| Sturt's 5 game winning streak came to a crashing
end against the league leading Eagles. Sturt opened brilliantly kicking
5 goals to 1, including a sensational goal where Andrew Whiteman tackled
an Eagles player on our half back line, spilling the ball to Bruce Lennon
who tapped the ball forward then gathered it, then evaded 2 Eagles players
and handpassed to the running Tim Weatherald who kicked a running goal
from just inside 50m. Unfortunately the Double Blues couldn't maintain
the intensity and only scored a rushed behind late in the second term.
The third quarter wasn't a lot better but great defensive work from Chris
Thredgold gave the Blues good rebound from defence. Jarrod Twitt, Brodie
Atkinson and Bruce Lennon played well in the midfield and Corey Jones was
a livewire up forward kicking 3 goals.
