It started off great for the Blues and as
the match progressed it just got better. Within in a minute goals to White
and Curtis had given the Blues an early advantage. After a continuous barrage
of goals in the first quarter, Sturt were up 11.5 (71) to Glenelg's 1.3
(9). In the second quarter only a bit of inaccurate kicking kept the Double
Blues from surging further ahead by kicking 4.6 to Glenelg's 2.2. Mark
Conway was dominating the rucks giving the Sturt midfielders first use
of the ball. White was firing up forward and only a few near misses kept
him from scoring 7 or 8 goals for the game. Sturt still held sway in the
third quarter, even though they only outscored the Tigers by a point they
were still diminating possession. The final term rolled on with Sturt going
to 100 points up at one stage but the Bays kicked a few goals to bring
the defecit to 83 points at full time. Tim Weatherald had the most possessions
(22 kicks, 6 handballs), followed by Mark Pitura (11 kicks, 16 handballs)
and Bruce Lennon (11 kicks, 12 handballs). Up forward Stephen White dominated
kicking 5.6 and taking 8 marks, he was assisted by Dean Woosnam who booted
4.2. The defence was tough all day being lead by captain Chris Thredgold
who held Glenelg spearhead David Hams to 0.1 and rebounding Seamus Maloney
and Mathhew Powell who sparked a lot of greta passages of play. The only
lowlights for the game were the injuries to Michael Curtis (thigh) and
Jones (thigh) and the report of Jones (striking) also.
