For this mud we spent a few days playing it mainly to see if the ever present lag ever clears up. Not sure if it has something to do with us being in Australia or what, but we lagged quite bad.
3 Kingdoms is not really a mud for newbies. In the case of newbies playing this mud it has its ups and downs. The "Ups", are basically that the help files are pretty extensive and are really quite good. Newbies to this mud are really well taken care of, they have a donation bin and even a little killing zone for themselves. Another point that we always stress is important to nebies is the fact that this mud is a "Restricted" player killing mud. That basically means that you can kill other players but you'll probably be hunted down. Or you can fight within the arena.
There is a map available within the help files. However, saddly we got the clustered up feeling of the whole mud. It wasn't that the mud was gibbering on about nothing. But we felt that there was to much info being provided with each room description. It has a good attendance most of the time which is good coz you can ask some of the older players about other things. Most of them are quite agreeable.
The "downs" for newbies are not that many, but they would really affect whether a person decides to stay or not at this mud. Firstly, there is a "help newbie" file, but being the egotistical know-alls we are, we took a wander before looking at them. ONce we did it pretty damn well buggered us. First we had to read the newbie files then we had to read the adventurers handbook. So by the time we finished reading it we were quite bored...
Another thing is the commands system for 3 Kingdoms is very basic. The only shortcuts for most commands were the directions. When you want to get your character to perform an action you actually have to type in "remove shield". As is when trying to get something from a container. Cmd = get object FROM bin. So it really bites for people who can't be shagged to keep on writing near sentences.
Advice: Overall the mud is good. It is pretty well laid out and you won't be getting bored in the 3 kingdoms. We wouldn't recommend that newbies to mudding in general start off here. But the more experienced mudder would find it quite a challenge. If you are bored with your current mud give it a try. But hey, its a hard choice maybe you should decide.
