Mario's Info
Weapons
Hammer
This is the first weapon Mario will receive, and the description
when equipping this Weapon says 'Pounds enemies'. Mario swings the Hammer
down on the enemy's head. If you do a Timed Hit correctly, swings the Hammer
down a second time. The Hammer increases has an attack rating of 10 and is
it is found in the third screen of the Mushroom Way, after defeating the
Hammer Bros.
Lucky Hammer
Described in the game as 'A lucky hammer!', Mario swings the
hammer down on the enemy's head. Although the Lucky Hammer has a 0 attack
rating, you will receive Coins for hitting an enemy with it. If you do the
timed hit correctly, it will say lucky and at the end of the battle you can
play the Egg Game to double the experience points from the battle. The Lucky
Hammer can be purchased at the Seaside Town Weapon and Armor Shop for the
price of 123 Coins.
Super Hammer
Described in the game as 'The standard for hammers!', Mario
swings the hammer down on the enemy's head. If you do the timed hit correctly,
he would swing the hammer down a second time. This is one of the stronger
hammers, but it is not as strong as the Masher. The Super Hammer has an attack
rating of 40, and can be purchased at the Marrymore Inn/Shop, the Seaside
Town Weapon and Armor Shop, the Sea Item Shop, and the Sunken Ship Salesman
for a blowout price of 70 Coins.
Ultra Hammer
Described in the game as 'The ultimate hammer!', Mario swings
the hammer down on the enemy's head. If you do the timed hit correctly, he
would swing the hammer down a second time and then do a side swing. This
is the strongest hammer attack that Mario can obtain. This weapon is weaker
than the Lazy Shell, which could of been found at this point in the game.
The Ultra Hammer has an attack rating of 70 and can be found in the Gate
area, one room past the second save point.
Masher
The game description for the Masher will say 'Makes monster mash!'.
Mario swings the hammer down on the enemy's head and if you do the timed
hit correctly, he will swing the hammer down a second time. This exceptional
hammer is Mario's strongest weapon available until you reach Nimbus Land,
with an attack rating of 50. The Masher can be found in Booster Tower.
Nok Nok Shell
The game description for the Nok Nok Shell is 'Kick to attack'.
Mario will kick this green Koopa shell at the enemy and there will be a bunch
of small stars that will flash on the screen when it hits. If you do a Timed
Hit correctly, you will see a big star flash on the screen before the small
stars. This is the second weapon that Mario will receive. This will improve
Mario's attack strength and it will be the first shell attack that Mario
can use. The Nok Nok Shell has an attack Rating of 20 points and is given
to Mario after getting to the bottom of Midas River. It can also be purchased
at Seaside Town Weapon and Armor Shop for 20 coins.
Troopa Shell
The game description for the Troopa Shell says 'Kick with it!'.
Mario will kick this red Koopa shell at the enemy and there will be a bunch
of small stars that will flash on the screen when it hits. If you do a Timed
Hit correctly, you will see a big star flash on the screen before the small
stars. This is the second shell attack that Mario will have to opportunity
of using. It is equal in strength to the Masher, but is more expensive. The
Troopa Shell has an attack rating of 50 and can be purchased at the Seaside
Town Weapon and Armor Shop for 90 Coins.
Lazy Shell
The game description for the Lazy Shell says 'Toss a shell at
an enemy!'. Mario will kick a huge red Koopa shell at the enemy and there
will be a bunch of small stars that will flash on the screen when it hits.
If you do the timed hit correctly, you will see a big star flash on the screen
before the small stars. With an attack ratting of 90, this is the strongest
shell attack and the strongest weapon that Mario can receive. The Lazy Shell
can be found by climbing the vine created by the Rose Town Gardener after
you have given him the Seed and Fertilizer.
Punch Glove
The game description of the Punch Glove says 'Knock out power!'.
Mario will punch his enemy and If you do the timed hit correctly, Mario will
do an uppercut after the punch. This will allow Mario to do an improved punching
attack, like the one he used in the beginning of the game. The Punch Glove
has an attack rating of 30 and can be purchased at the Moleville Item Shop
and the Seaside Town Weapon and Armor Shop for 36 Coins.
Mega Glove
The game description of the Mega Glove says 'Packs a Mega wallop!'.
Mario will punch his enemy and if you do the timed hit correctly, Mario will
do an uppercut after the punch. This is the strongest Punch Attack that Mario
can obtain, with an attack rating of 60. The Mega Glove can be purchased
at the Nimbus Land Item Shop for 102 Coins.
Timed Hits
Timing a Punch Attack:
To perform a Timed Hit when Mario is equipped with
a glove or no weapon, press the A Button just before Mario punches the enemy.
The attack will consist of two punches: a normal punch followed by an uppercut.
Timing a Hammer Attack:
When Mario is equipped with a hammer, wait for him
to raise the hammer, then press the A Button again for a Timed Hit. Mario
will clock the enemy with the hammer twice.
Timing a Shell Attack:
When Mario kicks a shell in the air, press the A Button
right before he kicks it again to perform a Timed Hit.
Armor
The armor below is listed in order of weakest to strongest.
Shirt
This can be purchased at the Mushroom Kingdom Item Shop and the Seaside
Town Weapons and Armor Shop for seven coins. It increases Defense and Magic
Defense by six points each.
Thick Shirt
This can be purchased at the Rose Town Item Shop and the Seaside
Town Weapons and Armor Shop for 14 coins. It increases Defense by 12 points
and Magic Defense by eight points.
Work Pants
These can be purchased at the Rose Town Item Shop and the Seaside
Town Weapons and Armor Shop for 22 coins. They increase your Speed, Attack
and Magic Defense by five points, your Attack and Magic Attack by 10 points,
and your Defense by 15 points.
Mega Shirt
This can be purchased at the Moleville Item Shop or the Seaside
Town Weapons and Armor Shop for 22 coins. It increases Defense by 18 points
and Magic Defense by 10 points.
Happy Shirt
This can be purchased at the Marrymore Inn/Item Shop and the
Seaside Town Weapons and Armor Shop for 38 coins. It increases Defense by
24 points and Magic Defense by 18 points.
Sailor Shirt
This can be purchased at the Seaside Town Weapons and Armor
Shop, Sea Item Shop, and the Sunken Ship Salesman for 50 coins. It increases
Defense by 30 points and Magic Defense by 15 points.
Fuzzy Shirt
This can be purchased at the Nimbus Land Item Shop for 70 coins.
It increases Defense by 36 and Magic Defense by 18 points.
Fire Shirt
This can be purchased at the Hino Mart in the Barrel Volcano
and from Croco in Bowser's Keep for 90 coins. It increases Defense by 42
points and Magic Defense by 21 points.
Hero Shirt
This can be purchased from Croco in his second Bowser's Keep
location for 100 coins. It increases Defense by 48 points and Magic Defense
by 24 points.
Super Suit
Perhaps the most mysterious item in Super Mario RPG, the Super
Jacket is also the hardest item to get! It will be given to you in Monstro
Town if you succeed in doing 100 Super Jumps in a battle. (Use Mario's Super
Jump Attack on an enemy, then press the Y Button just before hitting the
opponent to hop on his head again. Do this 100 times WITHOUT falling off.
Good luck!) Everyone can equip the Super Jacket. It increases Speed by 30
points, and Attack, Defense, Magic Attack, and Magic Defense by 50 points.
Lazy Shell
The Lazy Shell Armor can be found in the clouds after giving
the Gardener in Rose Town the Seed and Fertilizer. Climb the vine the Gardener
grows to locate the Treasure Box with the Lazy Shell Armor. The Lazy Shell
Armor can be equipped by everyone, but it's a trade-off -- you lose speed
and attack power for superior defensive strength. It reduces Speed, Attack
and Magic Attack by 50 points each, but increases Defense and Magic Defense
by a whopping 127 points each.
Special Attacks
Jump
Use Mario's Jump to stomp foes! This is the first Special Attack you can use -- Mario starts with it. Push the Y Button just before hitting the
enemy to jump again. The Jump Special Attack uses three Flower Points and
has a Magic Power rating of 25.
Super Jump
Mario's Super Jump is a stronger version of the Jump Attack.
Push the Y Button prior to hitting the enemy to bounce again and cause more
damage. Mario's Super Jump uses seven Flower Points and has a Magic Power
rating of 45. Mario learns Super Jump when he reaches Level 6.
Ultra Jump Mario's Ultra Jump is his most powerful Jump Attack. Like his
other Jump Attacks, you can push the Y Button prior to hitting the enemy
to jump repeatedly and cause more damage! Mario's Ultra Jump uses 11 Flower
Points and has a Magic Power rating of 65. Mario will learn Ultra Jump when
he reaches Level 14.
Fire Orb
Mario's Fire Orb shoots a small ball of fire at one opponent. To
shower the enemy with Fire Orbs push the Y Button repeatedly. . . fast! Mario's
Fire Orb uses five Flower Points and has a Magic Power rating of 20. Mario
learns this Special Attack when he reaches Level 3.
Super Flame
Mario's Super Flame shoots large balls of fire at one enemy.
For a severe fire blast push the Y Button repeatedly! Mario's Super Flame
uses nine Flower Points and has a Magic Power rating of 40. Mario learns
this Special Attack when he reaches Level 10.
Ultra Flame
Mario's Ultra Flame Attack shoots huge fire orbs at his enemy.
Push the Y Button repeatedly to give them a good scorching! Ultra Flame uses
14 Flower Points and has a Magic Power rating of 60. Mario will learn this
Special Attack when he reaches Level 18.
