- Square will release Chocobo Collection for Playstation in Japan on December 22, the package will include Chocobo Dice, Chocobo Stallion and Chocobo Racing. Chocobo Dice is a board based game just like Monopoly, you use dice to decide the number of steps to move in the board, you can purchase the place you stand on. There are two types of magic stone called Attack Stone and Friend Stone, you can use Attack Stone to attack the opponents, and use Friend Stone to jump to safe places and avoid attacks. IGN recently caught up with Square EA Vice Chairman Yoshi Maruyama and Senior Software Engineer of Squaresoft Jay Fong. In an informative interview, IGN found out some very nice details on FF8 PC and other possible upcoming projects. The PC version will, much like the FF7 PC conversion, be pretty much a direct port. The high resolution of the PC will make things that are not as apparant on a TV much clearer, and there is talk of a new kind of high resolution movie to be used, although they're still experimenting. Unfortunately, they avoided even hinting at a possible release date, although it would not be surprising if they're aiming for a release by the end of the year.

Here is a short article from computer gaming magazine regarding the FF8 PC

- The team in charge of FF8 PC have made a better use of "Direct-3D". The combat scenes are "top-notch" even surpassing FF7 PC. The visual and facial close-ups are better than ever (with 3D acceleration, of course). - The 2D rendered background is not re-rendered in high-resolution to avoid loading times, but it is passing through a special filter to make it look as sharp and beautiful as the PSX version.

- The FMV sequences : The team has learned from their mistakes in FF7 PC (ugly AVI... remember those?). The movies are now "state of the art". You can have them in "high or low resolution", but the difference between those two options are barely noticable... To make it short, the movies are equal to the quality we found in the PSX version.

- For the sound, they're going for the software synthetiser route again... But with new enhancements : DLS (voice implements and digital sound). I guess a SB Live or Awe 64 will do the trick for the rest.
