Daddy's Day at Work

"Bye bye, honey! See you tonight!"
"Bye bye, daddy! Love you!"
"Love you too, sweetheart! Bye!"

And so goes my usual morning. Get up, kiss my wife, eat, change, say good-bye, and leave for work. Work all day behind a computer terminal, and come home in the evening. Most of that is actually true. But my familly doesn't realize that they have a shadowrunner for a husband and a daddy.
It's hard, keeping up this charade of working for Fuchi, day in, day out, six days a week, sometimes getting raises, some times getting transferred, etc. If my family knew what my day was really like, they would run from me like you would from a 6'3" cockroach. Well, I guess it comes with the turf. It was hard enough getting a wife, elves being so 'arrogant,' 'noble,' and 'self-centered' and all. But I love my family, and I will fight to keep them mine.

But my job is a lot more dangerous than one might expect, the trid conveying that Decking is a breeze compared to hacking through zombies like Neil the Ork Barbarian(c). But, to tell the truth folks, I'm not out there risking an arm or a leg, which can be replaced, I'm out there risking my mind, which, if lost, can never be replaced. But I do get in my share of firefights as well, someone trying to lift my deck, or insulting my friends, or whatever, I'm just as fast (well, maybe), as the next guy to bust a cap in his head, whether he be a boy or a girl. Not much difference to me, I guess.

And, as you are so thinking, yes, I am cold and callous. But that is only a defense mechanism. In this biz, and in especially Decking, you don't have many (or even one) friend, and you hold on to them as long as you can. Don't get me wrong, I hate hurting someone that, in fifteen years, could be my daughter, but it's something that has to be done.

I don't know how this is reading to you people, and I really don't care. This is for me. I don't care if you hate me because I'm 'leading on' my family, or because I kill, or because I'm a 'data pirate,' or whatever. I'll tell you this, folks, and it will change your life.

Life is for Love

Whatever you make of these four words, make sure to share it. With everyone. Everyone needs to hear those words, and they need to understand them. I know I do.

"How was work daddy?"
"Great, honey, just great."
