Dragon

The most common creatures seen on the Exodite Worlds are the Dragons, their favoured mount. They are slightly larger than a horse, reptilian in nature, and are found on nearly every Exodite World. Many Exodite children quite literally learn to ride a Dragon before they even learn to walk. Only the most skilled riders will come to battle on the backs of their dragons as it takes a strong will to control a Dragon once it has become excited by the smell of blood and the din of war.

Special Rules

Cavalry: Characters on Dragons are a special type of Cavalry, as described on page 93 of the Warhammer 40,000 Rulebook, with the exceptions listed below.

Saddle Born: Dragon Knight Nobles are quite accustomed to shooting from atop their Dragons. They follow the Saddle Born rule as presented on the Rules and Reference Page.

Reailient: Dragons are very tough creatures, and very hard to kill. To represent the extra protection this affords their riders, they add a bonus of +1 to the Toughness and +2 to the Armour Save of the model riding them. These bonuses are already taken into account in the profiles given above.

Empathic Bond: The bond between a Lord and his Dragon is very strong, strengthened more so by the Psychic nature of the Eldar. Any failed difficult terrain test may be re-rolled, but the result of the second roll must be accepted. (Note that due to the Jungle Warriors rule below, woods and jungle are not considered difficult terrain.)

Jungle Warriors: Dragons follow the rules for Jungle Warriors as presented earlier in this Codex. See the Rules and Reference Page for details on the special rules used by Jungle Warriors.

Great Dragon

Great Dragons are large, predatory creatures that walk on two legs and stand 5 to 6 meters in height. Though less intelligent than some of the smaller varieties of Dragons, the Great Dragon is one of the most fierce and powerful Dragons on the Exodite Worlds

Special Rules

Large Monster: The Great Dragon is a Large Monster and follows the rules presented earlier in this Codex. See the Rules and Reference Page for details of how Large Monsters behave.

Terrifying: Great Dragons are large and powerful predators, and the very sight of them is enough to strike fear into the hearts of the enemies of the Exodites. Any unit that wishes to charge a Great Dragon must first pass a Morale check. If the Check is failed, the unit will not fall back, but they refuse to charge and may not move during this assault phase.

Great Winged Dragon

Though not quite as fierce and powerful as the Great Dragon, the Great Winged Dragon is much more intelligent, as well as swifter and more agile. Exodite Lords who choose to ride to battle atop a Great Winged Dragon are able to flit about the battlefield at will, adding their weight wherever it is needed. Even more powerful are the Great Drakes, the most intelligent of all Dragons, and able to breathe gouts of fire.

Great Drake: A Great Winged Dragon may be upgraded to a Great Drake for +10 pts. This grants the ability to Breath Fire. This is treated as an attack from a flamer, using all of the normal rules. However, the rider must direct the beast to use its fiery attack and so may not fire any of his own weapons during the shooting phase if the Great Drake is breathing fire.

Special Rules

May Fly: Great Winged Dragons have wings and may fly. They may move up to 12" in the movement phase, ignoring any intervening terrain, if they choose to fly. See the rules for Large Monsters for more information.

Large Monster: The Great Winged Dragon is a Large Monster and follows the rules presented earlier in this Codex. See the Rules and Reference Page for details of how Large Monsters behave.
