Sigurd

Sigurd He is the central character from the prologue through Chapter Five. He is the direct descendent of Baldo and becomes the heir of the Holy Sword Tilfing. He lives in Chalphy, an area in the Kingdom of Grandbell, with his aged father Lord Bailon. He also has a younger sister, Ethlinn, who married his best friend Cuan of Lenster.

Years ago, he went to school in Barhara, where he met Cuan and Eltosian of Nodion. They became close friends and promised each other that they will help each other in times of need. This is what led Cuan and Eltosian to help Sigurd at certain times in the story.

He becomes involved in the war when he goes to rescue his friend, Princess Eidin of Jungby. While on his journey, he marries a young lady named Diadora and has a son named Selis. The war leads him through a series of tragedies, and ends up with the greatest tragedy of all.....

I really feel sorry for this guy... All those troubles that he goes through--he is like a problem magnet (^_^). All his close relatives (except his son) die early--father was killed by Langobalt, sister by Trabant, and wife by Alvis (mother must have been dead before the story). Every country that he went to had some war going on, and that killed more people. And this all started because he wanted to save Eidin!! She's the supreme source of evil. He may have lived longer if he abandoned her...

I personally didn't think Diadora is a good match for Sigurd. Love at first sight...pretty romantic, but I personally think he should have been with his long time friend Eidin. I have a feeling that all the people around him thought the same way I do, and maybe Sigurd was thinking about it too, but one look at Diadora changed his mind. Maybe he hasn't been outside the castle too much (^_^). I'm happy that his son is a good boy though. I think that was because Shanan, Oife, and Eidin were the ones that raised him (^_^;)

As a fighting unit, he, Cuan, and Ethlinn always went together in the front lines. (Of course, it's the horse...). That's why I always think of them as a group. It was sad when Cuan and Ethlinn left the party....I think that was when Sigurd also started to hide in the back, as if he lost the strength to fight. ...oh, that's my problem (^_^;). Levin and Aila were had become too strong, and they ended up taking that space by then. So there was a little flow before the tragedy that foreshadowed that downfall, so I wasn't that surprised (yeah, right...).

Farewell, tragic hero, you will always be in our mind.....
