In 1981, Mike Diamond and Adam Yuanch decided to form a band. They were a hardcore punk band. They played at all the major clubs. They then decided to record a EP called 'Poly Wog Stew.' But this music was totally different from the music which would later make them famous. After this the band split up.

2 years later they rejoined with Adam Horovitz on guitar. They recorded the follow up to the EP called 'Cookie Puss.' The song was inspired by soft ice cream. The rap community liked the song even though it was meant to be a hip-hop joke. The Beastie Boys realised that they should become a rap band. That is why people often call 'Cookie Puss' as the 'Beastie Revolution.'

A record company opeed called Def Jam records in 1984. The Beastie Boys were one of the first bands to sign up. Straight Away the Beastie Boys went and recorded 'Rock Hard.'

When Madonna was about to go on her 'Like a virgin' tour, she picked the Beastie Boys to open her show. The Madonna fans hated the Beastie Boys' music, however the Beastie Boys kept on playing. After a few shows the Beastie Boys began to thrive on the abuse.

In the summer of 1985, the Beastie Boys toured with Run DMC and LL Cool J. When the tour ended they decided to record an album. 'Licensed to ill' was released in 1987. One American magazine read "Three jerks make a masterpiece." The song spent seven weeks at the top of the pop chart and went to number two on the black chart. It was the fastest selling record in CBS history.

Now that the Beastie Boys were popular, they decided to go on their first headlining tour of the US. Thgis tour was an absolute success. Next they toured again with Run DMC. But this time when they reached England, they were accused of being a threat to the security fiber of England. Adam Horovitz was also arrested for allegedly starting a riot.

The band became tired after touring for so long so they split up. The recording company, Def Jam records, refused to pay them their royalties, so they took out a legal suit which still continues to this day.

Later the Beastie Boys joined back together and released an album called 'Paul's Boutique' with the help of the Dust Brothers. Recently they have released an album called 'Hello Nasty' featuring the singles 'Body Movin'' and 'Intergalactic'
