* Now that Mechwarrior 4 has finally rolled around, theres some new things that I have picked up that will maybe help you also. They finally made a Mechwarrior that actually requires strategy to win, which is awesome. Most of the fighting is not only piloting skills, but also Strategic moves around the enemies sight and radar so you seem him before he sees you.
* Usually when starting a battle I use the advantage of turning off radar, this is the best way to sneak up on the enemy of course cause they can't see you this way, do this by pressing CNTRL+R which will turn radar to passive mode.
* It might also be helpful to turn on chain fire once in a while vs. group fire, espeacially if you have about 5 weapons that will throw your opponent off balance. If your enemy is being shot at continuosly by chain fire, he wont be able to get a good shot at you, therfore giving you more time to live and/or kill him. However, group fire does work effectivly aswell, usually if you hit the enemy good, and give him some good damage he will tend to retreat slightly, or he could be a hot shot and come after you still. Either way firing modes can be helpful in some cases.
