War soon erupted between two rival clans in the Imperial City, and many innocent ashigaru who occupied the hemin villages found themselves the target of bandits. For nearly a year, Rune scavenged the bodies of the dead for money and other possible goods in order to ensure his own survival. By the age of thirteen, Rune had been found by a slave trader and was sold to a group of travelling merchant for labor. Not even three days after being sold to these merchants, was the caravan attacked by a group of bandits, and all were left dead. Fleeing from the flames of the caravan, Rune ran into a man wearing a large suit of armor, and a flowing white cape. Eyes agape, Rune stared at the man for another moment, and fainted.
This man was to become his guardian, and Rune's sensei for the next several years. Rune learned all about the teachings of Hyaku Tategami and Bushido, and finished his gempukku ceremony at the age of 17. They lived in peace for many years, but something came over Rune. He saw so much injustice in the world, so much hatred and impurity, and set out to do something about it. "With my sword...I will change the world..." were the last words he gave his sensei before setting off into the land of Magrathea. Rune had become a master of the sword, recalling the teachings of his father, and his sensei, and became determined to make his mark upon the world. It was then that he found Koketsu, a group of warriors who had the same beliefs as Rune, and his sensei. Rune joined Koketsu, and because of his amazing skill with a sword, paired with a quick wit, he flew through the ranks. He now stands as the leader of the clan, as written in the will of the late shogunate, Hideyoshi.
Rune's sword technique is unique to any other in the land, as his sword measures about 6 feet in height, the blade over 3 inches thick. He is also trained in using the daisho set, a pair of katanas, though he only uses them when travelling far outside of the lands of Koketsu. When seen on the battlefield, Rune can be spotted swinging his massive sword in an almost trance like frenzy...it is rumored that the powers of the "berserker" lie latent within him, though nobody can be sure...
