elemental?
- The Earth Elemental appears randomly on the streets of Shapeir a few days
after you have defeated the Air Elemental. The
Katta merchants and other citizens will inform you when it is unleashed on the
city.
- First talk to Aziza about Elementals, contrary elements,
containers, and the Earth Elemental.
- You will need to wear down the Earth Elemental with the contrary element (fire)
before you can capture it.
- Go talk to Rakeesh, the liontaur, for some ideas.
Rakeesh will be more than happy to loan you what you need. Ask him about
his flaming sword and borrow Soulforge. Be sure to return it back once you're done
using it.
Talk to
Harik at the Apothecary about the Earth
Elemental and Earth. You will have to bargain carefully for what you
need (Powder of Burning).
You
should be able to use one of your fiery spells against the Earth Elemental,
but it will take a lot of spells to weaken it.
- The container (cloth sack) can be purchased from a merchant in the
Fighter's Plaza.
The merchants' prices are too high for me. What do
I do?
- Maybe you could fast talk the merchants.
- Try BARGAINing with the merchants.
- You can do this with almost every merchant, every time.
Do I need to buy a saurus?
- You must buy a Saurus if you want to win the game.
- You will have to deal with Ali Fakir on day 2 or so. Hold out for
the best deal. 5 dinar is the least he will settle for. DON'T refuse
the final offer.
- Once you own a saurus, type "ride"
to get it out of the pen. You may also "mount
" and "dismount".
- The saurus, at first, may seem to be a bad bargain, but this is a
very special saurus. If you are lost in the desert, tell it to go home
and it will take you directly to the stable. It will also allow you
to travel faster and use less water.
- If the Saurus runs away from a monster, just defeat the monster,
wander out of the room, then come back and your Saurus will be waiting.
It really is very loyal. If you still can't find him, head back to town
on your own. Your Saurus will eventually make its way back to the
stable.
- The guard at the gate will take care of your saurus once you
dismount.
What should I do in the bazaars?
- The Katta merchants in the bazaars will be happy to sell you things,
some of which are crucial to your survival. Try bargaining with them
if you are running short of money.
- They will also occasionally keep you informed about what is going
on in the plazas.
- Everyone knows one another in the bazaars, and they are certainly
keeping track of your actions.
- Different plazas have different things to do and house various
merchants and shops.
All the plazas are empty of merchants! What happened?
- The Katta merchants fold up their stands at night (Look at the
time of day from the game menu). Come back the next day.
- If it is daytime and the merchants are not present in a plaza,
perhaps there is a good reason for this. See if any Elementals are around.
What can I do here?
- This is the main entrance to the city of Shapeir. If you want to
venture out to the desert, use the gate here.
- Shameen and Shema have set up their inn
here.
- Alichica has his stand here. Ask him about his stand
.
- Buy a map from him as soon as you have some money - it will prove
indispensable for navigating the maze-like streets of Shapeir.
- He will also sell for a compass for finding your bearings in the
city as well as the desert.
- The snake charmer is providing some local color. Be generous and
give him some money.
How do I defeat the Fire
Elemental?
- The Fire Elemental appears in the gate plaza around day 4.
- First talk to Aziza about Elementals, contrary
elements, containers, and the Fire Elemental.
- Then talk to Harik at the Apothecary about
the Fire Elemental and Flame.
- You will need to buy incense from him in order to lure the Elemental
away from the plaza before you can capture it. Don't buy more than 1
packet of incense though.
- You will also need water from the fountain as the Contrary Element
and a proper container for fire (a lamp). Tashtari, the brass merchant
will be able to sell you one at his stand in the
Fountain Plaza.
- The elemental is roaming freely in the plaza. Try to lure it by dropping
incense in front of it and having it follow you into the street.
- Once in the street, you can squirt it with water. Use your waterskin
on it.
- Then put the lamp down and capture the weakened Elemental in it.
What can I do here?
- The Katta's Tail Inn is a place to stay the night and get free meals,
as well as a great source of information.
- Walk over to the room on the right, behind Shameen, to get some
rest or sleep.
Abdulla is a good source of gossip when he is around, so ask him about
the Sultan, the Astrologer, the News, the Emir, and Raseir
.
- Shameen will provide you with valuable details of the city and its
happenings, as well as the events at the inn itself. Ask him about
Raseir, the Sultan, and guest
.
- Shema is the motherly type who tries to make sure you get a good meal.
Sit down in the morning and evening to order some wonderful meals.
Give her a bouquet of flowers from time to time, she is sure to
appreciate your gesture.
- For information, ask her about Raseir, rumors, Sharaf, and the
Underground.
- For entertainment, watch her dance on the nights of her performance.
- The poet Omar will recite poetry here on certain evenings. It is very
rewarding to make a point of showing up on the evenings he is to perform.
Shameen will remind you of the days he shows up.
- When he performs, it is best to sit down and listen. Ask him about
the Dervish, Raseir, Paladin, and Enchantress.
What can I do here?
- A lot of katta merchants have set up their stands here.
Ask then about their wares and buy whatever seems useful
.
- The Apothecary and Keapon's Magic Shop are also located here.
- On some days you will find the beggar looking for alms
here. Ask him about begging and work. Be generous.
- On some days you may find the poet Omar here.
- The fountain provides an unending source of fresh water
and is a good place to refill your waterskins.
- You will also encounter an elemental here.
I found something lying around in the fountain plaza.
What should I do with it?
- Look at the object when you pick it up. There is a clue to its
owner inside.
- You can keep it, take the money, or try to return it to the owner.
This is entirely up to you and your character.
- If you are striving to become a paladin, you should do the honorable
thing.
- If you are having trouble finding the object, the poet Omar appears
in the plaza around noon on day 7. Listen to his poetry recital; then walk
to the other side of the plaza; wait a while and then return to the spot
where Omar was. You should see the purse lying there.
How do I defeat the Water
Elemental?
- This will be the last of the four Elementals to plague the city. It
will appear in the fountain around day 14.
- Ask Aziza about the Water Elemental, Contrary Elements, and
Containers.
- You already have a source for the Contrary Element (the bellows
with air); now where would you find a container?
- Keapon mentioned something about using a
waterskin to contain the Water Elemental; just make sure you have an
empty one.
- Don't get too close to the Water Elemental unless you have both these
items ready.
- Drop the empty waterskin near it. Then use the bellows with the Air
Elemental to blow the lady into the waterskin.
What can I do here?
- The Apothecary is the source of pills which will help your
survival. Stock up on healing, vigor, mana, and posion cure pills.
You can get some oil here as well.
- Harik Attar is a man obsessed with fire, and a good source for
information on the subject. Ask him about pills, dispel potions,
components, Raseir, Fruit of Compassion, and the Fire Elemental
.
- He may even give you his lamp if you need one.
- Harik also knows a lot about the Earth Elemental. Turn to him
for some help defeating it if you run out of options.
- Tell him about the caged beast and he will help you prepare a
dispel potion if you gather the needed ingredients.
- Harik is also a good source of income for the fearless
adventurer who is willing to brave the dangers of the desert to
gather ingredients for him. He will pay 20 dinars for a scorpion's tail
and 15 dinars for the claw of a ghoul.
How do I obtain a dispel
potion?
- Harik has the recipe for a dispel potion and he would be willing
to make some for you if you gather the missing ingredients. Talk
to him about it.
- You will need to find a Griffin's Feather and a Fruit of Compassion.
- Search the desert around Shapeir for a
griffin and you will be able to find a
feather nearby.
- The Fruit of Compassion can also be found in the desert. Talk to
the Enchantress Aziza about it and she will tell
you a story. Follow through on what she says and the fruit will be
your reward.
How do I obtain the Fruit of Compassion?
- Return to Harik with the ingredients and he will make the potion
for you.
- You only really need one, the extras are simply provided in case
you mess up on the usage instructions.
What can I do here?
- The Magic Shop is the place for magic items and information.
If you are a Magic User, you can get some spells here.
If
you practice the arts of thieving, a crucial magic item can be purchased,
providing you have obtained enough money.
- Keapon Laffin may be an airhead and overly fond of dropping names,
but he does know a lot about magic and the magical things going on
around Shapeir. Drop in to his store whenever you have a question.
- Ask him about magic, the enchantress, the dervish, spells, the Air
Elemental and anything else that has to do with magic
.
- He will pay you some dinars if you fetch him the whirl of a
dervish's beard.
- If you are desperate for dirt, he can give you a potful.
- For laughs, buy the X-ray glasses from Keapon. Doesn't he remind
you of someone?
What can I do here?
- The Weapons Shop and the Adventurer's Guild are located here.
- On some days, you can find Rakeesh sunning himself outside the
guild hall here.
- On other days, the rope walker will be demonstrating his skills
here and offering you a challenge.
- Maybe you should give this test a try.
- The more you try, the higher your agility. You can even make some
money if you're good.
Absolutely
don't miss your chance to walk the rope. You never know when you may need
such a useful skill.
- The Katta merchants in this plaza will gladly sell you extra
waterskins and a cloth sack. Both of these will make good Elemental
Containers.
What can I do here?
- The Weapon Shop of Issur is a good source for throwing daggers.
A fighter can get a fine sword here as well.
- The shop also has an object which will be critical for the defeat of an
elemental, but it isn't for sale.
- Issur is a bully and a braggart, but he is strong. Ask him about Arm
Wrestling,
and use him to help build up your strength.
If you are a thief, this place can be profitable, but you need more
information from the Money Changer first.
How do I get the bellows from
Issur?
- You will need the bellows that hang outside the Weapons Shop
to capture the Elemental of Air.
If you tell Issur about the Air Elemental, you can try to win it at
arm wrestling.
A thief will probably need to steal it at night, but will need the
magic rope to do so.
The Mage has a couple of ways to get it. The easiest is to use a
spell at night. Or you can calm Issur down and fast talk him into
parting with them.
What can I do here as a thief?
- You can break into Issur's shop at the opportune time. The Money Changer will tell you when to do
so and what you can expect to find there.
- Try picking the lock when the guards aren't around. If you
are having trouble, practice on the various doors in the streets
of Shapeir first.
- Pick the lock about three times. Wait for a guard to go by. Then
continue.
I've broken into Issur's shop at night. What can I
steal here?
- Close the door first so as not to attract too much attention. Try
to work quietly.
- What did Dinarzad tell you? Check out
the anvil.
- I hope you bought some oil from the Apothecary
. Oil that anvil!
- Now push it He-Man.
- Open the trap door. First make sure you're not standing on it.
- Pick the lock on the treasure chest and take the dough inside.
- Don't bother with the weapons or shields.
What can I do here?
- Read about the Guild Hall in your Famous Adventurer's
Correspondence School Manual.
- Study the Quest Board for information on things that need to
be done and how to make some money in the city.
- Make the Guild Hall a regular stop in your adventuring activities.
You never know just what might be waiting for you there.
- Uhura knows a lot about fighting. Practice martial arts with her
to increase your skills and chance at survival in the desert.
- Ask her about monsters, Rakeesh, Raseir, and the Sultan
.
- Rakeesh is sometimes found around the Guild Hall. He works
with the Sultan, and helps reward the virtuous.
- Ask him about Paladins, his leg, the demon, his kingdom, monsters,
and power.
He can be a big help to the fighter against an Earth Elemental.
What can I do here?
- Talk to the Katta merchants and the palace guards here
for some useful information.
- You will also encounter the Air elemental here around day 8
or so.
- Once you've saved the city of Shapeir from the elementals,
visit Shashanan the jeweler here when Shameen tells you to do
so.
How can I get into the palace?
- The only way to get into the Palace of Shapeir is to win the game.
The Hero Awards Ceremony is held there.
Give me some hints
on how to defeat the Air Elemental.
- The Air Elemental appears in the Palace Plaza around day 8.
- First talk to Aziza about Elementals,
contrary elements, containers, and the Air Elemental.
- Then talk to Keapon Laffin. He will give you a very subtle clue
about what is a proper container for air (a pair of bellows).
- The bellows hang above the Weapon Shop. You will need to persuade Issur to part with them or take them
behind his back.
- You can obtain the contrary element (dirt) in the Fountain Plaza from someone who uses it,
or from Keapon if you ask about it. Or you
just gather a bagful of it from the desert.
To use the contrary element against the Air Elemental, the fighter
should use his strength to withstand its force and then drop the dirt
into it.
The Mage needs to rise above the Elemental and drop the dirt into
its center when it passes underneath.
A thief can use his throwing skill to get it into the funnel. Or use
the magic rope to get above it like the Mage, although this can be
tricky.
- Then just capture the Air Elemental in the container.
How do I get here?
- Contact the Money Changer and follow her directions about
when and where to go.
- Be fully equipped as the Money Changer suggests. Make sure you
have your trusty lockpick (or a toolkit) and some oil to
quieten those squeaky hinges.
- When you find the right place at the right time, SAVE your game
before breaking in.
What can I steal here?
- Remember to use all your thieving skills here, and search the room
carefully.
- The tea service should be obvious to find; just grab it quickly.
- Don't forget to look under the carpet. Roll it back. Inside the chest
underneath the trap door there, there is some cash and another item of
value concealed in the chest.
- Pick the lock of the treasure chest and steal the dinars inside.
Search the chest and get the silver dagger from inside its false
bottom.
- Be as quiet as you can, and when in doubt, hide. The cupboard is a good
spot, but make sure it is well oiled first.
- The cupboard also harbors a valuable piece of silver; just search it
thoroughly.
- If you don't want to get caught, make sure you put the obvious things
back the way you found them.
- Bring the proceeds of your robbery to Dinarzad
to fence them. Bargain for a better price.
What can I do here?
- The Astrologer lives at the south end of Tarik of Stars.
- He can give you information about astrology and the omens of
the future, as long as you are honest with him. He will even
foretell your future, if you are willing to tell him about yourself
and return another day.
- Ask him about
- If you want to be kind, ask him about money and follow up on
what he says.
Where can I find the enchantress Aziza?
- Her house is located off the east end of Shmali Tarik on the
side street called Sitt Tarik.
- To visit her, do what one normally does when approaching a
stranger's door and answer her questions truthfully.
- For her first question, give your name. It's that simple.
- If you don't know who sent you, you can always reply,
Keapon Laffin, if you remember
what element the shopkeeper of the Magic Shop has between his ears.
Rakeesh, Omar,
and Erasmus are also acceptable
answers.
- When she asks about the person you answered, choose your answer
from below:
- Keapon Laffin: Did you notice what Keapon's place looked
like and what he was riding? Answer Air.
- Rakeesh: Ask Rakeesh about his leg to find out how he injured
it. Answer fight with demon.
- Erasmus: Don't you remember his familiar from Spielburg?
Answer Fenrus.
- As for the riddle she poses, think in terms of the alphabet.
- Who are you here to see? Answer Aziza
.
What can I do at her house?
- The Enchantress Aziza knows much about the magic of this land,
especially Water-related Magic and Elemental lore, and is more than
willing to share this with you, providing you approach her politely.
- She will give you crucial information about magic, the Djinn,
Iblis, the various Elementals, contrary elements, containers, W.I.T.,
and the Plant.
- Keep her informed of your activities in and around Shapeir; as
she may be able to advice you on how to best deal with enchanted
creatures and the magical things you encounter.
- Make a point of visiting her on day 16 as she requests.
- A seeker of the Paladin way should be extra polite with her and
try not to get thrown out of her house. Greet her, mind your manners,
share tea with her and bid her a courteous farewell when you are
ready to leave.
How do I find the
entrance to W.I.T.?
- The Wizard's Institute of Technocery is hidden so that only those
skilled in magic can find it.
- Cast your Detect Magic spell in the streets of Shapeir and
follow the arrows until you reach a dead end.
- The arrow will bring you to Sakir Tarik, a deadend alley north of
the fountain plaza.
- Another Detect Magic here should reveal a door that can be
magically opened.
How do I pass W.I.T.'s
Initiation and become a wizard?
- You will need someone to sponsor you at this prestigious institution,
so pick Archmage Erasmus from Spielburg as the sponsor.
- Try the others if you want, but these hints are only for the Erasmus
trial.
- His pre-test is pretty simple; all you need to do is detect the
only magical bell among the three, fetching it to the post, and ringing
it. Use the Detect Magic, Fetch, and Trigger spells.
- Don't worry if you don't succeed at first - you are getting
valuable practice, and you can always try again later.
- To pass the Wizards' tests, you will need almost all the available
spells. The nine spells required to succeed are
Calm,
Detect Magic,
Dazzle,
Fetch,
Flame Dart,
Force Bolt,
Levitate,
Open, and
Trigger.
Purchase what you don't have from the Magic Shop.
- Stock up on Mana pills from the Apothecary.
- Try your spells against the challenges knowing that you are gaining
experience as you use them.
- These trials are actually more useful when they're not completed.
The more you return, the higher your experience in casting spells.
- See the following hints if you are having trouble with the Wizards'
tests.
- Don't take the easy way out once you are an initiate! Shapeir
needs a hero more than W.I.T.
How do I pass the Wind challenge?
- The trick to the Air challenge is to stay above the problem
once it comes to you.
- You were told to walk through the wind. It's kind of difficult
to get to the wind, no?
- Try to bring the wind to you instead.
- Fetch the center of the staff.
- Oh oh, here it comes. Get out of the way!
- Levitate up until the staff passes.
How do I pass the Earth challenge?
- With the Earth challenge it helps to remember that what can be
done can sometimes be undone.
- The wall looks difficult to climb. Maybe you should turn it into
something else.
- If you trigger the wall, it attacks you.
- How could you calm it down?
- Try casting the Calm spell. A Dazzle spell will also work.
- Now make your move towards the wall. You'll automatically climb
it.
- If ugly wakes up, calm him again. Alternatively, trigger it
back into a wall.
How do I pass the Ice challenge?
- The Water challenge tries to teach you to only use a spell as
long as it is effective, and by targeting your efforts where they
will provide the most leverage.
- Use the spell that works best against ice. When you burn it with,
a Flame Dart, it will crack.
- Maybe you should widden that crack. Do you have a spell that could
force it wider?
- Use the Force Bolt a couple of times against the ice.
-
- After a Force Bolt, an Open spell will also do the trick.
- Make sure your aim is on target.
How do I pass the Fire challenge?
- The Fire challenge is an open and shut puzzle.
- Back to basics. How do you open doors? Use an Open spell.
- That fire sure is hostile. Calm the fire.
- You should probably push the door on the hole.
- Why not close the door first? What is the best spell for getting
something to swing your way?
- Try fetching the door knob.
- Finally Force the door to fall down. Use a Force Bolt on the
upper part of door.
What can I do here?
- Exchange your Spielburg money here for Dinars and Centimes.
- Dinarzad will be overjoyed to exchange some money with you
(for a slight commission, of course).
- You can get a better deal exchanging a little money at a time.
- Ask her about Raseir, money, and the Sultan
.
She is an excellent source of information if you are a thief and
approach her correctly. After you've done her a favor,
show her your stuff and bargain about it. You'll get a better deal.
She'll also tell you another place to use your skills.
How do I approach Dinarzad as a Thief?
- Let her know who you are you by showing the sign.
- Come back at the appointed time and she will give you a job
to do.
- After you have relieved the guards' of their valuables, tell
Dinarzad about the robbery and fence the goods here. You'll get
a better deal if you bargain a little.
- She'll also tell you another place to use your skills.
Where is the Eternal Order of Fighters?
- Only Fighters will get a chance to join the EOF.
- The Order will call on you once you have proven yourself as a
Fighter. You will need high fighting skills to become a member so
make sure you practice daily.
- Visit the Guild Hall on days 13, 14,
and 15 for more information. Ask Uhura about the note.
- After sunset on day 15, go to the east end of Askeri Darb
like the note says.
- Go only at night and make sure you are on time.
- Enter the open door.
How do I become a member?
- Go to the EOF guild at the appropriate time as dictated by
the note.
- You will have to undergo the initiation test.
- Stand fast when the voice commands and see what happens.
- You'll have to trust them, and prove yourself in battle.
- Break the shackles. If they put up a fight, FIGHT back.
- Don't type ESCAPE! Only wimps do!
- Get your weapons lying in the corner of the room. Use
your dodging skills to dodge the fighter.
- When you recover your sword and shield, face the fighter.
- It will be your skills against their best warrior.
- If you are having trouble, Restore to game prior to entering
the EOF and make sure you have full health and stamina.
- When the man is on the ground you can kill him or leave him
be. Your choice.
- Do the merciful thing if you are trying to become a paladin.
What privileges does an EOF member have?
- Nothing really.
- You get puzzle points, some strength, and a new sword.
Give me some hints on surviving in the desert.
- Read the desert survival section (page 14) in your manual.
- Talk to the gate guard about preparations. He can tell you
a lot about the desert and its inhabitants.
- The best way to explore the desert is on a saurus. Talk to the
Saurus Seller around day 2 and purchase
one from him.
- Carry plenty of water. Even though you can find water at the
oasis in the desert, it is a good idea to
fill up your waterskins at the
fountain. Visit the katta merchant in the Fighter's Plaza if you need additional
waterskins.
- It is also a wise idea to buy a compass from Alichica to keep your orientation and from
getting confused by the turned arounds.
- Healing, Vigor and Poison Cure pills from the Apothecary will help you survive monster
encounters.
- If you do get lost and you have your saurus, just say
"go home" and the saurus will take
you there.
- If you are lost without a saurus, remember the mountains are
both north and south of the city of Shapeir, but the city rests in
the northern mountains.
What all is there to do in the desert?
- There are a couple of interesting places and sights in the desert.
Talk to the guards (both day and night) outside the city gates
for some useful information.
- The desert is a good place to fight monsters and build up your skills,
but make sure you go prepared.
- Two of the key ingredients for a dispel potion can be found somewhere
in the desert.
- Look out for the local fauna, and you may spot some interesting
specimens.
- As for flora, if you come across any unusual ones,
talk to Auntie Azzia about it.
- If you are running out of water, head for the oasis.
You will meet someone interesting there who will give you a
puzzle to solve.
How do I obtain the griffin's feather?
- The Griffin nests along the cliff sides west of town. It is
four screens left from the Shapeir overlook.
- It is usually best to let sleeping Griffins lie.
- If you need a feather, do some careful searching.
Try looking around the area and you will find a feather under a rock.
If you're strong enough, you'll lift the rock. Otherwise, keep trying.
This is a good way to build up strength.
You may also be able to dig the sand around it a little to make it easier.
You will need to do a fancy rope trick to get a feather. If you
don't have it yet, buy a rope from Keapon
Laffin.
Levitate up to the griffin and get a feather. If you don't have that
spell, visit the Magic Shop.
What can I do here?
- The alcove is located along the mountains several screens to the east
of the City of Shapeir.
- The Plant Woman here will give you the Fruit of Compassion if you
help restore her humanity.
- Once the tree blooms, she will also provide some shade for resting.
How do I obtain the
Fruit of Compassion?
- Talk to the Enchantress about the Plant Woman,
and Aziza will tell you a sad story.
- She will also tell you how to help.
- Follow her instructions in order, pull some magic out of your sack,
say her name, and the Plant Woman will give you a gift.
- Give her some water and tell her about yourself; give her some magical
earth that you obtained upon defeating the
Earth Elemental and tell her about it. Finally give her a hug and
say her name (Julanar).
- Julanar may not yet be human, but your part in her story ends here.
- If you want to help her further, be sure to tell Salim about her when you meet him in Tarna.
How do I get here and what can I do?
- Talk to the guard outside the city gates
about the oasis. He will give you directions.
- It is located five screens to the south of Shapeir overlook and
three screens to the east.
- Quench your thirst here and refill your waterskins.
- You can also rest or sleep at the Oasis, but don't stay away from town
too long!
- Talk to the Dervish. He will be happy to talk to you, although he
doesn't seem to say much.
- Ask him about the desert, the oasis, Shapeir and beard.
- Didn't Keapon mention something about
needing the whirl of a dervish's beard? You can get some here.
- On day twelve, the Dervish will try to get you to visit him.
- Seems he has a puzzle for you to solve. Ask him for details about
what he says.
- You will find the puzzle five screens west of the city of Shapeir and
three screens down.
How do I solve the puzzle?
How do I solve the
puzzle?
- The Dervish at the oasis will give you a puzzle
to solve around day 12.
- He asks some important questions about the caged beast to
which you must learn the answers. Ask him the what, when, where, who,
why of the puzzle.
- The caged beast is located three screens south and five screens west
of the Shapeir overlook.
- Don't show too much pity for this monster, but remember nothing
survives long in this desert without supplies. Some water and food
will do nicely.
- The beast seems enchanted. Who knows about enchantments? Maybe the
Enchantress?
- Talk to Aziza about the caged beast and she
will be able to direct to someone who can give you something to dispel
the enchanment.
- Talk to the Apothecary about dispel
potions and get one made.
How do I obtain a dispel potion?
- You will need to add the final ingredient when you get back to
the beast.
- Distract it first before you try to get its hair.
- The beast looks hungry and thirsty, doesn't it? Give it something
to eat or drink, then get that hair.
Alternately, try
Calming it before reaching for the hair.
- Then give the dispel potion to the beast, and see what happens.
- Go back to Aziza and tell her about Al Scurva.
How do I get to Raseir?
- The only way to get to Raseir is by caravan, and the caravan leaves
Shapeir on day 17.
- Just get a good rest the night before at the Katta's
Tail Inn, and you'll be on your way in the morning.
What preparations do I need for the journey to Raseir?
- Have you been talking to Shema? She said her friend at the Palace
Plaza had something for you.
- Go to the Palace Plaza and get the sapphire pin.
- Did you speak to Aziza like she asked? She left a
note with Shameen.
- Shema will give you food rations and a change of clothing before you leave.
- Fill your waterskins at the fountain. It
doesn't hurt to keep an extra waterskin or two.
- There are no stores in Raseir. Stock up on pills from the
Apothecary.
- Still you may want to carry some money with you.
Make sure you have the magic rope and a supply of oil before you leave.
What do I do here?
- Don't bother leaving town, there's not much point.
- You can explore what little there is of Raseir from here, but
remember, your map doesn't work here.
- If you go into the streets, use the map that came with your game.
Even so, you'll have to use it backwards. East is West, North is South.
- There isn't much else to do so head to the inn when evening approaches.
- Don't get caught outside the inn at
night.
What should I do on my second day here?
- Explore what you can of Raseir.
- Head towards the fountain and
see what happens.
- If you head back towards the Blue
Parrot Inn afterwards, you will meet a mysterious stranger. Follow
her and then follow the instructions given there.
- After that, you can explore the town some more, but keep track of
the time of day. You'd better not be out after dark.
How do I obtain reservations at the Blue Parrot Inn?
- Signor Ferrari at the Blue Parrot Inn is a very important man, so it is
important to follow his "suggestions".
- This will be the place you spend the night, assuming you stay on
Ferrari's good side.
- He is a most influential man, and can introduce you to someone who knows
things about you.
- If you want to play it safe and earn his respect, order the coffee but
don't drink it.
- Ask him about Raseir, the Inn, the Emir, and rumors.
- Your room is past the wall behind the bar, but you can only use it at night.
- Don't worry about paying for your room there. You will discover that you have
already paid more than enough.
What should I do when introduced to Ugarte?
- When you have been introduced to Ugarte, it is best to pay him for information.
- If you are low on money you can bargain for the information.
- Ask him about service, water, someone, expected, lackeys, fountain,
and prophecy.
What else can I do at the inn?
- Be sure to head back to the inn when the sun sets or you will be
arrested for vagrancy in the streets of Raseir.
- The bartender is willing to sell you some drinks, but maybe you
should just refuse.
- Talk to Signor Ferrari when you get a chance.
Have you been paying attention to your Thief
Guild's Master? She told you to contact someone in Raseir. Make the
thief sign at the Blue Parrot Inn when talking to Senor Ferrari.
He will give you information about a little favor he wants you to do.
Follow his instructions. You will need all your thief skills and
equipment to handle this case. Return when you have the object he desires.
How do I steal the Black Bird?
If you
are in need of some oil, you may be able to swipe some here.
What do I do here?
- While returning from the fountain
plaza on the second day of your stay in Raseir, you will encounter
Mayzun, the slave woman.
- Follow her and she will lead you to a unmarked house on the streets
of Raseir.
- Here you will meet Zayishah, the current Emir's daughter.
- Give her what she wants, but first ask about Khaveen, marry,
father, disguise, Ad Avis, Power, control, Harem, and
magic .
- Give her the clothes and then the visa. (Don't worry, you don't
need your visa anymore).
- For giggles, wear your X-ray glasses (you can buy these from
Keapon Laffin in Shapeir) while she's changing.
- When she has gone, wait a while before leaving.
- Ask Mayzun about Raseir, Khaveen, Ad Avis and Zayishah
.
What do I do here?
- Be sure to visit the far southern end of the Fountain Plaza in
Raseir on the second day of your arrival.
- The natives are going out of their way to stage some entertainment
for you.
- It seems that Ferrari's friend is having trouble. You won't be
able to do anything. Just watch.
- After that, head back towards the inn.
When
Ferrari tells you about the job, head for the fountain plaza. Look for
the window he told you about.
Be sure
to sneak or you may attract the guards' attention.
If that
happens, use a quick dagger or a spell to silence him.
To get
up to the window, use your rope. A magic spell can also be used instead.
How do I steal the
Black Bird?
- If you identify yourself as a fellow thief to Signor Ferrari at
the Blue Parrot Inn, he will give you a
job to do when the time is right.
- Follow his instructions.
- Enter the house through the open window in the fountain
plaza at night.
- Save your game first.
- Once inside, you should be aware that someone is asleep in that
bed.
- Sneak quietly.
- Be patient. Take it slow or he'll wake up.
If you're about as stealthy as the average goon, you may be able
to use some magic creatively instead. Cast a Calm spell after every step
or otherwise to relax the situation.
- Don't make any more noise than you have to.
- If you do make noise, stop and wait a few moments before moving
again.
- If he calls out to the guard, simply hide.
- When you get to the cabinet, you should know what to do.
- You should pick the lock and oil the hinges.
- Get the bird then take your time getting out.
- If you get caught, restore and try again.
Who's that in the corner of the prison?
- Didn't Shema tell you she had a cousin in Raseir?
- Maybe you could prove your a friend of the Kattas.
- Show him what little you have left in your inventory.
- He'll get all happy when you show him the pin.
- Tell him about Shema and the other Kattas you met in Shapeir.
- Ask him about Raseir, Underground, capture and escaping the
dungeon.
How do I escape the dungeon?
- There are three things you must do to escape the dungeon.
- Open the gate to the cell, get your equipment, and find the
secret passage out.
Come on tough guy, you can't think of anything? The lock doesn't
look that strong. Maybe you could simply use your muscles and
push your way out.
If you fail at first, try, try again.
Use
your natural skills to open the cell door. Now what spell would you
cast?
A thief without his tools is pretty useless isn't he?
Did you read your Famous Adventurer's Correspondence School guide
book? Go read the thief section again and pay special attention to
the improvisation paragraph.
Do you have something that could pick locks? Check your inventory
or the hay near the Katta prisoner.
Use the pin or the rusty nail to pick the lock.
- Search the room and retrieve your equipment.
- Use your strength or a spell to open the secret passage. If you
need help, Sharaf will lend a hand if you befriend him first.
- Finally escape through the opened passageway.
What do I do after escaping the dungeon?
- Try to find your way back to the inn.
- You will run into Ad Avis.
- He is a wonderful person, or so he says.
- Just do what he wants, and you will get along fine with him, if you
survive. After all, you don't really have a choice!
How do I get inside?
- How can moonlight be somewhere it isn't?
- The moon's right there shinning in your face, can't you
reflect it somehow?
- In Raseir, the Emir's daughter Zayishah gave you something
that reflects. Check your inventory.
- Use the mirror on the moon.
I can't see anything!
- Is there something that you have that can light your path?
- The fire elemental is now at your command you know.
- Rub the magic item you made earlier to see your way around.
- Use your lamp.
How do I walk the wind?
- You will need to do something in the Water
Chamber next door to stop the wind in this room.
How can I make it over the river?
- Set the Arcade Difficulty Level in your Game menu to a level
appropriate to your own skill. Save your game.
- Look at the river; something seems to float by every once in a
while.
- Get close to the water and jump on the log. Try this near the
upper waterfall.
- Jump on at the right time, then jump off when you get near the
piece of land jutting out.
- Restore your game and try again if you make a mistake.
How do I stop the wind from pushing me back?
- Did you notice another place in the cave that had a strong wind current?
- How about that little hole on the left of the river?
- Try your character's abilities to close the hole.
Use your strength to apply the necessary force.
Magicians
should use a force bolt on the rocks above the hole.
The
thief needs to use his powers of observation and his thief tools
("rock picks"?).
- Then climb the rock staircase to the left of the waterfall and
cross back through the Air Chamber and into
the Fire Chamber.
I keep getting burned up!
- Try to avoid the fire spurting holes.
- Don't walk on the lava.
- Use water on yourself frequently, time the fire geysers carefully, and move
quickly but cautiously through this room.
Remember the
Fire challenge at W.I.T.? Casting a Calm spell
buys you some temporary relief.
- Use a healing pill if you run low on health from the fire burns.
How do I get past this room?
- It might be a good idea to take a healing pill or two after the
Fire Chamber.
Do you think you're tough and macho? Prove it! Go ahead and jump, you
won't be hurt that bad.
Use your trusty magic rope to get down off the ledge.
Use an
up and down sort of a spell.
- To open the door, you will need to say the name of the one who
bound Iblis.
- You have three tries to get it right.
- Did you listen well when Ad Avis said the prophecy?
- Read the Land of Shapeir Background and History Section in your
Famous Adventurer's Correspondence School Manual.
- Answer Suleiman and pass through the
door.
How can I get the treasure?
- The entire treasure room is a trap, so save as you come in if you
want to check out ways to die.
- Otherwise, ignore the obvious and pass through safely.
What should I do when I find the Statue of Iblis?
- As you head upward towards the glowing statue of Iblis, you will find
yourself trapped by Ad Avis.
- After he leaves, use your lamp to see the way around, and you will
find a very magical ring to help you escape.
- To find the ring, look around carefully. When you see
something shining, go near it and pick it up.
How do I handle the Genie of the Ring?
- Ask the Djinni about wishes, master, prophecy, ring, prowess, health,
and teleport.
- You can pretty much wish for any ability on your character sheet,
but don't waste all your wishes.
- Isn't there something you want even more than abilities?
- How about getting the heck out of this cave?
- Wish for teleport or exit.
- You've got three wishes so the exit wish should probably be last.
How can I enter the Palace?
- Those two guards don't look that strong. You should be able to take them.
- You have no option but to fight the guards.
- Then barge through the door and follow the Djinni.
- Do this quickly before more guards arrive.
How can I enter the Palace?
- Those guards look strong.
- Try not to fight them. What spell could you use so that they don't
see you enter the gates?
- Try blinding them with a Dazzle spell.
- If the Eunuch guarding the balcony intervenes, cast a couple of
well aimed spells his way before he can raise alarm.
- Now cast Open at the door and follow the Djinni.
How can I enter the Palace?
- Sneak in the shadows up to the palace wall.
- The woman you helped said she'd leave you a to follow when you got
to the castle gates.
- Do you see that scarf?
- You have to use your rope to climb up.
- Try to do it when the guard on the balcony is heading off to the
left. This gives your hero time to get up the rope and not be spotted.
- Once you're up the rope, head left into the room.
What do I do here?
- It's almost all automatic until it's time to leave the room which
you should do right away.
- Exit to your left.
How do I get past the guards?
- From there you should simply try not to get spotted as you sneak
around behind things.
- Timing is essential here.
- First hide behind the Fish fountain, and let the harem girl distract
the one Eunuch Guard.
- Keep an eye on the roving guard, and be ready to move before he can
see you.
- Hide behind the table next until the roving guard is out of the room,
then quickly sneak across to the doorway that leads to the balcony outside.
How do I reach the Ritual Chamber?
- Wouldn't you like to get rid of Ad Avis' main man?
- After the guard has left, jump from the balcony or climb down the
rope.
- Challenge Khaveen to a duel.
- Never give up, but you will need to be a very skilled fighter to
defeat Khaveen.
- When you drop your sword, you'd better pick it up.
- When he drops his sword, you can do one of two things. Pick it up
and give it to him so you can finish him in a fair fight, or kill him
on the spot.
- Take a healing pill after the battle if you can, and head for
the door to the Ritual Chamber.
- You're running out of time so ram the door. You will take some
damage from the door.
How do I reach the Ritual Chamber?
- There is no way you can beat Ad Avis' main man with your spells and dagger.
- Use the Calm spell upon Khaveen after the guard is gone.
- Then use a spell to get down from the balcony.
- You know Ad Avis is past that door so maybe you should prepare
for him in advance.
- Cast a Reversal spell so that he can't hurt you right away.
- Finally cast a spell to open the door to the
Ritual Chamber and then go in.
How do I stop the ritual and defeat Ad Avis?
- Don't waste any time here. Stop the ritual before attacking Ad Avis.
- Avoid combat with the living statue, simply
escape!
- Run to an unlight candle and kick it over.
- Then move to the left side of the screen.
- When Ad Avis get's mad and starts pelting you with fire, ignore
the fire and run towards him.
- Charge him or get in close enough and push Ad Avis and he'll fall
to his doom.
How do I stop the ritual and defeat Ad Avis?
- You have no time to waste here. End the ritual Ad Avis is performing
first.
- Cast a spell to stop the living statue (remember the
WIT Earth challenge?).
- Make sure you have a protection spell going, and cast a spell at
one of the unlit candles to keep Ad Avis from lighting it.
- Now you have made Ad Avis really mad.
- If you are protected, Ad Avis will not be able to cast a spell
directly at you, but unfortunately, he has the same protection.
- You will need to use an indirect spell against him before he
figures out how to get you.
- Move a bit to the left so you can get a good shot at him.
- Do you see that fire burning beside Ad Avis?
- Cast a spell to bounce off the wall and knock the brazier
into Ad Avis to defeat him.
- Use the Force Bolt spell to do this.
How do I stop the ritual and defeat Ad Avis?
- The doorway from the Guard Room leads to
a balcony overlooking the Ritual Chamber.
- From here, you can see Ad Avis performing the ritual.
- Once again you've got to use your rope and all your balancing
skills to get across. Thank goodness for the practice!
- It seems that there is a field preventing you from getting to
Ad Avis.
- Try throwing something (like maybe a dagger?) at an unlit candle
to stop the ritual.
- Carefully avoid the spells Ad Avis is casting at you.
- Get to the right pillar so that you have a direct line of sight
at Ad Avis. Alternate between ducking and moving over to the right
while he shoots fireballs at you.
- When you get behind the post, try hitting him your daggers.
- Keep trying until you've knocked him off the building.
Give me some general information on defeating the
Elementals.
