ROUND EIGHT OF  2001 SEASON MATCH REPORT

Noarlunga Oval - 19th May 2001

By Chris Hisee

Sturt's chances of making the finals are crushed after yet another last quarter fade out. Sturt started well enough with goals to Wicks and White but missed a few chances and were lucky that South were even more inaccurate at times. During the second quarter both sides went goal for goal for most of the term with Sturt getting their goals courtesy of a great long shot by Mark Conway and some better marking by Stephen White. Daniel Wicks was often danferous around goals but missed a few easy shots, as did a lot of other players. The first part of the third quarter was even but towards the end South started constantly attacking the goals and only trailed Sturt by 5 points at the last break. Poor manning up and a ton basic skill errors lost the game for the Blues and on the end South just ran away with the match winning by 25 points. Sturt played the match as if it were a pre season trial rather than a match that had their finals chances on the line. it's going to ba a battle to avoid finishing in the bottom 2 now and if the Double Blues lose to the Tigers next weekend that's where they will probably finish.
