1834 - Designed by Tom Lehmann. In playtest, no immediate plans to publish. 1834 is a game of railroading in New England and Montreal (1834-1914). Fairly short (only 5 game phases), this game revisits the entire 18xx system. Unusual features include gradual train phase-outs, mergers, different capitalization rules, company stock repurchases, price stabilization, linking share price movement to dividend performance, ferries, and run bonuses for connecting certain cities. 14 companies are provided; 9 of them located historically on the map. The other 5 may be started anywhere -- representing either specialized short lines that operated briefly or powerful outside companies (such as J.P. Morgan's eventual New York, New Haven and Hartford) that eventually gobbled up several pre-existing companies to form their track.
