New Rules for Druids

If a wizard can have all those nifty little cantrips, what about Priests? Druids, who live out in the wilderness need certain zero-level spells to aid in his survival. Here are just a few that I allow in my campaigns:

Certain restrictions apply to all the following spells:

1. Range is self only, which means they only effect the caster, and cannot be cast on others.
2. Saving throws do not apply
3. They are not reversable

Invisibility to Animals
Sphere: Animal
Components: V
Duration: One turn
Casting Time: 1\2 round

This is a limited version of the first level spell of the same name and functions like that spell, excpet for the above listed differences.

Nutrify Soil
Sphere: Elemental, Earth
Components: V, S
Duration: Permanent
Casting Time: 1\2 round
Area of Effect: One cup of soil

In preparing this spell, the priest must first scrape up a small pile of sand, dirt, mud, pebbles, etc. While doing this, the priest must make certain that no living thing is inside the pile, such as worms, bugs, live roots, etc. or else the spell will fail (germs and other microscopic things don't count). The spell is then cast on this small mound transforming it into a safe, nutrious, eatable, but bland tasting meal. The meal with have the consistancy of the dirt used, mud will be like pudding, sand will be like crushed granola and so forth. Water can be added to counter dryness. This meal may be mixed with grain, horse meal or other foods in order to stretch food supplies.

Wiskers
Sphere: Animal
Components: V, S
Duration: Instant
Casting Time: 1\2 round
Area of Effect: 50 ft raduis

This spell is used in dark spaces. The caster can "feel" outward from his body and sense the location of walls, ceilings, cliffs and any other topographical changes or obstacles. He is able to detect all objects within the area of effect such as trees, blouders, columns, stairs, etc. He will know the general location and size of objects that are both moving and remaining still. He can further detect the general speed of moving objects. However, he will not necessarily know if an object is alive.

Example: DM's response after priest casts spell - "You can tell there is a flight of stairs about 20 feet to your left, which descend. You can also tell there is a motionless object about 6 ft long, 4 ft tall and 3 ft wide (a table) on the ground about 10 feet ahead."

Detect Natural Poison
Spheres: Plant, Animal, Divination
Components: V
Duration: Instant
Casting Time: 1\2 round
Area of Effect: One creature or object

This spell allows the priest to determine if a plant or animal is poisonous by site and/or smell only, no touch or tasting requried. Also, he can detect if an object has been laced with natural poisons, such as venom coated blades or poisonous drinks. Magical poisons and curses are not detectable by this spell.

Purify Water
Sphere: Elemental, Water
Components: V, S
Duration: Permanent
Casting Time: 1\2 round
Area of Effect: 16 oz of water

This spell changes any water, including salt water, into safe, clean, drinking water. No other liquid can be effected, only some type of water.
