KB sat for six hours, no food, no bathroom break
Westgate Timeshare Resort Issues
Date of Incident: 5/21/1999
We had a similar experience in Massanutten, Va.--six hours, no lunch, not even a bathroom break. They had us over a barrel because we had "won" a weekend at the resort as long as we took "the tour". If we didn't get the necessary signatures, however, our credit card would be charged $400/night, two night minimum. (We had already spent the night on Friday night)
This was the first time we had ever heard of time sharing--and like you, we thought the concept was a good one, but would never sign anything without at least twenty four hours to think about it. Also like you, they kept us long past the agreed upon time limit, made us go through three levels of sales pitches, and spoke to us derogatorily when we wouldn't sign on the spot, I believe to make us angry enough to leave without their sign-offs so they could charge us for our stay!
Just curious, have you had a chance to look at the Disney property time share ("Vacation Club")? We're thinking about taking a look at it in July while we're down there. We haven't heard from anyone who has been through the "open house" tour there, but so far, over the phone, they've been pretty low-key. Our last (and only other) experience was almost twelve years ago, but we've steered clear of time share promotions ever since. After reading your account, I see we have reason to be gun-shy. I also wonder if anyone is regulating this industry!
