Story
Kyo is trained in the fiery arts of Magatama. With his friends Benimaru and Goro Daiman, Kyo entered the KOF tournament in search of his father, who was rumoured to have been defeated by the tournament's sponsor, Rugal. Kyo is a bit of a time waster although he is a dedicated fighter. He has a girlfriend named Yuki. Many hundreds of years ago Kyo's ancestors, the Kusanagi and Iori's ancestors, the Yagami clan joined forces to seal away the evil forces of Orochi. However since the Iori made a deal with the Orochi and succumbed to their power, the Kusanagi and Yagami are now engaged in mortal war. Thus Kyo and Iori are now destined to one day fight each other to the death, although their match is constantly delayed by the revival of the Orochi.

History
Kyo Kusanagi first appeared in The King of Fighters '94, and has been in every KOF since. In 1996 he fought alongside Iori to defeat Goenitz of the Orochi, just as the two clans united 1800 years ago. He is more or less the champion of the King of Fighters games, like Ryu of Street Fighter. Kyo has apparently been watered down a bit for Capcom vs. SNK.
