Forgotten Front Klingon Ranking System

This is a short document detailing the differences between Federation and Starfleet rankings and positions with those within the Klingon Empire. The lists are as close to 'the real thing' as possible, but certain changes have needed to be made to enhance gameplay.

The Chain of Command:

The first part of this list details the command structure from Head of the Klingon Empire down to the rank of ship commander.

  • The Chancellor: The current Chancellor of the Klingon Empire is Martok. This rank is equivalent to the Federation President.

  • General: General's command large fleets and also can sit on the Military Staff of Chanceller. This rank is equivalent to an Admiral in Starfleet.

  • Brigadier: Brigadiers (equal to rank of Fleet Admiral) command entire Klingon brigades of 5000 warriors. They can also command squadron of up to 15 ships.

    The second part of this list deals with rankings on board Klingon vessels.

  • Commander: The Commander (equal to Starfleet rank of Captain) commands larger ships such as the Vor'cha or K'Vort class cruisers. He usually commands 300 warriors and can also serve as military governer of entire planets. He can also command a tactical squadron of up to6 B'rel class bird-or-preys.

  • Captain: A Captain (equal to Starfleet rank of Commander) hos the lowest possible position of command for a warship or outpost. There is usally one captain for every 50 warriors. Captains can also command B'rels.

  • Lieutenant First Class: This rank is the qeuivalent of a Starfleet Lieutenant Commander. A Lieutenant 1st Class will command approximately 25 warriors. This rank is the highest command rank not able to command ships.

  • First Lieutenant: A First Lieutenant is equal to a Starfleet Lieutenant. He will command between 15 and 20 warriors, and will usually head up a department on the ship.

  • Lieutenant: There is usually one Lieutenant (equal to Starfleet rank of Ensign) per every 10 warriors. Lieutenants head up departments or detachments on larger ships.

  • Warrior: Warriors make up most of the Klingon Defense Force. They do not recognize separate officer or enlisted categories. They do not hold special roles or titles. They are equivelent to soldiers.


    Positions on a Klingon vessel:

    Positions are not that much different than on Starfleet starships. First officer, helmsman (conn), engineer, navigator (equal to ops), gunner (security/tactical) and surgeon (Chief Medical Officer). There are no counsellors on a Klingon vessel. The ships second officer is also clearly defined throughout the television series', so this position would also coincide with one of the other positions, usually a Lieutenant First Class.
