Saga System: Good Idea? Bad Idea?

by Armando Ladron de Guevara Alvarado

The Saga System is a new Game System created by TSR Inc., the producers of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons game line. The difference of this system with the Core Rules we've all grown up with is that instead of relying on dice to see what happens it depends on a deck of cards called "The Deck of Faith".

I played it and saw at the very begining whats new about it. Its that you can be anything you want at the same time. There is no limit in what class of character you want to be. You can be a Warrior and a Wizard at the same time without any problems while your magic points don't run low.

It seems that the play also depends more on Roleplaying than actions like the Core Rules. We played for about 4 hours without any action rounds. All we did was RPGing and I must say I enjoyed it.

But in my personal opinion the Saga System will never reach a lot of popularity. I have enjoyed the original Core Rules since I started and learning another set of rules of play will take me a long time wich I personally don't have. Furthermore some people (not like me) get bored of only RPGing and like the old fashion Dice Game more.
