"Tag, You're It"

Well, I was watching my brother play a modem game with Carlos. The level is X Marks the Spot on Medium, and my brother is on the left. This meant that Carlos was on the right.

So I decided to help my brother out (he has never played the level before, and neither has Carlos). I tell him to go all ships until he can kill Carlos off of the seas.

So my brother pulls the lumber bug and starts building fast, building a mill on his 4th farm and a shipyard seconds after. Tim (my brother) is rolling in gold (4k) at this point, so he starts producing massive amounts of lumber. He gets a foundry and barracks going. In the meantime he makes 4 tankers.

Tim sends his first 2 tankers to scout Carlos' coast. Tim finds a shipyard without an oil patch. So Tim positions tankers on both of Carlos' nearby patches, stealing them. Tim's foundry is done, and a battleship starts the instant possible.

Carlos throws out a destroyer and tries to move one of Tim's tankers. Tim responds by making a platform on the spot. Keep in mind that Carlos has no foundry. Carlos starts blowing up the new platform, with no success. Carlos sends his destroyer to attack Tim's shipyard.

Carlos gets in 30 points of damage to Tim's shipyard when Tim tells Carlos there is a battleship coming. Carlos runs (wise move). Tim's battleship comes out just out of range and begins the chase. He corners Carlos by his shipyard. Tim starts another battleship.

Carlos fires at the battleship, then moves. Tim fires back, complete miss. Carlos does a 10 point hit on the battleship. He then does this 4 more times. Tim has scored a total of 7 points on Carlos' destroyer, while Carlos has done 35 to Tim's battleship. Tim's new battleship is now ready and sails for the battle.

Carlos sends a demeaning remark and has half killed Tim's battleship with one lucky destroyer and a very sweet connection. Then he stops and fires again.

TAG goes Tim's second battleship

Carlos' destroyer sinks and Tim quickly gets ship number 3 and blows up Carlos' shipyard.

Tim tries an invasion of Carlosville 3 minutes later with 4 level 3 footmen, but these are stopped by a sea wallin and 2 guard towers. Tim gets a new hall in the top island and makes 2 grunts and a ballista.

Meanwhile, Tim uses his sea power to blast Carlos. Carlos chases Tim off with a catapult. Tim retreats his battleships, never to return.

Tim's new invasion gets rid of the closer tower to the shore, but gets decimated in the process. A peon manages to kill Tim's ballista before it can retreat to a transport.

Tim sends a new invasion with 2 level 5 footmen and a peasant. The footmen murder 2 grunts and a peon sent to oppose them, then back out of tower range. The peasant builds a scout tower just out of Carlos' range. Carlos would like to get grunts out to kill it, but a battleship comes in close to back it up.

Carlos asks Tim "What are you doing?". Carlos is answered by Tim's new cannon tower blowing the heck out of Carlos' guard tower. That was just plain CHEESY. Carlos tries to break through his wall with grunts, but they are killed. Tim makes 2 more towers and sends in 5 footmen, but Carlos surrenders.

And the moral of the story is :

Never send Destroyers Against Other Ships
