It was a narrow escape for Sturt on Saturday
against West. A solid defence rebounded and repelled a lot of Blood's forward
thrusts all day with the prime movers being Maloney, Thredgold, Powell,
Robinson and Howman who took some great marks. Dean Woosnam played a good
game in the wet conditions scoring 3.2 and Squire started off well kicking
the Blues' first 2 goals. Andrew Whiteman continued to develop as a great
midfielder picking up 14 kicks and 11 handballs scoring 1.1. Other prolific
posession getters were Pitura (14 kicks, 5 handballs), Squire (14 kicks,
8 handballs), Geddes (9 kicks, 13 handballs), Weatherald (20 kicks, 2 handballs),
Twitt (12 kicks, 10 handballs) and Curtis (12 kicks, 8 handballs).
