Background:
Captured in a raid on his village while he was still a babe, he was raised as a gladiator. His only 'parents' were the slavewomen who tended the animals and the older gladiators who taught him all he knows. Somewhere along the way he learned a healthy respect for life and death. While not averse to taking a life he never revels in the experience, it is simply something that happens when you are a gladiator.
He says that he longs for freedom but it actually scares him. He has known no other life than that of a gladiator. Freedom would probably kill him as sure as a dagger to the heart.
