Wow!! You must be really bored to be coming in here!! (Grins!!-:) Anyhoo.....as you may have already guessed my name is Rick, & Yes, I'm an arcade game junkie! (heh, admitting it is much less than half the battle!:-)
You'd think I was stuck in a time-loop, as I am a "long-haired freaky person" (One of those people that your parents warned you about!! Heh!!:-)) (What can I say?? It's just no fun being "normal"!-:)
I was born "waaayy" back in 1967 (& what a fine year it was! Thanks Mom & Dad!!-:) So by the time I was in highschool, I was spending all my lunch money at the local arcades, playing all the "classics" when they were still "new" titles! Some of my favourites were: Battlezone, Defender/Stargate/Robotron/Joust, Asteroids, Berzerk, Dragons Lair, Tron, & just about any pinball machine! I think my first visit to an arcade was in the mid-late 70's, (most of the machines in the local arcade were still the old mechanical games ! Video games were a new thing back then!) I clearly recall playing lots of Sprint 2 with my brother Larry....Now I have a Sprint 2 of my own, & picked it up for far less than we spent on playing it in the arcades!! (I love this hobby!:)
Aside from trying to keep all of my (approx. 100 now!) arcade machines working (or trying to get them working) (or finding storage spaces for all of 'em...Yeesh!:-) My other interests include (but are not limited to!:)
Keeping on top of my small vending route
(mostly gumball machines...over 50 of em, all shapes & sizes!)
& I do actually operate some of my video games/pinballs out on the route as well...Not only do I make a few bucks off them each month (so I can buy more stuff!:) But it also helps with the whole storage issue...when you have soooo many machines, space really is the "final frontier"!:-) I also have some of the video games at some local youth centers (Boys & Girls club) But i just leave the machines on free play for the kids...Again, it really helps with the whole storage thing, plus it's just a cool/nice/Budha thing to do (creating a whole new generation of classic game fans! The kids just love 'em! -:)
I also play guitar in a "noisy hard-rock band"
(Click on the guitar to visit the Band's Homepage!:-)
In the summer, I'm always going to garage sales! (! I just love 'em !)
And because of going to sooo many garage sales, I also collect all kinds of wierd & tacky stuff (such as Budha ornaments/statues, wooden african carvings/masks etc. & all kinds of other wierd/tacky/bizarre/cool stuff)
I also spend alot of time "playing on the computer", surfing, & as you can see, am just learning to set-up webpages (I did the Rixarcade site, as well as our Band's Homepage, except the video clips section...That's my brother (Larry) & his partners (Mike) own server!-:) Their main site is Here! (You can check-out some cool slideshows & streaming video clips at their site!)
By the way, I am located in Edmonton, Alberta (that's in western Canada, eh!?:) The only reason you might have heard of Edmonton, is our NHL hockey team won the championship a number of times in the mid/late 80's...Otherwise, we have (supposedly) the worlds largest indoor shopping center, (west edmonton mall) (makes sense as it's *extremely* cold up here in the winter) (Read: end of october to sometime in march...urgh! We must be *crazy* to keep living up here! Heh!-:)) But it really is a great city in the spring/summertime, & is only about a 4 hour drive to the rocky mountains! (*Really* beautiful scenery out there!!)
Otherwise, the "wife" (well, we've been shacked-up for over 7 years now!) has just bought a "new" (to us!) house!! Funny thing is, it's only slightly more expensive than our old apartment was, it's a BIG house (5 bdrm/approx. 2100 sq feet + a double garage!) & one day she will actually own it & not have to throw away rent money every month! So, we've been a bit busy over the last few months, settling in to the new digs, & doing a bit of work on the place...We just recently did the shingles on the additions...(With an awful lot of help from her dad! I swear, that guy is like the Energizer bunny!! He's a workhorse!) Man, anyone who does roofing for a living does *NOT* earn enough money so far as I'm concerned!! (no matter how much $ they make!)
Well, as you can see...I lead a pretty boring life! (But I did warn you at the top of this page!!)
Better return to my front page before you fall asleep!!:-))
But thanks for coming in to have a look-see!
