What did Nintendo's official magazine say about the greatest game of all time?

Play MIDI-Zelda 3 Light World
Well, first off, the overall rating was a not bad

9.5

The highest rating ever? No. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past scored a whooping 9.8 way back in Volume 34. Here's more specificly what they said:

Graphics: 9.3 "The cinematic scenes and atmosphere in Zelda will set a new standard for video game adventures."

Not bad. In fact, excellent. For the record, that's the same rating they gave Banjo-Kazooie.

Play Control: 8.8 "Analog movement and control responce is excellent, so Link's moves and use of weapons and tools is first rate."

Not excellent, but great anyhow. With the smart button layout Miyamoto and team spent forever making, no suprise. They said that the reason not above 9 was cause every button did something and it got a little confusing.

Game Design: 9.9 "Miyamoto doesn't disappoint."

Wow. Now this is the highest they've scored a game. Doesn't suprise me however. How can a fantasy adventure with minigames, horses, monsters, duel, magic, time travel, and many dungeons, secrets, weapons, monsters, and adventures possibly score any lower?

Satisfaction: 9.9 "You've gotta love this game."

Nuff said.

Sound: 9.2 "The music and sound effects help ass to the emotional impact of the game."

Listen to all the sound effects in the videos and you will become a believer. As for music, we haven't tasted much of that yet, but Peer from IGN64 described it, it's very "zeldaish". :-)

Evaluator Scores

Armond gave a 8.0

Whatever.

Jason gave a 10.0

That's more like it!! This majestic adventure earned a majestic rating from this great guy. I say it deserved higher still though...

E (WHO?) gave a 9.0

Not bad. This is a great rating, worthy of a grand game. Which Zelda is.

Ed gave a 9.8

Yep, that seems about right. 9.8. Yep, yep. Excellent. JUST short of perfection.

Scott gave a 9.5

Acceptible. What the title is worthy of, give or take a little.

Quotes

Scott

"Variety and exploration on an unprecedented scale."

How true.

Andy

"Say goodbye to your friends and family before you start to play."

Oh, I'll be too busy rushing into the room and slamming the game in to do anything like that.

Paul

"Deep. Mysterious. Thought provoking. All games should be like this."

Yes they should, Paul, but unfortunetly, this is quality beyond which is possible to exceed- or even match. Or even come close to, for that matter.

Afterthoughts

Deep. Provoking. Incredible. Unmatchable... says Nintendo Power. Are they advertising? I don't think so. In fact, I bet it's even better than they say. This majestic adventure redefines "adventure", with everything you could want from a game, plus oh so much more. Say goodbye to friends and family before you enter the Land of Gold on N64. Welcome to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
