Why have a campaign

Why have a campaign?

There are many reasons to have a campaign - just a few will be listed here - I hope to encourage other gamers and visitors to this site to get involved in a campaign, either a simple one ranging over a couple of games or a really involved one which could spread over many weeks or even months - the recent one that I am in has been on for nearly two years and has a large plot that s expanding all the time. A campaign adds a new element to a game - it adds a story to the war-gaming as well as a purpose to fight, and can involve allies etc. Another reason to have a campaign is that it creates a ring of gamers which meet on a regular basis all trying to meet a campaign goal.

Either in Warhammer or 40k (or in whatever game you are playing) there are many things which could inspire you to have a campaign - after all there are pages of background material for you to dig around to find something to fight a campaign over and inspiration for the campaign can come from many places (white dwarf for example has many ideas) and also for the beginner to a campaign the 'campaign packs' are a good starting point.

Another reason to have a campaign is that it open up a whole new alley way to fighting your battles in different ways using different rules etc. and your battles could lead up to a final showdown featuring all the armies that took part in the campaign (multi-player battles are just one aspect of campaigning).

And so I will leave you with the above to think about - have a go campaigns are great fun and will change your view of war-gaming forever!(if you have any questions or comments please mail me - Im sure I will be able to help or inspire you with any aspects of campaigning (or anything Gw related for that matter) until next time keep those 6's rolling!
