ROUND FOUR OF 2001 SEASON MATCH REPORT. Unley Oval - 22nd April 2001 By Chris Hisee |
Sturt have powered up the SANFL ladder by pounding the
hapless Roosters by 127 points, the club's first 100+ point win since 1988.
Sturt went against the breeze in the opening term and through strong defence
managed to go into quarter time with a 2 point lead. In the second quarter the
floodgates opened and Sturt poured in the goals courtesy of Brant Chambers who
marked strongly and was unlucky not to finish with more than 5.5 at the end of
the match. Stephen White and Damian Squire also had regular shots on goal.
Bruce Lennon, Tim Weatherald and Andrew Whiteman got the ball out of the centre
and kicked it forward constantly. Sturt restricted North to 2.2 in the third
term and kicked 7.5 themselves to set up a massive victory that has boosted the
percentage considerably. Toby Thurstans played one of his best games for the
club gathering 23 possessions, 10 marks and 3 goals including 1 from outside
the 50m line on the run. Other prolific ball winners were Tim Weatherald with
29 possessions, Michael Curtis 21, Damian Squire 25, Jade Sheedy 27, Bruce
Lennon a swag of 35 touches, Dean Woosnam 22, Seamus Maloney 20 and Andrew
Whiteman 24. brant Chamers also grabbed 12 marks and Stephen White kicked 5
straight goals. Sturt are back on the winner's list and now must try and break
into the top 5 starting with a win against Norwood in a special centennary
