As I sit down at one of the computers so thoughtfully provided by the university to begin writing my journal, I think to myself, "Isn’t it odd, that from the day that Dr. Eflin assigned a collection of junk mail, I have not received a single piece of mail." I must ask why I am taking this class. There are a few easy answers to that question. One is that, I needed 3 more hours to be full time, and this class fit the bill. Another is that I am after all a philosophy major, and a Bio major, so it only makes sense that I take a course in environmental ethics. I know very well that it isn’t because I feel that I need to further define my own sense of how humanity should interact with the environment, because I am quite aware that my thoughts and feelings on that subject are right where I want them. I think that in truth, the fact that this class ties in with the sciences is probably 40 percent of why I am in this class, while expediency probably makes up another 5 percent. It takes no deep soul searching to realize that the other 55 percent is because I enjoy discussing and debating pretty much everything. And outside of religion, there are few subjects as fun to discuss/ debate as environmental ethics.
