DR is told Westgate will rent their units out for them for income
Westgate Timeshare Resort Issues
Date of Incident: 1/17/2003
My family went to Orlando in the summer of 2000 and went to a timeshare presentation at WGL. We were very impressed but, told the salesperson that we could not afford to buy. She brought in another salesman who asked if we would like to come back in a year or two and reconsider. We said OK and bought a 1 week stay in a 2 br condo for around a $1000 (I can't remember the exact amount).
We returned for our weeks stay in the summer of 2002. The sales staff kept leaving messages that we needed to sign some papers to clear up some unfinished business. My wife and I called and were told that this would only take a few minutes. We left our children in the condo and went down to the sales office. We were met by the salesman would told us that we were participating in a program that was not offered anymore because the deal was just too good to make available. He said that they would hold the sales price at the price that quoted to us in 2000 plus they would give us credit for the $1000 we paid to come back. They gave us another tour and told us about all the expanding that Disney was planning. They gave was the story about there being too few rental units available in the Orlando area for all of the convention business planned for the city.
When we got back to the sales office he used the 9/11 tragedy to make a sales pitch. He told us they had some WGL owners that lost there lives on 9/11 and that they may have a unit available that was a foreclosures. He then called over some lady named Wanda and guess what! They had a unit available. We still weren't ready to buy so he said that every some often he has extra weeks available to give to people. He explained that that would give us 2 weeks to rent at $2500 each. He lead us to believe that Westgate would be renting these weeks for us. I made it clear that we would need the rental income to be able to afford to buy. I told him that we wanted to rent both of our weeks. He said OK and we bought.
I just found out that Westgate doesn't rent units for owners and that Westgate has no record of the extra week that was promised to us. The whole thing was a sales pitch, a lie.
