2)Introduction
-------------------------------------------------------------

First, I'll like to specify that this is NOT a direct walkthrough for Pokémon. Rather, it's a rating of each and every evolved Pokémon in the game, as well as move recommendations for them. If you're looking for something to guide you through the game, this is not the place, but if you're just looking for some advice to create a good team, look no further!

3)Version History
-------------------------------------------------------------

02/06/2000 - Made a HUGE update. Since I couldn't be bothered to start from scratch, on certain Pokémon, I added a "revised comments" section below the normal one. Also updated EVERY single Pokémon's "Needed" and "Recommended" moves.
08/03/2000 - Welcome to the year 2000. Rewrote Venusaur's and Parasect's ratings.
30/11/1999 - Version 1.0 finished.
20/11/1999 - Version 1.0 started.

4)Team Advice
-------------------------------------------------------------

In my opinion, there are always two types that MUST be in every team : Water and Ground types. After that, Electric and Psychic comes next. After that, Fire or utility Pokémon are the best choices. For example, lets take a trial team :

Starmie(Water)
Strong against Water, Poison, Fighting, Flying, Fire, Rock, Ground
Weak against Bug, Electric, Grass

Golem(Ground)
Strong against Ice, Poison, Rock, Flying, Fire, Electric
Weak against Grass, Ice, Water, Fighting, Ground

Electabuzz(Electric)
Strong against Water, Flying, Rock, Poison, Fighting, Electric
Weak against Ground, Grass

Hypno(Psychic)
Strong against Poison, Fighting
Weak against Bug

Arcanine(Fire)
Strong against Fire, Grass, Ice, Bug, Poison, Electric
Weak against Water, Rock, Ground

Gengar(Utility Pokémon)
Strong against Fighting, Normal, Poison, Rock, Ground, Water, Flying
Weak against Ground, Bug, Psychic, Ghost

Thus, this is a well balanced team with a good range of attacks. However, thanks to the huge range of Pokémon, alot of these can be replaced with an equally(or even more) effective Pokémon of the same type, and in some cases, certain types can be totally taken out (Replacing a Ground type with a Normal type which can learn Earthquake and Rock Slide, or taking out an Electric to replace with another utility if you have enough Electric moves are prime examples of this). With this in mind, devise your killer team with care.

5)Type Rankings
-------------------------------------------------------------

Normal - A very much overlooked type, although it is admitted that not many Pokémon from it are useful. However, the usefulness from this type comes not from the Pokémon which carries it, but more from the bonuses it gives. Having this type means only a weakness to Fighting, and almost all of the better Normal Pokémon can learn Psychic to counter that. It also gives you the .5 bonus for ALOT of the most used attacks, like Hyper Beam, Body Slam and Explosion. Thus, it isn't exactly a type you'll immediately look for when devising a team, but one Normal type CAN help a team well.
Best Pokémon : Snorlax, Tauros, Chansey, Kangaskhan
Best Attacks - Hyper Beam, Body Slam, Double Team, Slash, Lovely Kiss, Recover, Softboiled, Rest

Flying - One of the worser types, and for good reason. It's advantages are Grass, Bug and Fighting, which are rarely used in teams, and it's weaknesses are Ice and Electric, two of the most used types in teams. It may also be invincible against Ground, but all but one Ground Pokémon can learn Rock Slide to combat that anyway. However, it still has it's merits, mainly the useful FLY to travel to and from places quickly, and most Flying Pokémon are also Normal types, which gives them the extra .5 bonus type from most attacks that they learn. It's a useful type in the beginning of the game, where most of the trainers use Bug Pokémon, but loses most of it's worth soon after that. Note that there's no pure Flying type in the game.
Best Pokémon - Dodrio, Aerodactyl, Fearow
Best Attacks - Drill Peck, Fly(for convenience purposes only)

Poison - Well, the most common type, but this type is rarely found in teams for one obvious reason : it's weak against Psychic which is used in practially EVERY team in the game. They're also weak against Ground types(Another common sight in teams), and their strengths are only Grass and Bug, and it's even weak defensively against the latter. However, they're not TOTALLY worthless, although very hard to use. Their attacks are mostly average against most of the usual types, which isn't bad at all, and some Pokémon from this group look cool. If you're a beginner though, don't even THINK about using a pure poison type in your team.
Best Pokémon - Weezing, Muk, Nidoking, Nidoqueen
Best Attacks - Sludge, Acid Armor

Fighting - Like Poison, this type is weak against Psychic, so it's rarely found in teams. It's weak against Flying as well, although that isn't nearly as important. It's attractive though, as the only type to have a strength against Normal types, and being strong against Rock and Ice types aren't bad either, Although they're both debatable, as almost all Rock types have strong defense to counter a good Fighting hit, and there's only 5 Ice types, two which have secondary types strong against Fighting. Also, most of the Pokémon that fill out these types have stats that double as manure. Not a good team type to have, in general.
Best Pokémon - Machamp, Primeape, Poliwrath
Best Attacks - Hi Jump Kick, Low Kick, Seismic Toss

Bug - Another underused type, which is rather strange as it's the only type which is strong offensively against Psychic types. However, there's only 6 Pokémon that fill out this type, and two of them are horrible, and unfortunately the best Bug attack is found on one of them only. Its also strong against Poison(Which is a little strange considering that it's also the other way around) and Grass. It's weaknesses though are two overly used types, Fire and Flying. You may want one just for the purpose of fighting Psychics, but the others are useful in their own right, and quite team worthy.
Best Pokémon - Parasect, Scyther, Pinsir, Venomoth
Best Attacks - Twinneedle(sob), Pin Missile

Ghost - Well, there's only one Ghost type in the game, and fortunately it's Poison type as well, or it would have been too cheap for it's own good. Ghost itself seems to only be weak to the singular Ghost attack, Lick. However, the secondary Poison type gives it much-needed weaknesses to Ground, Bug and Psychic. Normal and Fighting are also TOTALLY ineffective against Ghost types, but all other attacks can hit you even if they're based on attack, so watch out. Contrary to popular belief, the only Ghost attack is NOT strong against Psychic, but it's a worthy team member anyway.
Best Pokémon - Gengar
Best Attacks - Confuse Ray

Rock - A type mostly used mainly for it's extra Ground type, this type is NOT invulnerable against Electric. Also, it's weak against the most common types, Grass and Water, but it's also strong against common types like Fire, Ice and Flying. In general, it's usually just an (sometimes un)helpful addition to the usual Ground type which EVERYONE needs.
Best Pokémon - Rhydon, Golem
Best Attacks - Rock Slide

Ground - Quite possibly the best of the types based on attack, it boasts the only strength against Electric, which can't even scratch it. An extra strength against Poison and Fire doesn't hurt as well. It also has the added feature of being able to learn Rock moves(save one Pokémon). Weaknesses against Ice, Water, Grass and Flying(offensively) is hard, but it's not worth losing your only strength against Electric. A must in every team. Best Pokémon - Golem, Rhydon, Sandslash
Best Attacks - Earthquake, Dig

Fire - A very much overused type, but why I'm not too sure. It's only strengths are Grass, Bug and Ice, the latter which only one Pokémon doesn't learn a Water move to combat it with. Also, weaknesses to Water and Rock/Ground types make it a type which strengths are rarely used, and which weaknesses are VERY common. It's not totally worthless though, but it's far from the best type in the game.
Best Pokémon - Ninetales, Arcanine, Flareon
Best Attacks - Fire Blast, Flamethrower

Water - One of the more important types in the game. It has strengths against Fire and Ground, the latter of which is rather important. It's weaknesses are Electric and Grass, but the latter is easily remedied with an Ice Beam or Blizzard TM, as ALL Water Pokémon can learn Ice moves. Also, two of them can learn Ground moves as well, to combat Electrics. Also, some of the best Pokémon in the game has this type on it. Basicaly, you need one of these in your team no matter what.
Best Pokémon - Gosh, where to start....Starmie, Lapras, Slowbro, Tentacruel, Cloyster, Vaporeon, Omastar
Best Attacks - Surf, Hydro Pump, Clamp, Crabhammer

Grass - This is an odd type, as it's one that's either effective or ineffective against almost everything, and the latter outweighs the former unfortunately. All of these also come with an extra poison type(Save three Pokémon), which generally hurts more than it helps. It's strong against Ground(Which is strong against Poison), Rock and Water(Which learns Ice moves which are strong against Grass), while it's weaknesses are Fire, Ice, Poison and Bug(Which is usually doubly effective). It's a useful type, but not all are team worthy.
Best Pokémon - Exeggutor, Parasect, Victreebel
Best Attacks - Razor Leaf, Mega Drain, Spore, Sleep Powder

Ice - Well, although you can hardly call it a BAD type, it's certainly useless when you find out that every Water Pokémon in the game can learn Ice moves anyway. There isn't any pure Ice types either, but all the Ice types in the game are pretty good as well. Generally, you should only use Ice types if their secondary type is one you want in your team.
Best Pokémon - Dewgong, Cloyster, Lapras, Jynx. Basically all except cheapo Articuno.
Best Attacks - Blizzard, Ice Beam

Electric - A VERY important type, being the only type strong against Water(Grass is weak against Ice, which lessens it's usefulness). Being strong against Flying types is a bonus as well, but it's weak offensively against Grass. Defensively, all Electric Pokémon have weak defense in general, so you usually have to give them something like Double Team or Reflect to keep them alive. One Earthquake will still usually do them in anyway.
Best Pokémon - Magneton, Jolteon, Electabuzz
Best Attacks - Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave

Psychic - Ahh, the type which holds the cheapest Pokémon in the entire game. Psychics only have one real weakness defensively(Bug) and one real weakness offensively(Psychic itself), which means it's gonna be VERY hard to take down with Special-based attacks, as most Psychic types have high Special. However, most Psychic types have low defense as well, meaning that one good Slash can usually faint(or at least severely weaken) them. A great type overall to have.
Best Pokémon - Hypno, Alakazam, Exeggutor, Jynx
Best Attacks - Hypnosis, Dream Eater, Reflect, Amnesia, Light Screen, Barrier, Psychic

Dragon - As with Ghost, this type only holds one Pokémon, but fortunately it's a great one, and is made non-cheap by it's toughness to train, as well as it's double Weakness to Ice and weakness to Rock. The one big feature of Dragon is it's ability to take most attacks like Fire, Water, Electric easily, and it's only weakness is to Ice. Fortunately, it's secondary Flying type makes it weaker to Ice, average against Electric and weak against Rock, keeping it from being cheap. A great utility Pokémon. Note that Dragon Rage is NOT effective against other Dragon types.
Best Pokémon - Dragonite
Best Attacks - I'm not even going to count Dragon Rage as an attack.

6) Pokémon Rankings
-------------------------------------------------------------

All the Pokémon here are arranged by Pokédex number, and I'll(obviously) only rate evolved ones.

#003 - Venusaur(Grass/Poison)
Venusaur has one main weakness - his Poison type, which doesn't really help one bit. His stats are average except for his special, which is quite high, and he learns the great Grass moves Sleep Powder and Razor Leaf, which almost always criticals. However, Grass and Poison types just aren't all that useful.

Revised Comments : I've been using him rather alot lately, and he's probably just as good as Victreebel. In fact, he could technically be better, since he has better Speed and Defense, although he has less Strength, you'd only use that stat in conjunction with Swords Dance/Body Slam anyway. Plus, Razor Leaf is needed to deal with those annyoing Amnesia'ing Slowbros, Poliwraths and Golducks. It doesn't do badly against Snorlax either...
Needed Moves - Sleep Powder, Razor Leaf
Recommended Moves - Swords Dance/Body Slam, Growth, Mega Drain, Stun Spore

#006 - Charizard(Fire/Flying)
Well, Charizard would be a good Fire type, if it wasn't for that stupid extra Flying type which, although gives him invulnerability to Ground, also gives him weaknesses against Electric and Ice as well as a double weakness against Rock. As it stands though, Charizard isn't all that bad, his stats are well-rounded, and he learns great moves and has a good TM compatibility as well. He's not one that you'll find on my team though. Note that both Charmander and Charmeleon aren't Flying type.

Revised Comments : He's had a lift of usefulness in my view, simply because he's one of the few who can learn Swords Dance/Swift. Otherwise, my comments above about him still stands.
Needed moves - Fire Blast, Earthquake
Recommended moves - Swords Dance, Swords Dance/Swift, Body Slam, Slash

#009 - Blastoise(Water)
The most useful of the three starters, his single type means that he isn't especially weak to anything. As with the other two, his stats are well balanced, and he has an excellent TM compatibility, able to learn both Earthquake and Blizzard to fight Electrics and Grass respectively. He would be excellent to use in the team, except that there are still many Water types better and easier to use than this guy. He's still not a bad choice at all though.
Needed Moves - Hydro Pump, Blizzard
Recommended Moves - Earthquake, Double Team/Rest, Seismic Toss

#012 - Butterfree(Bug/Flying)
Well, he's good when you're just starting out, but that's about it. Save Special, his stats really suck, and the extra Flying type doesn't help one bit. On the slightly brighter side, he can learn a good combination of moves, but I don't think that that will keep you alive very long in the face of practically any Pokémon with a physical move. It's useful in the beginning as the first Pokémon to learn a Psychic move, but it loses it's worth very soon after that.
Needed Moves - Sleep Powder, Psychic/Psywave
Recommended moves - Reflect, Mega Drain, Double Team/Rest, Harden, Supersonic

#015 - Beedrill(Bug/Poison)
Unlike his counterpart, this bee is not even worth using at the beginning. Poison is NO help at all, and his stats suck wastewater. Unfortunately, he just happens to have the best Bug move on him, Twinneedle, which means that you're never gonna see it. Stay away from this guy and prod him with a sharp stick.
Needed Moves - Twinneedle, Double Team
Recommended Moves - Focus Energy, Focus Energy/Swift, Rest, Double-Edge

#018 - Pidgeot(Normal/Flying)
Pidgeot seems to be a favourite among many people, and I have no idea why. He doesn't learn the best Flying move, Drill Peck, and his Strength is depressingly average, a huge hinderance for a Flying type. His stats in general are decent, but nothing to shout about either. He's not evey useful early in the game, he doesn't learn a Flying type move till level 31. If you want a Flying type, PLEASE go for Fearow or Dodrio.
Needed Moves - Sky Attack/Fly, Double Team
Recommended Moves - Agility, Mirror Move, Rest, Double-Edge

#020 - Raticate(Normal)
Another Pokémon who seems to be excellent at the beginning(Especially after learning the powerful move Hyper Fang at level 16), but his usefulness starts to wane soon after that. His Strength and Speed are great, but his other stats suck big-time. He's has good TM potential, but his Special is way too low to consider using any Elemental moves on him. Super Fang and Hyper Fang are pretty good though, but the Pokémon who learns them certainly isn't. Needed Moves - Super Fang
Recommended Moves - Hyper Fang, Body Slam, Double Team, Double Team/Rest, Dig, Bubblebeam

#022 - Fearow(Normal/Flying)
Well, he's better than Pidgeot, but that's not saying much. He has higher Strength and Speed that Pidgeot, and although his other stats aren't as good as Pidgeot's, he's got it better at the most important parts for a Flying type. He also learns the best Flying move in the game, Drill Peck. If you want a good Flying Pokémon, go for this guy or Dodrio.
Needed Moves - Drill Peck, Double Team
Recommended Moves - Swift, Double-Edge, Rest, Agility

#024 - Arbok(Poison)(Red version only)
Although most of the lousy Pokémon I've covered so far are simply wastes of code, Arbok is just depressingly full of potential, but can't quite cut the mustard thanks to his low stats. Strength and Speed are decent, but his other stats aren't good at all. It's a real shame, as he could have been one of the better Poison Pokémon, as he's got an excellent TM compatibility, able to learn Earthquake, Rock Slide and Mega Drain. Spare a thought for this so-close-yet-so-far Pokémon. Needed Moves - Rock Slide, Earthquake
Recommended Moves - Mega Drain, Body Slam, Double Team, Glare, Acid

#026 - Raichu(Electric)
Ahh, everyone's favourite evolved yellow rat. Despite his pre-evolution, this Pokémon isn't actually half bad. He has great Speed, above average Attack and above average Special. However, his HP is a little below average, and his Defense is pitiful(which isn't the burden it could have been, since most Electric types have pitiful defense anyway). In the Yellow version, Raichu also has the advantage of being the only Pokémon to learn Thunderbolt naturally. His also learns a fair bit of good moves. He's not the best Electric Pokémon(far from it, actually), but he's far from horrible as well. Note that he evolves by a Thunder Stone.

Revised Comments : With Stadium's arrival, his usefulness has now crept up several notches, mainly because of SURF! Pure Ground types take two hits, and Rock/Ground types don't even stand a chance. One of the best Electrics now.
Needed Moves - Thunderbolt, Surf
Recommended Moves - Double Team, Reflect, Light Screen, Thunder Wave, Seismic Toss

#028 - Sandslash(Ground)(Blue version only)
For once, it's an early Pokémon which I like. It has great Strength and excellent Defense and HP. His Special and Speed are pretty bad, but it's to be expected from a Ground type. He does his job though, with the ability to learn both Earthquake and Rock Slide, and learns the great attack Slash as well, and unlike Rock/Ground types, he has a chance of surviving Surf/Ice Beam/Mega Drain. A good choice for your Ground type.

Revised Comments : Just an addenum - Sandslash has pretty much become the best Ground type in the game now, thanks to his being one of the few Swift Dancers in the game.
Needed Moves - Earthquake
Recommended Moves - Swords Dance/Swift, Rock Slide, Swords Dance/Body Slam, Swords Dance, Double Team, Slash

#031 - Nidoqueen(Poison/Ground)
Well, this queen may be part Poison, but Ground type helps quite a bit. She has excellent HP and Defense, while Strength and Speed are average and Special is surprisingly only slightly below average. Her TM potential is also surprisingly good, with the ability to learn many Elemental TMs. this makes her a good, but tragically not great, Pokémon. Note that she evolves by a Moon Stone.
Needed Moves - Rock Slide, Earthquake
Recommended Moves - Thunder, Blizzard, Body Slam

#034 - Nidoking(Poison/Ground)
Nidoking is basically the alter-ego of Nidoqueen, with points taken off from HP and Defense to put in Strength and Speed. Otherwise, they're exactly the same, just look at Nidoqueen's rating for this. Note that, like Nidoqueen, he evolves by a Moon Stone.
Needed Moves - Rock Slide, Earthquake
Recommended Moves - Thunder, Blizzard, Body Slam

#036 - Clefable(Normal)
Despite his cutesy appearance, Clefable is actually pretty decent. HP is great, Special is decent, Speed sucks and Strength and Defense are below average. What makes this guy good, however, is his EXCELLENT TM potential. He can learn almost every Elemental TM in the game, and the moves he learns naturally aren't half bad either. He's also the only Pokémon that learns Metronome naturally, although I find it a bit too risky for my tastes. Not too shabby at all. Note that he evolves via Moon Stone.
Needed Moves - None. He's so customizable, he can practically carry off any moveset.
Recommended Moves - Body Slam, Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Light Screen, Thunder Wave, Minimize, Psychic, Rest

#038 - Ninetales(Fire)(Blue version only)
Ninetales seems to be the most underrated Fire Pokémon in the game. His stats are good, with Strength and Defense a little below average while HP is above average and his Special and Speed are excellent. He also learns Confuse Ray naturally, and can learn Dig via TM. His only real weakness is the fact that Fire Pokémon aren't all THAT great, but he's still a very worthy team member. Note that Ninetales evolves via Fire Stone.
Needed Moves - Flamethrower, Confuse Ray
Recommended Moves - Dig, Body Slam, Reflect, Double Team/Rest

#040 - Wigglytuff(Normal)
Well, the two letters "H" and "P" pretty much sum him up. His HP is off the scale, but the rest of his stats are terrible, save Strength, which is still quite a bit below average. He can learn a good variety of TMs, but his Special is way too low to even consider using them. Stay far, far away from this Pokémon and it's bulbous eyes. Not that Wigglytuff evolves via Moon Stone.
Needed Moves - None. Like Clefable, he's very customizable.
Recommended Moves - Counter, Body Slam, Psychic, Submission, Thunder Wave, Sing, Double Team, Double Team/Rest

#042 - Golbat(Poison/Flying)
Golbat is another Pokémon that falls into the "If only..." category. His stats are actually fairly good, with above average Speed and HP, average Strength and Special and below average Defense. However, he has one of the lowest TM potentials in the game, and his types simply betray him, Poison and Flying is possibly the worst combination of types in the game. Yet another "so-close-yet-so-far" Pokémon.
Revised Comments : He's gotten a bit better, thanks to all the Double Team/Amnesia/Swords Dance users out there, which makes Haze all the more better. However, he's still too fragile to last in combat to make good use of Haze.
Needed Moves - Haze, Confuse Ray
Recommended Moves - Wing Attack, Sky Attack, Double Team, Double Team/Rest

#045 - Vileplume(Grass/Poison)(Red version only)
Vileplume seems to be pretty good, but to me, he's worse than Venusaur. He has the same type, but has generally worse stats, with above average Strength and Defense, good HP and Special but horrible Speed. Vileplume has the advantage of the patented Petal Dance, but it seems to be more of a disadvantage to me, as it's just asking for a switch to Fire/Poison/Bug. Overall, one of the worst Grass Pokémon, but that isn't to say that he's horrible, just the worst out of the best. Note that this weed evolves normally once, then evolves by Leaf Stone.
Needed Moves - Mega Drain, Sleep Powder
Recommended Moves - Swords Dance/Body Slam, Double Team/Rest, Swords Dance/Acid

#047 - Parasect(Bug/Grass)
Parasect is a very underrated Pokémon. His stats aren't all that great, with good Strength, average Special, HP and Defense along with tie for the lowest speed in the game. Why use him then? For one simple reason : SPORE! Spore is a 99% hitting Sleep attack, and as soon as your opponent is under, a few Swords Dances and Body Slams can bring down even Mewtwo. However, the problem is simply SURVIVING a hit from Mewtwo, which won't happen too often. He still is far from bad, though.

Revised Comments : Thanks to the Sleep Clause and the many ways devised to combat the constant Sporing of Parasect, this Pokémon has waned in usefulness.
Needed Moves - Swords Dance, Spore
Recommended Moves - Slash, Mega Drain, Growth, Substitute/Leech Life, Body Slam

#049 - Venomoth(Bug/Poison)
I dunno, I kinda like this guy. He has horrible Strength and Defense and Poison type doesn't help any. However, his Speed and Special is above average as is is HP, and he learns LOTS of good moves, both naturally and via TM. He's not INCREDIBLY good, but he's like Parasect in the way that he shows that poor stats do not neccesarily make a poor Pokémon.
Needed Moves - Sleep Powder, Psychic
Recommended Moves - Mega Drain, Reflect, Double Team/Rest, Stun Spore

#051 - Dugtrio(Ground)
Dugtrio is the oddball of Ground types. He boasts amazing Speed, as well as surprisingly slightly-below-average Special. However, his Strength is only just average, while his Defense and HP are underground. He learns good moves naturally like Slash and Earthquake, but his only average Strength is not good for a Ground type. I'll stay far, far away from him.

Revised Comments : Well, he has incredible luck with Fissure for some reason, and his extreme speed makes him a good candidate for the DT/Rest combo, which can really screw up an opponent. Still, the fact that his Earthquake can't kill a Jolteon is a little sad...
Needed Moves - Earthquake, Double Team, Rest
Recommended Moves - Fissure, Rock Slide, Slash

#053 - Persian(Normal)(Blue version only)
If I were to describe Persian in one word, it'll probably be "Blah". His Speed is his only noticeable stat, which is through the roof, but all his other stats are bottom-feeding. He has good TM potential, but his Special is too low to make use of them. He learns Slash, but that's about where his good points end. If you want a Normal Pokémon like him, go for Tauros who at least has more Strength.

Revised Comments : After a bit more experience with him, I've found out that he makes an EXCELLENT quick-and-hard-hitting Pokémon, with his high Speed and his .5 bonus Slash. However, he really isn't all that survivable.
Needed Moves - Slash, Double Team
Recommended Moves - Body Slam, Bubblebeam, Thunder

#055 - Golduck(Water)
Golduck is like Blastoise in the way that his stats are incredibly well-balanced, and that he has excellent TM potential and learns good moves. He would have been a great choice.....if it wasn't for the fact that there are still alot of better Water Pokémon to use out there. He's still okay to use on any team, though.

Revised Comments - With Stadium around, now if you have a whole lot of time on your hands, you can get an Amnesia Psyduck. It's stats are bound to be crap though, and Amnesia Psyduck is basically a faster Slowbro with less move possiblities anyway.
Needed Moves - Amnesia, Hydro Pump, Blizzard
Recommended Moves - Dig, Confusion, Body Slam, Rest

#057 - Primeape(Fighting)(Red version only)
Not many people seem to like this ape, but I do for some reason. His Strength and Speed are high, but his other stats are depressingly low. His TM potential is pretty good, but his low Special means that he can't make use of it. He doesn't learn any Fighting moves naturally either, but there's just SOMETHING about him that appeals to me, maybe it's just because he's a pig like I am.
Needed Moves - Rock Slide, Dig
Recommended Moves - Body Slam, Submission, Thrash, Karate Chop, Double Team/Rest

#059 - Arcanine(Fire)(Red version only)
Hailed by many as the best Fire Pokémon in the game, and I can see why. His Strength, Speed and HP are excellent, while his Defense and Special are average. His only real drawback is his lack of TM potential, but the moves he can learn are excellent anyway. If you're looking for a Fire Pokémon, choose this guy or Ninetales.
Needed Moves - Fire Blast, Body Slam
Recommended Moves - Hyper Beam, Dig, Reflect, Double Team, Double Team/Rest

#062 - Poliwrath(Water/Fighting)
This Pokémon is an oddity, borrowing qualities of both Water and Fighting types, but can't truly be said to be either. His stats aren't great, with Defense and HP good, Strength above average and Speed and Special below average. His moves list make up for that, though, with a HUGE TM compatibility, including Earthquake, Psychic and the best move in the game, Amnesia. Very much a dark sheep, try this guy out, he isn't half bad at all. Note that Poliwrath evolves once, then evolves with a Water Stone. Also, Poliwrath's de-evolution, Poliwhirl, actually has a higher Speed than Poliwrath, but worse other stats. Poliwhirl can also learn Psychic while Poliwrath can't, so if you want Psychic in his moves list, be sure to teach it to him early.
Needed Moves - Amnesia, Rest
Recommended Moves - Hypnosis, Psychic, Earthquake, Body Slam, Submission, Hydro Pump, Blizzard

#065 - Alakazam(Psychic)
This guy is the typical school bookworm - speedy and brainy, but not much on the physical side both offensively and defensively. His Special and Speed are off the roof and visiting the moon(In fact, his Special is the second-highest in the game), but at the same time, his Strength, HP and Defense are visiting subterranean caverns. However, Strength obviously doesn't matter on a Psychic type, but a good physical attack from a decent Pokémon will wipe him out in one shot. Very much one for quick extermination rather than slow but steady progress. Note that he evolves once normally, than has to be evolved via trading.

Revised Comments : His resistance to physical attacks are really a whole lot better than I expected. He makes a VERY annoying member of any team. Highly recommended.
Needed Moves - Psychic, Recover
Recommended Moves - Reflect, Thunder Wave, Seismic Toss, Double Team

#068 - Machamp(Fighting)
If you want a Fighting type, you won't find much better than Machamp. His Strength is tied for the second highest in the game, and his HP is excellent as well. His Defense is average, and his Speed and Special is bad, but that doesn't matter too much to Machamp as he's got it right in the right places. Add that in with the ability to learn the Rock Slide/Earthquake combo. The best Fighting Pokémon in the game.Note that Machamp evolves in the same way as Alakazam does.
Needed Moves - Earthquake
Recommended Moves - Hyper Beam, Body Slam, Low Kick, Karate Chop, Rock Slide

#071 - Victreebel(Grass/Poison)(Blue version only)
Victreebel is one of my favourite Grass types, although I'll have to admit that he isn't the best. He learns the excellent Grass move Razor Leaf, and he's very strong, both in Strength and Special. His HP is excellent as well, while his Speed and Defense are below average. Although I know a few who may disagree, I'll say that Victreebel is better than Vileplume and Venusaur, but he's not the best...Victreebel evolves once normally, then via a Leaf Stone.

Revised Comments : Basically the above, except with the constant Amnesia Waters going around, he and Venusaur has become a whole lot better.
Needed Moves - Razor Leaf, Sleep Powder
Recommended Moves - Body Slam, Swords Dance, Mega Drain, Reflect, Double Team

#073 - Tentacruel(Water/Poison)
Tentacruel seems to be disliked by quite a few people, but I find him one of the better Water Pokémon in the game. He may have crappy Strength and Defense stats, but he's got it good in where it matters, with the highest Special for a Water type in the game, and his Speed and HP excellent as well. He's also the only Water Pokémon who can learn Mega Drain. Excellent, just watch out for that extra Poison type.

Revised Comments : I've slowly revised my opinion about Mega Drain on him. Technically, a Hydro Pump when effective does more damage than Mega Drain when it's super effective. He's still as excellent as ever, though.

Needed Moves - Hydro Pump, Blizzard
Recommended Moves - Barrier, Supersonic, Double Team, Double Team/Rest, Swords Dance/Acid/, Swords Dance/Double-Edge

#076 - Golem(Rock/Ground)
Yay, my favourite Ground Pokémon! Anyway, he has third highest Defense in the game, and his Attack and HP are superb as well. His Special and Speed are obviously low, but that's to be expected from a Rock/Ground type. He also has the ability to learn Explosion, which makes for a great last-gasp attack which can take down even Water types. All around great. Golem evolves once normally, then evolves via trading.

Revised Comments : Well, he's not my favourite Ground anymore. =P He's inferior to Rhydon. He may have better Speed and Special and Defense, but the first hardly matters when you die in any special-based attack, and Speed? It's only 10 better anyway, and no one else's that slow. Needed Moves - Rock Slide, Earthquake
Recommended Moves - Hyper Beam, Body Slam, Explosion, Double Team

#078 - Rapidash(Fire)
Rapidash seems to be useful, but he really isn't. His Speed and Strength are excellent, his HP and Special are average, but his Defense is low. He can't learn the excellent Fire move, Flamethrower, and he doesn't learn any moves that could give him any kind of chance against Rock/Ground types. Technically, he's not bad to use, but he's still the worst Fire Pokémon in the game.
Needed Moves - Fire Blast, Body Slam
Recommended Moves - Horn Drill/Agility, Reflect, Double Team, Double Team/Rest

#080 - Slowbro(Water/Psychic)
Slowbro - Water Pokémon at their underdogged best. Slowbro has great HP and Defense, while his Strength and Special are average. His Speed is tied for the worst in the game, but that doesn't restrict his usefulness. His extra Psychic type gives him even more of an advantage, and his TM potential is great, AND he learns the best move in the game, Amnesia. I don't need to say much more now, try him out and if you can get past that sloth-like Speed, he's surely going to make an impression on you.
Needed Moves - Amnesia
Recommended Moves - Earthquake, Surf, Psychic, Thunder Wave, Body Slam, Blizzard, Rest

#082 - Magneton
Magneton is an oddity in Electric types. Unlike most Electric types, his Defense is rather high, and his Special is off the roof. His HP, Strength and Speed is not exactly stellar, Although his TM potential sucks, he's possibly the most annoying Pokémon in the game when outfitted the right moves. Try him out, and he may be your favourite Electric Pokémon.
Needed Moves - Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave, Supersonic
Recommended Moves - Double Team, Mimic

#083 - Farfetch'd(Normal/Flying)
There's no kind way to put it : Farfetch'd sucks. There isn't even one stat he has that is in any way decent, and he doesn't learn good moves at all, not even the one good Flying move, Drill Peck. Practically the only use this lousy Pokémon has is the ability to learn both Cut and Fly, making him a HM idiot. Stay far, far away from this leek-wielding duck, or prepare for convulsions.

Revised Comments : Unfortunately, he's also one of the few Swift Dancers in the game, and the only one to get a type bonus. That doesn't really help him too much though, since he's dead no matter what.
Needed Moves - Double Team
Recommended Moves - Agility, Swords Dance, Body Slam, Fly, Swords Dance/Swift, Slash, Rest

#085 - Dodrio(Normal/Flying)
Probably the best Flying type in the game, he boasts excellent Speed and Strength. His Defense, HP and Special is below par, but that's the norm for most Flying types anyway. He also learns rather strange moves for a bird, like Body Slam and Tri Attack, and he fortunately learns the only decent Flying move, Drill Peck. The best Flying type in the game, but that doesn't say all that much.
Needed Moves - Drill Peck, Body Slam
Recommended Moves - Tri Attack, Hyper Beam, Fly

#087 - Dewgong(Water/Ice)
Possibly the most unpopular of the Ice types. He may be the worst, but he's not half bad at all. He has great HP and Special, while his Defense is average and his Strength and Speed a little below average, but his main advantage is his Ice type, which hardly acts any weaknesses and only serves to strengthen his Ice-type moves. He may be the worst Ice Pokémon, but he's far from useless.
Needed Moves - Surf, Blizzard
Recommended Moves - Double Team, Mimic, Double Team/Rest

#089 - Muk(Poison)
A Poison type which no one uses, but isn't half bad. His Strength and HP are amazing, while his Defense is average and his other stats are bad. However, Muk is used much more in a strategic way with the right moves. He also strangely can learn quite a few elemental moves, but they don't do TOO much under his below-par Special. A Pokémon for experts.
Needed Moves - Sludge, Minimize
Recommended Moves - Body Slam, Explosion, Fire Blast, Thunder, Acid Armor, Rest

#091 - Cloyster(Water/Ice)
Cloyster has one outstanding feature when you first look at him : his sky high defense, which is the highest in the game. Other than that, his stats are pretty good - high Attack, above average Special, below average Speed and HORRIBLE HP, but that doesn't detract from his usefulness. A good Water Pokémon to try, just watch out for Electric and Grass types. Note that Cloyster evolves via a Water Stone.
Needed Moves - Blizzard
Recommended Moves - Surf, Clamp, Tri Attack, Spike Cannon, Explosion, Supersonic

#094 - Gengar(Ghost/Poison)
The only Ghost type in the game, and fortunately, he's one of the best Pokémon in the game, period. His Special is the third highest in the game, and he's pretty darn fast as well. His Strength, Defense and HP are rather low like Alakazam's, but unlike Alakazam, he learns a lot of great Elemental TMs that take advantage of his awesome Special. His only real weak point is his Poison type, which adds weaknesses to Ground, Bug and Psychic. If you can live with it, DEFINITELY try him out. Gengar evolves once normally, than evolves via trading.

Revised Comments : He's one of the best Pokémon to put Double Team in, since he can't be hit by Swift Dancers, and his only other enemy (Haze) is wielded by Pokémon who's weak to moves he learns. It has a side-effect of making games boring though, since most people opt to PP waste once they see a Double Teaming Gengar...
Needed Moves - Psychic
Recommended Moves - Mega Drain, Thunderbolt, Seismic Toss, Hypnosis, Confuse Ray, Double Team, Double Team/Rest

#095 - Onix(Ground/Rock)
DEFENSE!!!! And thus, there goes Onix's only good point. His Defense in the second highest in the game, but all his other stats are WAY too low to even CONSIDER using him, especially his Special which is equal to a GEODUDE. Stay far, far away from him, there are better Ground/Rock Pokémon to use, and if you want Defense, go for Cloyster.
Needed Moves - Earthquake, Rock Slide, Double Team
Recommended Moves - Bide, Body Slam, Explosion

#097 - Hypno(Psychic)
From Onix to Hypno, the exact opposites on the usefulness scale. Hypno is one of only two Pokémon to learn the excellent Hypnosis/Dream Eater combo, and his stats are actually pretty good, with superb HP and Special, and his other stats(INCLUDING Defense) are only just below average, meaning that he can actually survive a good physical hit unlike Alakazam. If you're looking for an excellent non-cheap Psychic Pokémon, this guy is definitely your first choice.

Revised Comments : The "excellent" Hypnosis/Dream Eater combo isn't really very excellent anymore, thanks to the Sleep Clause. Still, he's pretty good.
Needed Moves - Psychic
Recommended Moves - Hypnosis, Thunder Wave, Body Slam, Meditate/Body Slam, Meditate/Headbutt, Meditate/Tri Attack, Double Team/Rest

#099 - Kingler(Water)
Kingler is the representative of the traditional school bully, strong, bulky, but not much on the fast or brainy side. His Strength is tied for the second-highest Attack, a great Defense which rivals most Ground types, his Speed is average and his Special is the worst for a Water Pokémon. He learns the great signature move, Crabhammer, which practically ALWAYS critical hits and is strong even when it doesn't, which makes up for his incredibly lousy Special. This is one Water Pokémon you're either gonna love or hate, try him out and see for yourself.
Needed Moves - Crabhammer
Recommended Moves - Blizzard, Hyper Beam, Body Slam, Guillotine, Swords Dance

#101 - Electrode(Electric)
Electrode can be summed up in one word "SPEED!". He has the highest Speed in the game, but his Special is average, his Defense and HP is below average and his Strength is possibly one of the worst in the game. He doesn't even learn any Electric moves naturally. Basically, this is the worst Electric Pokémon in the game, and as a friend of mine once stated "The fastest wimp in the world is still a wimp".

Revised Comments : Electrode can work pretty well as a support Pokémon. In this role, he basically Thunder Waves as many Pokémon as he can, then Explodes when he gets weak. However, this kamikaze is rather easily stopped with any Ground type, so be warned.
Needed Moves - Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave
Recommended Moves - Light Screen, Explosion, Screech/Explosion, Double Team

#103 - Exeggutor(Grass/Psychic)
Finally, after a ton of second rate Grass types, we enter the premier rate. Exeggutor may not look all that appealing(Basically, a three headed three who looks like all three of his heads had been up too late last night), but he's very well-endowed stats wise, with EXCELLENT HP, Special and Attack, with above average Defense and low Speed, which doesn't matter too much to him. His Psychic type is also a welcome change from the usual Poison type, and is MUCH more of a help than the latter type ever was. If you want a Grass type, get this guy.
Needed Moves - Sleep Powder, Psychic
Recommended Moves - Egg Bomb, Double-Edge, Double Team/Rest, Double Team, Mega Drain

#105 - Marowak(Ground)
Marowak sucks, it's as simple as that. His Defense is great, but his Strength his average, his HP is below average and his Speed and Special are horrible as expected. He's also the only Ground type that's unable to learn Rock Slide, which makes him hard to use against Flying types, and his signature move is just about as powerful as Earthquake anyway. Possibly the worst Ground type in the game.
Needed Moves - Earthquake, Body Slam
Recommended Moves - Blizzard, Fire Blast, Double Team/Rest

#106 - Hitmonlee(Fighting)
Hitmonlee describes the term "Can dish it out, but can't take it" perfectly. His Strength and Speed are excellent, but his HP and Defense are low, and his Special is low enough to make even Primeape cry. Unfortunately, 3 Fighting moves, one of which is the best in the game, are only learnt by him, effectively wasting all of them. Definitely not the best Pokémon you can find.
Needed Moves - Hi Jump Kick, Double Team
Recommended Moves - Mega Kick, Mega Punch, Body Slam, Rest, Meditate

#107 - Hitmonchan(Fighting)
Hitmonchan is simply another case of "So close yet so far". He possesses three of the Elemental "Punch" moves, but unfortunately they're based on Special, not Strength, and his Special is exactly the same as Hitmonlees. His HP, Strength and Speed are lower than Hitmonlee's, but he put it into his Defense instead. Still, that's no cover up - Hitmonchan sucks, period.
Needed Moves - Body Slam
Recommended Moves - Ice Punch, Submission, Double Team, Double Team/Rest

#108 - Lickitung(Normal)
Most sucky Pokémon usually have some sort of feature to redeem themselves, be it learning a good move, or having one outstanding stat. Lickitung has neither of that. His HP is pretty good, but otherwise, his Defense is average, his Strength and Special are bad and his Speed is tied for the worst in the game. He can learn many Elemental TMs, but his Special just doesn't do it justice. This idiot was a waste of code, pure and simple.
Needed Moves - Double Team, Earthquake
Recommended Moves - Rest, Swords Dance, Hyper Beam, Body Slam

#110 - Weezing(Poison)
Think "Poison type" and the first thing you'll probably think of are "bad stats". Weezing, however, destroys that pre-judegement. His Defense is superb, his Strength is good, his Special is above average, his HP is average and only his Speed is low. His TM compatibility sucks, but fortunately he can still learn a few good moves to make up for it. Basically, if you're going for pure Poison, this is gonna be your best choice.

Revised Comments : 1 word - Haze. Too bad he rarely survives TOO long enough to make good use of it, although that just serves to make him a good Kamikaze.
Needed Moves - Haze
Recommended Moves - Explosion, Double-Edge, Thunder, Smokescreen, Sludge, Fire Blast

#112 - Rhydon(Ground/Rock)
Rhydon is possibly the best Ground type in the game. His Strength is tied for the second highest in the game, and his Defense is incredible as is his HP. His Speed and Special seems to be rather low even for a Ground type, but that doesn't matter much. He canoddly learn many Elemental TMs, but obviously his Special is way too low to make use of it. Possibly his only disadvantage is that the best moves must be taught to him via TM, making him a non-TM duper's nightmare. Otherwise, excellent.
Needed Moves - Rock Slide, Earthquake
Recommended Moves - Hyper Beam, Body Slam, Double Team

#113 - Chansey(Normal)
Well, Chansey is definitely an oddity. His Strength and Defense are the lowest in the game, even lower than unevolved types, and his Speed is still rather low. However, making up for it is his excellent Special and his mind-blowing HP, which can exceed 700, and his excellent TM potential. Even with that HP though, one good physical hit will wipe out all that HP in a hurry, so you have to play VERY carefully and strategically with Chansey. Definitely one for the experts.
Revised Comments : Chanseys...And I'm sure the first few words that come to your mind are "Bloody annoying". They can carry off practically any moveset well, and their so-called resistance to phyiscal attacks actually isn't all THAT bad. Give him a try.
Needed Moves - Softboiled/Rest
Recommended Moves - Practically anything non-physical

#114 - Tangela(Grass)
Tangela has the privelege of being the only pure Grass type in the game, and she/he/it isn't a bad one at that. His Defense rivals Ground types, while his Special is rather high as well. It's HP is average, while her Strength and Speed are bad. However, his high Defense and Special means that it'll be tough to beat. Not a bad Pokémon to train if you want to be different, although you'll be hard pressed to find moves for her.

Revised Comments : Screw what I said, now she doesn't have enough moveslots. A great choice for those who are sick of their Exeggutors by now, since she's rather unique.
Needed Moves - Sleep Powder
Recommended Moves - Growth, Mega Drain, Growth/Solar Beam, Swords Dance/Body Slam, Growth/Rest, Stun Spore

#115 - Kangaskhan(Normal)
Well, he ain't bad, but he sure isn't good either. His HP is great, his Strength and Speeed are above average and his Defense is average, but his Special rivals the Hitmons as worst possibles. As with quite a few Normal types, he can learn many Elemental moves, but can't quite make good use of them. He can learn the Rock Slide/Earthquake combo to somewhat make up for that though. Basically, a good, but far from great Pokémon.
Needed Moves - Rock Slide, Earthquake
Recommended Moves - Body Slam, Seismic Toss, Double Team, Rest

#117 - Seadra(Water)
Seadra is simply bland, there isn't anything he has that makes him stand out. His Defense and Special are pretty good, his Speed is above average while his Strength and HP are quite below average. He also has TM problems, only able to learn Water, Ice and the usual Normal TMs. Basically, I don't think you'll want to use a Pokémon you can barely remember, so don't.
Needed Moves - Hydro Pump, Blizzard
Recommended Moves - Smokescreen, Double Team, Double Team/Rest

#119 - Seaking(Water)
Seaking would have been another bland Water Pokémon, if it wasn't for his strange characteristics. He learns the Flying move Peck, the signature move Waterfall, which is actually weaker than Surf, and Horn Drill as well. His Strength and HP are surprisngly high, while his Special is average and his other stats are below average. He would have been tossed into the "bland" bin if it wasn't for the few oddities mentioned above, but there's still better Water Pokémon out there.
Needed Moves - Surf, Blizzard
Recommended Moves - Supersonic, Double-Edge, Double Team/Rest

#121 - Starmie(Water/Psychic)
Possibly the best Water Pokémon in the game. His Strength and HP are below average, while his Defense is above average, but those don't matter as his Speed is the best for a Water Pokémon, and his Special is excellent too. He can learn an amazing variety of TMs, and the extra Psychic type serves only to help him better, and best of all, he can learn Recover to offset that low HP. One of, if not THE, best Water Pokémon. Note that he evolves via Water Stone.
Needed Moves - Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Recover/Rest(only with Minimize)
Recommended Moves - Minimize, Surf, Psychic, Light Screen, Thunder Wave

#122 - Mr Mime(Psychic)
This mime is the worst Psychic in the game, but that's not saying much. He's got great Special and decent Speed, but his stats otherwise REALLY suck, which doesn't actually matter that much for a Psychic type. He's also the only pure Psychic type (Besides cheapo Mewtwo, off course) with the ability to learn Thunderbolt. His stats still suck though, and he's probably not the best choice when going for a Psychic Pokémon.
Needed Moves - Psychic, Thunderbolt
Recommended Moves - Solar Beam, Thunder Wave, Light Screen, Barrier, Reflect, Rest

#123 - Scyther(Bug/Flying)(Red version only) Scyther is one of the coolest Pokémon I've seen, carrying twin scythers with him. Fortunately, he can fight pretty well too. His Strength and Speed are awesome, while his Defense and HP are average, but his special is way below par. However, he's a physical Pokémon out and out, and can learn the best one there is, Slash. Give him Swords Dance and Double Team as well and you might just have one helluva Pokémon, albeit one that would probably die in any special-based move, or against Rocks and Ghosts.

Revised Comments - Another Swift Dancer. His type combo leaves him a little weak to most elements though, which hampers him quite a bit.
Needed Moves - Double Team, Swords Dance, Swift
Recommended Moves - Hyper Beam, Wing Attack(Yellow version only), Rest

#124 - Jynx(Ice/Psychic)
Well, Jynx is basically a Pokémon who survives on moves and not stats. Her Special and Speed are pretty good, but her HP is average, her Strength REALLY sucks and don't even mention Defense, as Jynx technically doesn't have any. However, Jynx has the best combination of types in Ice/Psychic, and that's practically the only thing that keeps her from sucking(Shut up, perverts), not too mention that she scares the hell out of me with her looks.

Revised Comments : After more experience with her, I can safely say that she kicks some major behind without the sleep clause in effect, and can still do quite some even if it is. As with the other low Defense Pokémon, I underestimated her "resistance" to physical attacks, so she's not bad at all.
Needed Moves - Blizzard, Lovely Kiss
Recommended Moves - Reflect, Double Team, Psychic, Seismic Toss

#125 - Electabuzz(Electric)(Red version only)
Basically, this Electric Pokémon has fair stats with high speed and above average Special and Strength, along with average HP and low defense(as expected), but he would be inferior to the much higher Specials of Magneton and Jolteon.....if it wasn't for the fact that he might actually stand a chance against Rocks, thanks to his ability to learn Psychic via TM. If that's good enough for you to ovecome average stats, go ahead and use him.
Needed Moves - Thunderbolt, Psychic
Recommended Moves - Reflect, Double Team, Light Screen, Body Slam

#126 - Magmar(Fire)(Blue version only)
Magmar is basically Electabuzz with a different type and some of that high Speed added to Strength instead. However, he's less useful than Electabuzz simply because Electric is much more useful than Fire. He's not a bad Pokémon to use, but I'll prefer dogs or foxes to ducks any day.
Needed Moves - Flamethrower, Psychic
Recommended Moves - Reflect, Double Team, Confuse Ray, Smokescreen

#127 - Pinsir(Bug)(Blue version only)
Pinsir is a powerhouse, pure and simple. His Strength is tied for the third best in the game, his Defense is great, his Speed is above average while his HP is just average and his Special sucks. However, unlike his counterpart, he can learn SOMETHING to fight Rocks and Ghosts. Pinsir is the only pure Bug type in the game.
Needed Moves - Double Team, Swords Dance
Recommended Moves - Seismic Toss, Guillotine, Body Slam, Hyper Beam

#128 - Tauros(Normal)
This runaway from Zodiac is probably the best of the Normal types stat-wise, with excellent Strength, Speed, Defense and HP, and just below average Special. However, he's handicapped by the inability to learn Rock Slide, which would have complimented Earthquake perfectly. He's stll good to use though, with the only drawback being that he's so darned hard to catch.
Needed Moves - Earthquake, Body Slam
Recommended Moves - Blizzard, Hyper Beam, Double Team, Double Team/Rest

#130 - Gyarados(Water/Flying)
Gyarados is one of the best Pokémon, stat-wise. He has insane attack, tied for the third highest, his HP and Special are excellent as well and his Defense and Speed are above average, and he learns TONS of Elemental moves via TMs. However, he has one drawback - his extra Flying type. It might nullify his weakness against Grass, but it also amplifies his weakness against Electric, which is NOT good. He's still VERY team-worthy however.
Needed Moves - Hydro Pump, Blizzard
Recommended Moves - Hyper Beam, Body Slam, Thunderbolt, Fire Blast

#131 - Lapras(Water/Ice)
Ooh! My favourite Pokémon, so please forgive me if I start to ramble here.^_^ Anyway, his HP is off the charts and his Special is excellent as well, while his Strength is above average. His Defense is average while his Speed is rather low, but that doesn't matter to him. His main strength is his AMAZING TM potential, and the fact that he learns most of the great moves naturally, making him a non-TM duper's dream come true. Also, he looks exactly like the Loch Ness monster, which is always good. Go give him a try, c'mon!
Needed Moves - Thunderbolt, Blizzard
Recommended Moves - Psychic, Confuse Ray, Hydro Pump, Solar Beam, Body Slam, Double Team/Rest

#132 - Ditto(Normal)
Ditto is very much a strategic Pokémon gone wrong. He has crap for stats and can't learn any TMs at all. However, should he survive for whatever reason, once he transforms, he takes the shape, moves and stats of the Pokémon he transformed into. However, his poor HP still remains, and he only gets 5 PP for each move, meaning the original will probably win anyway. Just stay away from him, period.
Needed Moves - Uhhh.....Transform
Recommended Moves - You crazy or somethin'? Okay....Struggle?

#134 - Vaporeon(Water)
Vaporeon, the first of the Eevee evolutions, is the worst IMHO. He's got amazing HP and superb Special, but the rest of his stats can be compared to a Farfetch'd. However, he's still far from bad, he's still one of the better Water Pokémon in the game, with the ability to learn Acid Armor. If you're still unstatisfied with the many great Water Pokémon already listed, give him a try. Note that he's gotten by exposing an Eevee to a Water Stone.

Revised Comments : Since my last ranking of him, a LOT of Double Teamers have been popping up. Since he's the only hazer who has any kind of stability, he's been pushed up the ranks quite a bit.
Needed Moves - Blizzard, Haze
Recommended Moves - Double Team, Rest, Hydro Pump, Acid Armor, Focus Energy

#135 - Jolteon(Electric)
My favourite of the Eeveelutions, Jolteon has faster-than-a-bullet Speed which is tied for the second highest in the game, but boasts excellent Special as well. HP is average, while other stats are bad, but his other advantage is the wealth of moves he learns naturally, which include Double Kick to give him SOMETHING to fight against Rocks. Add in annoyingness in the form of Thunder Wave and Double Team and you've got a great Electric Pokémon.
Needed Moves - Thunderbolt, Double Team
Recommended Moves - Thunder Wave, Reflect, Rest, Focus Energy

#136 - Flareon(Fire)
The final Eeveelution, he's somewhere in the middle for me. He's got the tie for the second highest Strength in the game, and his Special is excellent as with the other Eeveelutions. Also as with the other Eeveelutions, he has average HP and low for other stats, but that Strength is enough to make up for it. However, his main drawback is that Fire types just ain't all that useful. Still, if you're looking for one, he might just be the ticket if you hate animals.

Revised Comments : In Stadium and the up-coming Gold/Silver, he can perform admirably as a Swift Dancer, or rather a Swift Criticaller. Othewise, he's still good.
Needed Moves - Flamethrower, Body Slam
Recommended Moves - Double Team, Reflect, Hyper Beam, Focus Energy/Swift

#137 - Porygon(Normal)
Throughout this ranking, we've seen Pokémon who make up bad stats with good moves. Porygon is the exception here, his stats are just TOO bad to work with. Only his HP and Special are somewhat average, while his Defense ain't TOO bad, but the other stats are. It's a shame, really, he would have been SUCH a good Pokémon with better stats, with a good TM compatiblity and a great move list which includes the likes of Recover and Conversion.
Needed Moves - Recover
Recommended Moves - Psychic, Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Double Team, Double Team/Rest, Sharpen/Tri Attack, Conversion

#139 - Omastar(Rock/Water)
Another one of my favourites, Omastar's roof-blowing Defense and Special means that no Pokémon will be defeating him easily. He has average HP as well, but Strength and Speed are a bit lacking. Still, that humongous Special is enough to make up for it, and the combination of Rock/Water actually works pretty well. Give him a try.
Needed Moves - Hydro Pump, Blizzard
Recommended Moves - Seismic Toss, Double Team/ Rest

#141 - Kabutops(Rock/Water)
Whereas Omastar borrows more characteristics from Water types than from Rock types, Kabutops does the exact opposite, with extremely high Strength and Defense ratings, along with a strangely decent speed and a below-average Special and HP. However, neither of these fossils can learn the twin terror of Rock Slide/Earthquake, making Omastar just that little bit more useful. He's still far from BAD though.
Needed Moves - Hydro Pump, Slash
Recommended Moves - Hyper Beam, Double Team, Swords Dance

#142 - Aerodactyl(Rock/Flying)
This Pterodactyl suffers the horror known as a "name limit", and get really do some big damage. His Speed is tied for the second highest, and his Strength and HP is great as well. His low Defense and Special prove that he's a one-hit wonder though, and Rock/Flying really isn't all that good of a combination. Try this if you don't like Dodrio, otherwise stick with the three-headed bird.
Needed Moves - Double Team, Double-Edge
Recommended Moves - Rest, Wing Attack, Fly, Supersonic, Hyper Beam

#143 - Snorlax(Normal)
Well, he has insane HP along with a great Strength, but the rest of his stats blow, which would have made him useless if not for one move - AMNESIA! He can take Psychics without so much as a scracteh with Amnesia, and he can learn the great combo of Rock Slide/Earthquake as well. A possible Mewtwo beater, this.

Revised Comments : Yet another extremely annoying Pokémon, he can be total hell to beat, ESPECIALLY with the Amnesia/Rest combo. An invitation for PP wasting, really...
Needed Moves - Amnesia, Rest
Recommended Moves - Hyper Beam, Body Slam, Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Earthquake, Rock Slide, SelfDestruct

#144 - Articuno(Ice/Flying)
Articuno is simply a bit too cheap for my likings. None of his stats are bad, with AMAZING Special, HP and Defense along with above average Strength and Speed. The only thing that would keep him from being unbeatable is his Flying type, which gives him a double weakness to Rock and a weakness to Electric, along with a weakness to Fire. It's still too cheap for my liking though...

Revised Comments : I don't really think Articuno's that cheap anymore, mainly because of his Flying type, which really does him more harm than good. Otherwise, what I said still stands...
Needed Moves - Blizzard, Sky Attack/Fly/Peck
Recommended Moves - Double Team/Rest, Reflect

#145 - Zapdos(Electric/Flying)
Well, only a weakness to Ice and Rock is pretty cheap IMO, especially when you consider than Ice is mostly Water, which is weak against Electric. Fortunately, he's the only Eletric who has practically NO way to fight a Ground type. As with Articuno, too cheap for my tastes.

Revised Comments : Same as Arti's.
Needed Moves - Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave, Drill Peck
Recommended Moves - Light Screen, Double Team

#146 - Moltres(Fire/Flying)
Basically, he's the same as Articuno, except replace "Fire" with "Ice" and "Water". That is all you need to know...

Revised Comments : Same as Zapdos's.
Needed Moves - Fire Blast, Fly
Recommended Moves - Hyper Beam, Swift, Double Team

#149 - Dragonite(Dragon/Flying)
The only Dragon type in the game, and he's possibly the best in the game, period. His stats are amazing, with excellent HP and Special, the highest Strength in the game, great Defense and average Speed. He can also learn an amazing variety of TMs, and Dragon in itself is strong against many types. However, he fortunately has an extra Flying type to guve him a double weakness to Ice, along with averageness agaist Electric and weakness against Rock. However, he's still one of the best out there.
Needed Moves - Thunderbolt, Blizzard
Recommended Moves - Hyper Beam, Body Slam, Surf, Fire Blast, Thunder Wave

#150 - Mewtwo(Psychic)
The cheapest Pokémon in the game, period. He has the highest special in the game at a whopping 406, his Speed is tied for the second highest in the game, his Strength is excellent in general and his Defense is still way above average. He can learn all of the good TMs in the game, and when well-trained, nothing can defeat him. Cheesiness wrapped up in one Pokémon.
Needed Moves - He can have almost anything and still be unbeatable. Oh all right, Amnesia, Recover
Recommended Moves - Psychic, Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Fire Blast, Solar Beam, Body Slam

#151 - Mew(Psychic)
The lost Pokémon, only gainable through Gameshark or Nintendo Tours. He's also quite possibly one of the cheapest Pokémon in the game, somewhere between Mewtwo and the birds. His stats are VERY well-rounded (although the official Mew's stats kinda stink), and he can learn EVERY TM in the game, making him a Double Teamer's nightmare. I don't consider it -that- cheap myself, but you'll be hard-pressed just trying to find one anyway.
Needed Moves - Swords Dance, Swift
Recommended Moves - Earthquake, Explosion, Softboiled, Double Team/Rest
