George (Geordie) du Beque

Notes

George (Geordie) du Beque was born in Glasgow's worst slums, one of a family of 12. Growing up with never enough of anything, he soon became one of the many street urchins who stole whatever was to hand. As he grew up, he showed a natural flair for fighting that soon made him respected even by much older boys and eased his way into more serious crimes. Geordie was never very subtle, however, and he soon ended up in reform school. There, one of the warders tried to channel his natural rowdiness by teaching him to box, in the hopes that he would learn some discipline. He also suggested to Geordie that his extraordinary skill with his fists could be his route to a decent future. Geordie took up this offer with savage enthusiasm, soon becoming the Scottish and then British middleweight champion. However, talking with another boxer who had studied martial arts, fired Geordie with a new enthusiasm. He decided there was more to fighting than speed and strength. Tossing up his blossoming career, he headed first to Japan, and then to Hong Kong to learn martial arts. He never stayed very long with any style or school, training with a variety of teachers. All agreed on two things: Geordie had a power and speed they had rarely, if ever seen, and two, Geordie totally lacked the insight and inner calm needed to master the martial arts. Geordie didn't care. He thought all this "ki stuff" was bunkum. It was technique he wanted, and he just soaked it up, regardless of its origin. After 5 years he came back to Europe, where he rapidly came to dominate freestyle martial arts competition. However, his lack of a specific style has kept him (unfairly, he thinks) out of world-class competition, so he is looking for new arenas in which to test his talents.

Geordie is about 2M in height, and solidly rather than massively built. He is however, nothing but muscle. He has green eyes and long, sandy brown hair which he normally wears pulled back in a pony tail. He is loud, open and direct - a "There's nae bullshit tae me" as he likes to say. He likes to drink, to dance and to fight, and his technique is pretty straightforward too - attack first and pummel your opponent until he surrenders. However, it takes more than an awesome offence to succeed, and Geordie is not quite the simpleton he often appears. Against a tough opponent, he can weave, block and feint with the best - as long as he can keep his volatile temper under control. Moreover, his tough upbringing has instilled a strong sense of the need to look after people who can't look after themselves. He often goes back to his old neighbourhood to teach at the reform school and he has a weak spot for anyone in need of help - whether it's fending off bullies or the loan of a few quid.
