ROUND TEN OF  2001 SEASON MATCH REPORT

Woodville Oval - 2nd June 2001

By Chris Hisee

Sturt ran out of steam to be comfortably beaten by the Eagls by 33 points. Sturt started strongly with Damian Squire goaling twice in the third quarter but the defence couldn't cope under the pressure and the Eagles were able to hold a slight lead at half time. The next half was close but Sturt wasted too many easy shots for goal in the third term. The game was lost at the start of the fourth term where a couple of frees went ignored deep inside Sturt's 50m zone, namely Daniel Wicks' attempt to mark the ball at the 3 minute mark, Wicks was being held but somehow had a free kick paid against him. Seamus Maloney was briliant all match from the wing and Damian Squire had a 19 possession first half but finsihed with only 24. Tim Weatherald battled hard from the centre but was unfortunately carried off the ground on a stretcher with less than 5 minutes remaining in the match.
