Return
To Fondor by WedgeantR2
"All
squad leaders report in," said GoldLeader from the "UPA
Virtue." "Gold Leader standing by." "Vortex
leader standing by." "Lock S-foils in attack position
and begin your attack," said GoldLeader. The two squadrons
accelerated into the atmosphere of Barkhesh and headed toward the
target, an Imperial outpost in one of Barkhesh's canyons. Both
squadrons fired their warheads at it once they were in range. The
outpost exploded nicely. The local TIE fighter squadron had not
been able to get off the ground in time. GoldLeader said,
"Good job. Return to the fleet. Drewhead has just contacted
me, and it looks like we're needed back at base." At the UPA
base, the three Supreme Council members stood at the front of the
room in front of all the UPA pilots. WedgeantR2 said, "We
have received info saying that due to our last raid on the
shipyards of Fondor, the Imperials are sending some more ships to
Fondor to protect the shipyards. The local fleet are in their
planning, and Fondor will be left undefended for a short period
of time while the reinforcements are coming in. There should be a
window of about one hour during which Fondor is left undefended
while the fleets are moving. This is our big chance to really
hurt the Imperials. What we plan to do is to hyper into the
Fondor system from two different directions so we catch the
remaining ships off guard. Tiger Wing and the "UPA One"
will enter the system and attack the shipyards. While the enemy
ships move to intercept them, Eagle and Falcon Wing will enter
the system on the other side and move in and destroy the
undefended shipyards. The shipyards are huge, and there is no way
we will be able to destroy them all before the reinforcements
arrive. Once the main fleet comes, we leave.". "We will
set off for Fondor in six hours," added Drewhead.
"Dismissed." Eight hours later, a group of about 20
heavy lifters entered the space around Fondor. They were there to
help with the repairs on the shipyards. As they moved toward the
shipyards, three of them suddenly exploded. Turbolaser fire
filled the space around them. The Tiger Wing fleet and the
"UPA One" fired all their guns at the heavy lifters.
Within seconds, all of them were destroyed. Battle alarms sounded
all over the shipyards. The ships who were left at Fondor for
defense before the reinforcements arrived moved to stop the UPA
ships. They consisted of an ISD, a Nebulon-B frigate, and two
Carrack-class cruisers. Three squads of TIEs were launched.
Wraith, Defiant, and Blue squadrons were launched to intercept
the TIEs. The UPA pilots easily dismantled the TIE squadrons,
with no losses. The "UPA One" and "UPA Raven"
attacked the ISD, while the "UPA Stonewall" worked on
the frigate. Suddenly, the Eagle and Falcon Wing fleets came out
of hyperspace on the other side of the shipyards and immediately
started opening up on all shipyards in range. Cargo ferries and
heavy lifters were being destroyed rapidly, and the shipyards
were taking a lot of punishment. The rest of the UPA squadrons
launched, and they fired torpedoes at the shipyards. On the other
side of the battle, the two enemy Carrack-class cruisers were
racing back to try to stop the new arrivals, but one of them was
cut down by turbolaser fire and torpedoes. The other made it to
the other side of the shipyards, but the "UPA Paradigm"
took it out easily. Meanwhile, the rest of the enemy fleet had
been taken are of, and now, the entire UPA fleet was free to do
whatever damage they could. Ships under construction were blown
apart, and the shipyards themselves were reduced to scrap.
Suddenly, six ISDs came out of hyperspace. "OK we've done
enough," said GoldLeader, "Let's get out of here."
Then, and Interdictor-class cruiser entered the system and began
powering up its gravity well projectors. "All squadrons,
launch remaining warheads at that interdictor," said
Drewhead, "It's our only chance." Very few warheads
were left, and the interdictor's shields withstood the
punsihment. The ISDs were getting closer, and they had launched
nine TIE squadrons. All UPA starfighters were told to go and
fight off the TIEs, while the fastest ships of the UPA fleet
banded together. The "UPA Paradigm" "UPA
Vengeance" and "UPA Death Wind" all raced toward
the interdictor. The "UPA Paradigm" got there first and
fired all its cannons. The interdictor fired back, but when the
other two ships got there, it was overpowered and destroyed. All
fighters were recalled, but just as the UPA fleet was about to
enter hyperspace, an ISD came out of hyperspace right in front of
them. All UPA ships started firing, and destroyed the ISD, but
now, the six ISDs were in firing range and started attacking the
"UPA One." WedgeantR2 said, "Let's get out of
here, NOW!" The whole fleet jumped into hyperspace, leaving
behind the remains of the shipyards of Fondor. Back at the base,
repairs were conducted on the "UPA One." The UPA pilots
held a celebration at their base. They had come out on top again.
