Human Classes: Male

The dudes of Ogre Battle 64!

Class: Fighter
Prefered Alignment: Any
Attacks:
Front Row: 2 X Slash
Middle Row: 1 X Slash
Back Row: 1 X Slash
Stats: Must be evolved from a solider.

If your unit leader is male, and you fight enough battles, you'll get a fighter.
Not as bad as the soldier, but you won't want these at all later on in the
game. They evolve into other human classes.

Class: Knight
Prefered Aligment: Neutral - High
Attacks:
Front Row: 2 X Slash
Middle Row: 1 X Slash
Back Row: 1 X Slash
Stats: Requires a good STR and VIT.

Knights are pretty much just strong fighters, which is not a bad thing
whatsoever. They also turn into Paladins, which totally kick butt.
These tend to have a good defense, strong attacking power, and nice
magic resistance. Not shabby at all! Get lots o' deeze. ^^

Class: Berserker
Prefered Alignment: Neutral - Low
Attacks:
Front Row: 2 X Strike
Middle Row: 1 X Strike
Back Row: 1 X Strike
Stats: Requires a good STR and VIT.

Pretty much just evil Knights, except they use hammers. They tend to be
slightly weaker overall, but it's no real problem. They look cool when they
attack, too! They spin completely around! Ee! Neat.

Class: Doll Master
Prefered Alignment: Neutral
Attacks:
Front Row: 2 X Pull Strings
Middle Row: 2 X Pull Strings
Back Row: 1 X Pull Strings
Stats: Requires a good INT, MEN, and DEX.

I like these guys! Two attacks in the middle row, you can put, like, three
Knights in the Front row, two Doll Masters in the Middle row, and watch
the chaos. Awesome. Oh, and if you stick a Doll Master in a unit with a Golem,
the Golem will be stronger. You know, because the Doll Master is a master
of enchanting non-living things?

Class: Phalanx
Prefered Alignment: Neutral
Attacks:
Front Row: 2 X Pierce
Middle Row: 1 X Pierce
Back Row: 1 X Pierce
Stats: Requires a good STR and VIT.

These are absolutely phenominal in the beginning of the game, since they block
physical attacks like a concrete wall, but later on, they start losing a bit
of use, because weapons tend to be more magical. Still, get a few. He's a little
weak as a result of lugging around all that armor, but he's still pretty good
for all the defense you get.

Class: Fencer
Prefered Alignment: Neutral - High
Attacks:
Front Row: 2 X Slash
Middle Row: 1 X Slash
Back Row: 1 X Slash
Stats: Requires a good STR and DEX.

These are okay, but compared to knights, are practically useless. They do cost
a *lot* less, so get a couple. I've had some real problems with their defense,
however - they tend to take a *lot* of damage from physical attacks.

Class: Beast Tamer
Prefered Alignment: Neutral - Low
Attacks:
Front Row: 2 X Lash
Middle Row: 1 X Lash
Back Row: 1 X Lash
Stats: Requires a good STF and VIT.

They're very, very, very cheap, because they need only two inexpensive items
to equip. However, they're not very powerful, and their defense is pretty
awful. So what if so special about these whip-snappers? Group 'em with a
beast, like a Wyvern, Wyrm, or my personal favorite, Hellhound, and watch the
fun come out. A Beast Tamer will increase a beast's power (*not* a Dragon's or
a Golem's).

Class: Ninja
Prefered Alignment: Neutral - Low
Attacks:
Front Row: 2 X Rend
Middle Row: 1 X Lash
Back Row: 1 X Lash
Stats: Requires a good AGI and DEX.

Ewww! These guys royally bite. They're weak, have low HP, and, despite what you
may guess, don't have very good evading powers. They also can't lead a unit,
which can be a real hinderance. I still suggest having one, *maybe* two,
however, because a Ninja Master is a slightly-better-than-decent character.

Class: Wizard
Prefered Alignment: Neutral - Low
Attacks:
Front Row: 1 X Magic
Middle Row: 1 X Magic
Back Row: 2 X Magic
Stats: Requires a good INT and MEN.

These guys rule!! Eee! Eee! Despite having a poor defense power, this guy rules.
Unlike other characters, he will target an enemy in the *backmost* row near him,
unlike the others, who will attack the frontmost row. The spell will change
type, depending upon the wizard's element thingy. If you group two or more
wizards (or sorceresses) in the back row, and their magic spells they're casting
match (fire and water don't match, wind and earth don't match), they may combine
to form powerful magic. For example, if the morale is high enough, and they're
casting it on the same target, a wizard casting an earth spell and a wizard
casting a fire spell may combine it into Lava Flow, which hits the enemy for a
ton of damage, and hits adjacent characters a bit, and may also paralyze. Cool.

Class: Paladin
Leveled up from: Knight
Prefered Alignment: High
Attacks:
Front Row: 3 X Slash
Middle Row: 2 X Slash
Back Row: 2 X Slash -or- 2 X Magic
Stats: Requires a good STR, VIT, and DEX.

You are not worthy. You are not worthy. Bow down and worship them, they are
extremely awesome characters. Depending upon what sword they equip, they may
also cast magic in the back row - not usually as useful as the Slash attack,
but sometimes the Blessed Sword's Healing spell may come in handy. This might
be your first human character to have more than two attacks - cherish him.

Class: Black Knight
Leveled up from: Berserker
Prefered Alignment: Low
Attacks:
Front Row: 2 X Cleave
Middle Row: 2 X Cleave
Back Row: 2 X Cleave -or- 2 X Magic
Stats: Requires a good STR and VIT.

Not bad! Not bad at all! You need a Valiant Mantle, and these are a little rare,
but. They hit pretty well in the front *or* middle rows, which is a good thing.
Unfortunately, the Magic attack is usually very weak, and should be avoided.
A Valiant Mantle can be found in the Sable Lowlands, but I can usually get a
fair amount more by beating up bad guys.

Class: Enchanter
Leveled up from: Doll Master
Prefered Alignment: Neutral
Attacks:
Front Row: 3 X Pull Strings
Middle Row: 2 X Pull Strings
Back Row: 2 X Pull Strings
Stats: Requires a good INT, MEX, and DEX.

Yeah! Rule to the third power! I like having some of these, even in units
without Golems. They make Golems, Stone Golems, and probably Baldr Golems
even *more* powerful, and also get an extra attack in the front and back rows.
Since I usually group one with two Golems, the extra attack in the back row is
a warm welcome.

Class: Cataphract
Leveled up from: Pharynx
Prefered Alignment: Neutral
Attacks:
Front Row: 2 X Pierce
Middle Row: 2 X Piece
Back Row: 2 X Pierce
Stats: Requires a good STR and VIT.

Make that a *great* VIT. You need a very high vitality to get these, and they're
great once you first get them. Near the end of the game, they're not very
special, because most of the weapons are magic based. Grumble, groan. I would've
thought a guy bogged down with armor like he is wouldn't get two attacks
in the back row? Weird.

Class: Sword Master
Leveled up from: Fencer
Prefered Alignment: Neutral - High
Attacks:
Front Row: 3 X Slash
Middle Row: 2 X Slash
Back Row: 2 X Sonic Boom
Stats: Requirs a good STR and DEX.

Good for the front row and nothing else. The two attacks in the middle row
aren't bad, of course, but three in the front is, as logic would hint, better.
Sonic Boom pretty much stinks - it hits the opponent for light damage, and then
hits the Sword Master about a third of the damage dealt, though it depends on
whether you're hitting, say, a Sorceress or a Cataphract. Really not a good
attack at all. Still, 3 Slashes in the front is good, despite a low defense.

Class: Beast Master
Leveled up from: Beast Tamer
Prefered Alignment: Low
Attacks:
Front Row: 2 X Lash
Middle Row: 2 X Lash
Back Row: 2 X Lash
Stats: Requires a good STR and VIT.

Not bad. They are mostly used for leveling up the powers of monsters, but, in
a pinch, will do for a good better-than-nothing chaotic fighter. Very cheap,
too, and have easy to meet stats. Plus, two attacks in the middle and back rows.

Class: Ninja Master
Leveled up from: Ninja
Prefered Alignment: Low
Attacks:
Front Row: 3 X Rend
Middle Row: 2 X Rend
Back Row: 2 X Ninja Art
Stats: Requires a good INT, AGI, and DEX.

Not bad at all! You probably won't have Beast Masters in every chaotic unit,
and you can only have so many Black Knights, so what can do, in a pinch, for a
row front chaotic guy? Ninja Master, baybee. 3 attacks in the front is always
good. Ninja Art is like an Archmage or Siren's Magic attack (hits a 2 X 2
square, or hits one character and then half damage to all adjacent), but a
lot weaker. However, it can change element, making this a very good choice for
using combo magic attacks.

Class: Archmage
Leveled up from: Wizard
Prefered Alignment: Low
Attacks:
Front Row: Magic Plus X 1
Middle Row: Magic Plus X 1
Back Row: Magic Plus X 2
Stats: Requires a good INT and MEN.

Love at first sight. I absolutely love these guys! Magic Plus hits like Ninja
Art - a 2 X 2 square, or hits one character, then all adjacent characters for
half damage. Plus, it does a lot of damage. These guys absolutely are zee butt
kickers of zee butt kickers.

Class: Dragoon
Leveled up from: Fighter
Prefered Alignment: Any
Attacks:
Front Row: Slash X 3
Middle Row: Slash X 2
Back Row: Slash X 2
Stats: Requires a good STR, VIT, and DEX.

Hard to get, but reasonably powerful. The stat requirements are very easy to
meet, and you should have no problem doing so. The armor and weapon, however,
is where you should have trouble. In the town of Idorf, in Mylesia, your
Dragoon armor quest starts.

In Gunther Piedmont, in the town of Burgunny, wait until nighttime, and you'll
see a drunk guy. Come back in the day, and a woman will tell you to go to Senal
in the Volmus mines. Do so. Talk to her, then head back to Burgunny, and
between the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM, you can get the Dragon Helm for 250 goth.

Kynora, Mount Ithaca, a guy will tell you about Condrite, a mineral from the
sky. On the 6th of each month, in the daytime, you can buy this at
Melphy in the Dardunelles region. Buy the Condrite, and head back to Kynora.
The guy will forge you Dragon Armor for free.

The Sword of Tiamat is the hardest part of the quest. Head back to Idorf in
Mylesia after Chapter 3, and the man will send you to Fair Heights. Go to
Elaine, and the barkeeper will give you the Dragon Scale. In Celesis, Pinneg,
your unit leader will engage in battle with the dragon Grozz Nuy. He only
gets one attack per turn, and he's not that hard. Go in with someone who gets
three attacks, and you should do fine.

Class: Centurion
Leveled up from: Fighter
Prefered Alignment: Any
Attacks:
Front Row: 2 X Slash
Middle Row: 2 X Slash
Back Row: 1 X Slash
Stats: Requires a good VIT, INT, MEN, and DEX. You must have promoted about
eight soldiers to Fighters or Amazons.

Not bad, but not many leaders promote so many soldiers. This guy looks
extremely feminine, and I can never tell the difference between male and
female centurions. Ugh.

Stuff about Liches will be conquered in the 'Undead' section.

Back to the Ogre Battle section!

No, no, it's Rainy Circle time.
