Marxism ain't dead yet, dude :-) |
Marxism did not die with the Soviet Union, quite the contrary. The USSR, while once the greatest hope for humanity, became a Stalinist nightmare before Lenin was cold in the grave. It is actually easier to be a Marxist now because we are not forced, in principle, to defend a regime that was ultimately indefensible, except as a counter-weight to US imperialism. |

If you want to know about Socialism, don't bother to read something written by a NON-Socialist. You are not going to get an objective opinion from a writer whose economic system is threatened by Marx! Go straight to the source. MARX and ENGELS are the main source for scientific socialism. In the United States the works of both Eugene Debs and Daniel De Leon are wonderful adoptions for this country. Lenin is my personal hero, though much of what he wrote is applicable to Russia and its unique situation, not here. What is to be Done is possibly his best work. Mao is a solid source, and his "Little Red Book" was a radical's new testament in the 70's. I have three copies; one so dog-eared it is barely readable. The warriors Trotsky and Che are also excellent writers. Stalin is a joke. The best thing that can be said about him is that he kicked Hitler's ass. He made Leninism a rigid doctrine and it (the USSR) never recovered. |
