1839 is set in The Netherlands. A small scale 18xx title, it features only cities and terrain (no small stops), and has unique private company rules. Privates are bought after the initial stock round, never sold to corporations, and have unique powers which may be assigned to a corporation controlled by the owning player each operating round. Most of these powers are very nice indeed, up to and including an extra token for use each turn.

1839 was originally published in a very limited quantity (30 copies) as a proposal for professional publication. 15 copies were given to the people who funded the design and the designers, and 15 copies were given to companies in the hopes that they would be interested in releasing the game. Mayfair has expressed an interest in the title, but has asked for some changes to the game. The biggest change will be to the stock market, making it more dynamic, but other changes will take place as well. Rob van Wijngaarden has details of what is changing on his web page, as well as a view of the new share price index.

More information will be added when it is available.
