NOTE: I got the following information out of a brochure from Monroe County Domestic Abuse Project.
YOU'RE IN AN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP IF YOUR DATE IS:
Verbally abusing you.
This can take the form of name-calling, threating you, putting you down, talking down to you all the time.
Emotionally attaching you.
Here, he or she lets you know that you never do, say or think anything right. You never know what you're talking about but they always do.
Physically attacking you.
You're pushed, shoved, slapped, hit. Your personal property is destroyed. Often your partner's rage is blamed on YOU. ("Why do you make me do this to you?")
Sexually assaulting you.
Rape isn't a sex crime--it's a crime of violence...against you. And it doesn't have to take place in a dark alley.
