Single Player Strategies
Myth is a strategy, a real real time strategy. It is two steps forward in RTS games. First :
3D Graphics, Second: a mass attack is a sure death. That's why:
a) you have to use the terrain
b) you have to use formations
Using the terrain.
An appropriate placement of your units in the battlefield can have a great influence on the
battle:
a) place your archers and dwarves on hills - this will highly change their range.
b) secure narrow places between two hills, bridges, etc. Use nr 1 formation to do it.
c) Hide your wights under water! Yes, just do it and detonate them while the enemy will cross
the river.
Your primary targets.
There are some units which should be destroyed in the first priority:
1) Trow - order all your long range units to attack before it's too late. Then take Berserkers to kill it.
2) Fetch - their lightning has a really devastating power.
3) Wight - shoot them before they blow you up.
Watch your back.
So far in RTS the back attack wasn't very useful. Now it's a great weapon. Never let your
enemy attack from behind, cause they will chop off your army. The only way to stop it are
formations.
Don't be fooled by dwarves appearance.
Dwarves have power. Real power. They can kick ass when well used. Here are some ways
how to do it.
Dwarf in a Vanguard.
A Vanguard is one of the most useful formations and also the most difficult one. The best
thing with this formation is that you can put a dwarf into a Vanguard and watch it blow up
enemies. Very difficult, but wonderful.
How to kill a dwarf?
It's simple. Just use your archers or ghols.
How to get a crowd?
If you want your Molotov Cocktails work better you need to get a crowd of enemy forces.
But how to do it? Just sacrifice a few thralls and send them for sure death. Take a dwarf after
them. When they will engage enemies blow them up with your dwarves. To get a better effect
you should also sacrifice a dwarf with your thralls. BOOM!!!
Defend your archers!
Archers in a hand to hand combat are completely useless. They get killed by any unit. That's
why you should never leave them without defence.
Wights : walking bombs?
Yes. They are really devastating units. As they die, they blow up with an enormous power.
You have to use them and defend against them wisely.
How to attack with a wight?
When attacking with this creature you have to check if:
1) your wight won't be taken down by enemy long range units.
2) the enemy is standing still (wights are the slowest units in the game)
3) there is possibility to attack from the rares.
4) your wight is kept far away from your army.
What to do with an enemy wight?
Kill it of course! But how? You should:
1) take it down with archers
2) if the first option is no available - send a weak kamikaze unit to kill it.
Blow an army!
Sometimes your enemy will keep a wight close to his main force. Do not hesitate to
sacrifice archers. Blow wights at any cost!
Formations, are they really necessary.
I say YES. They have many advantages and disadvantages (see formations section), but they
show you're a good player. Here are the best formation for some units:
1) warriors - tight formations like short line
2) archers - staggered line
3) dwarves - loose line
4) a big army - box
5) defence or march - short line.
A retreat, is it a real failure?
No! Sometimes retreating is a good and the only way to win a battle. If your "friends" want
to fight each other, don't involve. Let them kill each other and then strike the leftovers. Never
stay between two enemy armies. You know what I mean. In this situations a retreat is a good
idea.
When retreating is a bad idea?
When you're retreating slow units like thralls. They can be attacked from behind and deadly
harmed.
Trading your units (are we back to slavery times?)
In Myth you can trade your units for another. Here are some rules on trading:
1) Dwarves are useless during a rainy battle. Their cocktails won't explode.
2) Journeyman should be traded for another units.
How much for this young man (yeak)?
Here are the cost of units in the game:
Spider - 1 point
Thrall - 1 point
Warrior - 2 points
Ghol - 2 points
Myrmidon - 2 points
Archer - 3 points
Souless - 3 points
Dwarf - 6 points
Fetch - 6 points
Journeyman - 6 points
Trow - 23 points !!!
Never throw uphill!
This one is obvious after the first time you do it. Never throw Molotov Cocktails. Gravity
Kills!!!
Are those Journeyman really so bad?
Comparing to their cost, Yes. But if you want, you can get one and have fun. Journeymen
can unheal undead. When you unheal a wight it gets a wight fever and freezes all units around
it. Then you strike.
Whom to train?
There are certain units which should never be sacrificed. This is a short list:
1) archers - they get more accurate and stronger. It really helps!
2) dwarves - their range incredibly increases and their accuracy is almost perfect.
3) warriors - they become generally stronger.
Do I have my favourite tactic?
Yes. I can tell it, because it's very easy and popular. It's a defensive tactic and works when
the enemy attacks your front line. We're on a flat terrain. I put my archers to the front line into
Staggered line formation. My dwarves are put in front of them(loose line). Then I have a
short line of thralls, next a short line of warriors. When the enemy comes closer I retreat my
archers to the flanks. The dwarves attack as long as they can, then they retreat behind the front line..
Now I let my thralls attack. Warriors just clean up...
Super Berserker
Berserkers are probably the best units in Myth comparing to their cost. Half a dozen of them can kill everyone. When trading, always take all these guys! They're perfect.
Don't kill your friends
There is nothing worse than watching your guys killing their friends. You appear to be a very bad player when you let your archers or dwarves shoot your army's back. Never do it!
Magnificent dwarf!
Maybe, but in Multiplayer dwarves aren't too usefull. But in single player you have no choice so you should know a few tricks with them. As you know, dwarves can kill a large army of thralls with one cocktail. When attacking such groups you have to use your speed. Dwarves are faster than thralls. When you see a group of lone thralls it's very easy. Just come closer, throw twice, retreat a little, throw again etc. It's becoming more complicated when your enemy has a lot of archers/soulless or ghols. Then your dwarves become useless and such situations are met very often in Multiplayer game very often...
Ducks?
In single player game ie. in Bagrada level I noticed Myrmidons running around the battlefield. They seem to have a route which doesn't change. Their journey always ends in one point or under your sword. In Bagrada I had a lot of fun, cause they were runing/standing in one point and couldn't wait to get killed by my archers. Don't try it in Multiplayer!
Trees are a good strategical point???
In some cases, yes. Trees are really usefull for hiding. When an army of Soulless is attacking, you should stand opposite to them so that you have a tree between each other. Now you can just get closer without getting any hits.
Create groups!
Mixing your units is a big mistake and you've probably noticed it. That's why you should create single groups fo units (ALT+number Longer). This is very usefull ie. when a Trow attacks you should order your archers to shoot it. Selecting them by pressing Alt+number gives you about 5 more seconds than selecting one by one. And it's damn lot!
How to kill a monster (Trow)?
Trow is indeed an amazing creature. Very fast, very strong and very expensive. And of course very difficult to kill. I think I've found a way to do it. In Bagrada I lost only 1 Berserker on a Heroic level and 2 on Legendary! That's how I did it:
Set your archers' fire at the enemy and wait it come closer. Now the most important part: Stop your archers and place a weak unit on one of your flanks close to the enemy. With a little of luck, the Trow will attack it. Now it's your turn. Unguard your army and attack with all units. With a little of luck(again?) the Trow will just start walking and won't fight. Then you should kill him. This tactic is quite difficult but very usefull.
Multiplayer Strategies
Welcome. I decided to create a multiplayer guide as soon as i started to play on bungie.net.
Myth is the best game ever, but when you try out its multiplayer possibilities it becomes a
miracle. This part of my strategy site is completely different from the others. Multiplayer
games in every game are different from single player games. The strategies given here may be
found useless in normal missions. Of course, I'm not going to real all of my tips. But this is
obvious :)
Planning
I noticed that at least 95% of games on bungie.net have planning time option turned on. This
is very useful part of every game! First, it allows you to trade your units. The next tip shows
my favourite trading, but you won't find it useful. trading depends on a type of game and map
you've chosen. When playing a team game as a leader you should give units to your
team-mates during this time. Yet, it's good to draw a plan of your a plan of your attack and
chat it up with your team-mates. I know that you won’t be able to do all this in 45 s planning
time, but when you have 2 minutes, don't waste it!
Trading
Trading is essential part of every game. Each point may be the difference between loosing and
winning. There are certain units which are very useful at multiplayer games. Here are few tips
on trading:
1. Sell all units and max out on warriors and thralls. This may not be the most reasonable
trading, but is really impressive.
2. Sell journeymen, ghols, myrmidons. Leave 1 or 2 dwarves, max on berserkers half of
warriors and soulless, 2 fetch and 2 wights.
Draw me a sheep
Sometimes it's difficult to communicate with your team-mates about the strategy you want to
use (i.e.. the way of attack etc.). Bungie took care of it, they designed a chalk which allows
you to draw on a mission map. Just click on the chalk (the map will get red borders) and draw.
Go up, Go down
Bungie.net has a ranking mod. Every time you win or loose you get or loose points. The more
more points you have, the bigger rank you gain. When playing for rank only, you should
consider 2 things:
1. Are you a good player :)
2. Do you have a good connection. When playing via TCP/IP you have to assure that you
have a fast and stable connection.
3. Are there many players on bungie.net. If most rooms are full, leave and come back later.
Their server sometimes goes down.
Any disconnection (including point 3) gives you a lost badly influences to your rank! One day
I lost 3 ranks because of this. Don't multiply my mistakes!
Camping
Campers are players who play for rank only, not for fun. They hide in a corner of a map for
most of the game and strike at the end. They often win cause they have a full army. Campers
suck, especially on LMOTH (Last Man On The Hill). But there are some ways to stop them:
1. Set the playing time for 5 minutes. This will obligate everybody to charge to the hill.
2. Play Body Count. Campers almost always loose on this game.
Some tips on Body Count
Body Count is the most popular game on bungie.net. It takes skill and makes all players
involve into a combat. Your goal is to kick as many asses as possible. Here are some tips:
1.Starting on a hill. When you are in such situation, don't move from the hill especially in small
maps. Most players rush to the hill so you will have a lot to kill. I recommend buying a lot of
defensive units and forming them into circle.
2. I've never tested this tip cause it's a little tricky and gives a little fun. You need dwarves to
do it. It only works on 2 players(Teams). Try to inflict as much damage at the beginning.
When you are sure you've killed more than you've lost, blow your guys up! Just leave one and
hide under water or somewhere else.
Soulless or Archers?
Soulless are better than arhcers in Multipleyer missions. If you have lots of hardly accessible
hills you should buy lots of these guys.
This is war
The most important part of every combat is surprise. There is nothing better than
attacking from behind or with a huge army of archers. They can really make a mess!
To attack or to defend?
To attack! Attacking first gives you more fun and increases your chance of winning. The first
one to attack almost always wins (2 players with the same army).
Berserkers!
They rule on bungue.net. Always treat them as a priority in trading, get them all. They are the
biggest danger to a Trow.
Who am I?
You can reach me as Mythrandir on Bungie.net (not the one who has paid 200 games).
Heroes kick ass!
Dwarves are really impressive in single player missions. That's why they are overused by
newbies in multiplayer games. You should always get 1 or 2, no more. But there is one
exception from this rule - veteran units. Everybody who has played The Five Champions
mission knows what I'm talking about. Dwarven heroes and archers rule, get them all!
Multiplayer mining
Mining is pointless in multiplayer missions. I once played with a guy who used about 40
charges to mine a bridge. One fetch shoot and his work was spoiled, he also lost his dwarves.
Don't repeat his mistakes!
Wightmania
Wights seem to be very useless, especially when they're so easy to kill in Single Player missions. But in Multiplayer they make change the difference between loosing and winning. These guys don't have to breathe so you can hide them under water. This is essential in maps like If I had a Trow or I'll dance on your Spiderweb...So here are some tips on wights execution:
1. There are certain points which are perfect to hide your wights, so if you know that there is a wight in the water try to zap it by shooting the water and spotting all the points around.
2. You can use your wight to blow another one - this sounds stupid, but if you have more wights you can win this way.
3. Sometimes a thrall may "ask" enemy wight to join him - under water. When you see enemy wight going into the water, click a thrall on it. He will do his best...
Kamikadze dwarves
Many players think that only dwarves are kamikadze units. But you can also use dwarves to make kamikadze attacks. This is very usefull against trows. When you know that the trow will kill you make your death more painful to him and drop all your setchel charges.
Killing lots of dwarves
Many players like to secure narrow passes with dwarves by making them shoot one point all the time. This wallfire seems very difficult to pass, but on maps like If I had a Trow you have to remember about one essential thing - cocktails don't blow underwater. Use this well...
Checking the stats
There is one very important button which may be essential in every multiplayer game - F7 button. It shows all your stats, and the current winner. I lost many Body Count games, cause I didn't exactly know who is winning.
Run, run
Ghols are not very usefull in Body Count games but are essential in LMOTH, STB, Territories, Captures... They are the fastest runners so they can bring the ball first or capture the flag first. I recomend sending a pack of 3 ghols to each flag/ball instead 1 to every flag/ball. You will surely meet your enemy ghols and you may kill them with an ease...
Bouncing Cocktails
Lihgtning in Myth is a real energy and can move many objects. You just zap a ball and watch it bounce all over the map. It's lot of fun, especially when you know that you'll loose. Fetch lightning can also lenghten the range of your dwarves. Just order them to shoot one point in front of enemy. This thing can really make a mess.
A hidden surprise
Sometimes your dwarves throw cocktails into the water. These cocktails are still explosive and can cause a great damage. You just need to blow them up. With what? With a wight of course. If your wight will explode on 30 cocktails it will destroy anything in the water and by the shore. This trick is also usefull during the rain. Cocktails don't blow when thrown with high angle. If it stops raining, blow them with a dwarf. If it doesn't, use a wight!
The biggest kick in the world
Most players let wights hide or come closer cause they are afraid of their trows and they don't want to engage them. That's incredibly stupid. Remember that wights DON'T hurt trows. Trows don't even fall into fever. As you can manage to make a trow assault you should attack wights that are close to other enemy forces. This will cause incredible damage. Yet, the enemy will fall into fever and will be a great target for your trow. Try that, it really works!
Stupid fetch
Fetch are very good offensive units. But their lightning is a real energy. It will search for the closest living thing, no matter if it belongs to you. This may be well used against enemies. If you see an enemy fetch following his enemy units sacrifice few warrioirs etc. and attack his army. The fetch will start shooting at you but the lightning will hit enemies. 2 zaps are worth your warrior. Of course this one can be also used against you so put fetches to the flanks.
Ranked/Unranked?
Bungie.net gives you an opportunity to train any game without gaining/loosing points. That's what unranked rooms are for. I do not recomend joining a game or a map you've never played. It's always worth to create a game in an unranked room and train a certain type of game. In order to know each map better, start any game on it and save a film. Then you'll be able to search for strategic locations etc. There's no time for it during a ranked game. I especially recomend this to newbies.
Together or not?
Mixing your meele units may sometimes be a good idea, especially when you're in defense. I always try to mix my zerks with myrmidons. Why? When the enemy is attacking he can only select one certain type of unit to attack. Ie. when he attacks your Myrmidons, he won't attack your zerks ans vice versa. This one is very usefull against trows.
Move it!
This tip works on most games, but is very important in games like STB or Captures. Remember! When you're playing these games on big maps you have to be in instant move. I once was playing STB on Rest in Pieces and I didn't go for the ball too quickly (Is anybody camping here ;) ). Despite the 15 minutes game time I even didn't manage to touch the ball. Don't repeat my mistakes, always try to be as close to the ball as possible!
Recognization is the way to succeed.
Games like STB, Territories, Captures are perfect against campers. Campers never win in these games. Why? They don't know what's going on, they don't know which enemy is where. Recon is the essential thing that should be done in such games. Use Ghols to run around, search for enemies and get the balls/flags. Don't be afraid to sacrifice them, they're worth it.
Why I don't like Body Count?
No clear goals, just pointless attacks. I liked it before I saw a film which supports my kamikadze tactic mentioned before. It really works :)Download the film and change your mind too. STB or SH are much more funny than body count, especially that people tend to play it almost only on 1 map...
Changing your attidute to Journeyman.
I wrote that journeymen are useless and I think that I was wrong...at leats in some cases. It's not worth healing a zerk or warrior but when you can heal a giant you should consider taking a journeyman. Remember that the giant (as all light units) can be healed to almost full health. When you can heal him 6 times (the number of jmen healing points) it's like you had 3 giants...
So what to do with the strategy above?
Healing the giant was a very good strategy which needed to be defeated quickly. It was a little like a fetch bug to players who never used it before - they were usually loosing. But the "cure" was invented quite quickly. It is in fact very obvious. What you had to do was not leting the giant run away from your meele in order to get healed. And who can do it? Of course ghouls with wight parts. This one really works...
Stereotypes...
Some games on certain maps are played the same way by 80% of players. And on BC Trow holdnig the bridge is practiced by 90% of all players. In such games accidents may change the results. It is much better to invent something new which will surprise your enemies. I.E. on mentioned BC Trow you don't have to keep the bridge. Find a good spot (a hill - 1 on both sides, which are really good defensive positions) and make a trow assault. All u need is killing 1 unit in order to get advantage. Then retreat and wait for enemies...
Scavenger Hunt
This is one of my favourite games recently. There are more and more good players on this game but is't difficult for a "Body Counter" to win this game. The goal is not to fight but to run. Remember that you have to visit all UNCONTESTED balls. It's not good to divide your army and leave the ball. You should generally stay with the ball and try to put it with a soulless on a hill so that your enemies can't reach it. Then you can run for the next ball. When your enemy has a bigger army don't retreat without a ball. Remember that he doesn't need you, but the ball...
Who sucks?
I didn't notice many players which really suck on bungie.net. But I found one guy who really
made me mad. I hope that this list won't be long...
FARO - I just got my first grade up and decided to play in a team. Faro was my leader. He
made a bunch of pointless attacks and lost some units. Then he detached my units and ran
towards enemy fortifications. Then he disconnected, leaving me as a looser in a terrible
situation.
Multiplayer Maps
At Last! I dreamed about this section ever since. Now It's here! Each map has a detailed description of the terrain, trading. There are also special strategies on each game. This section is just starting and not everything is ready. All strategies are welcome!
Multiplayer Films
Yeah! My Geocity web space has extended. Now I can put here some great films from multiplayer games. Films are the best way of training, especially when you don't know the map or the game. If you have a good film, email it to me! Enjoy end be prepared to see more!
