Released in 1989 in America, the Sega Genesis was Sega's rebirth in the console industry. This console was named Mega Drive in Japan and Europe. This was the first true 16 bit system ever released. At the time of launch there were very good games like Ghouls and Ghosts, Super Hang On, Revenge of Shinobi. The Genesis had the game Altered Beast packed with the system and one controller. The Genesis was the leader of the 16 bit systems for a long time, and with the arrival of the SNES, the 16 bit war between SEGA and Nintendo gave us very good games, like Sonic the Hedgehog, which became an instant hit, increased the Genesis' popularity and became Sega's mascot. The strengh of the Genesis relies on its speed, as it is a lot faster than the SNES, so the Genesis sports games are better than those of the SNES. During the Genesis lifetime, 27 million consoles were sold in the world, only 3 million less than the SNES. The Genesis probably has been the most succesful of all the Sega consoles.

The Genesis had many add-ons, which were the Power Base Converter, which allows you to play Sega Master System games; the Sega CD, which was probably the most popular one, but the lack of color availability made it suffer; the Sega 32X, which allows you to play 32 bit games (No, it's not compatible with Saturn). Some games combined the Sega CD and the 32X.

This is the Sega CD, which was released in November 1992 in America.
