Overpower Strategy
JC Special Cards

JC -- "Acts as a level 5 [Power Type] attack. [Character] May play one additional special card."

Characters who have this special: Captain America, Mister Miracle, Banshee, Aquaman, Red Skull, Henry Pym*, Juggernaut, Kingpin, Captain Marvel**, Darkseid, & Green Arrow.

* Different text; Acts as a level 1 Multipower attack.....
** Different text; Acts as a level 3 Multipower attack.....

Rules of Play:

  • The first part of the attack may be blocked, avoided or negated as usual. If avoided or blocked, the additionl attack is still allowed, however, if it is negated, the attack is not allowed.
  • The second part of the special is optional, however, if the additional attack is made, the special card must be usuable by the character playing this card.

This is one of the newer specials to the game, as it was introduced in JLA, and has since expanded to nearly every character in Monumental.

This card really depends on the character using it. For Captain America, Aquaman, Mr. Miracle, Red Skull and Juggernaut it allows a moderate attack in an off colour. Five's are moderate attacks, and when played well, can hit.
For Henry Pym and Captain Marvel, although it allows a Multipower attack, the attack is too low to be of use.
For the other characters, it is in their primary skill, so it's use is limited.

So to decide is the card is useful, just check if it is higher than the power level in that skill on your character's power grid. If it is, I'd use it.

As for this follow-up attack, it is very limited in that it must be a special card played by the character using the JC. Most people only put in 3-4 specials for each front line character in thier deck so the chances of drawing another in the same hand as this card are limited (although, placing helps). Also, a good number of specials are defensive, so that weakens its use as well.

It is still possible to draw the card necessary for the additional attack, and if it comes up, I would play it under the condition that it is an attack only. If it is anything else, you give the opponent the card advantage.

Many people do not like to use follow up attacks because they then give your opponent more cards in his/her hand. That is not true. If you play an attack, and your opponent defends, you remain equal. If he/she doesn't defend, well, it's done it's job.

I like this card, and use it whenever I use the above-mentioned characters.
