ROUND 18 - STURT v CENTRAL - ELIZABETH OVAL - JULY 2000

Sturt achieved a remarkable victory against second placed Centrals. The Double Blues went into the game as underdogs and although they lost Stephen White before the game with a groin injury the Blues controlled the game for the majority of the contest. Sturt went into the breeze in the first quarter but thnaks to great forward work from Julian Burton, Toby Thurstans and Brodie Atkinson the Blues made the most of their forward opportunities. The Double Blues struggled early in the second term but after a while got moving to go into half time with a 16 point advantage. Sturt held off Central for most of the third term with great marking and rebounding from defence by Scott Robinson. As usual Bruce Lennon and Jarrod Twitt were superb from the midfield as was Damian Squire. Sturt held sway for most of the last quarter but the Bulldogs got dangerously close scoring 3 consecutive goals towards the end of the quarter but the siren went 7 seconds after Centrals' last goal.
