Sonya Dane
The one presently known as Sonya Dane, was born in the
9th Century in Normandy & then embraced savagely & unwanted in the mid twentieth
year of the prime of her life. She's was still trying to figure out what she wanted to be
when she grew up. As she was sired in to the World of Darkness, she will never know for
sure. One thing Sonya will always be is a survivor. She started as a pauper and survived
the plague. After that, it's all a cakewalk.
Sonya's modus operandi, as it were, in life is to take it now, because
tomorrow it could disappear. In unlife, she lives by this code more then ever. For nearly
twelve centuries, she has been one of the world's most charming, competent, and totally
unrepentant of woman that kine & kindred paths have crossed. Those wished to control
or subdue this "Free" nature of hers, have not been given the opportunity to
make the same mistake...twice. Her morality is situational at best. Having seen Kine &
Kindred natures unmasked over the centuries, Sonya is wary of everyone she meets, assumes
the worst of them, and thinks the world revolves around her ... which in fact, it has. All
of this has led to a most interesting existence, filled with romance and intrigue,
adventures and riches. Above all else....Personal Horror. And it could have gone blithely
for her this way, had not an event occurred that changed the way she would look at the
rest of her life.
For a period of time during the period of the Dark Ages, Sonya cannot
recount exactly much of her past during that time. Nightmarish images during her sleep,
seen through a blood haze, Sonya vaguely witnesses such horrors she feels she has done.
Kine nor Kindred was safe from an insatiable blood lust she had experienced during that
time. Till this day, the Nightmares plague her waking mind & is a constant reminder
for her for "Self Control." The guilt sometimes of her actions overwhelms her
sometimes. She figures that, the Nightmares would have been her reality, if not for one
man. A kindred. The one known as Raul, was able to subdue the Beast & drive it back in
the recesses of Sonya's soul. Sonya, soon came to live with him for over 5 decades, for
where she was taught, discipline & self control over the Beast. He was a friend, a
mentor who had such a huge impact on her life. Though to this day, the lost of Raul is a
wound that may not be able to be healed.
Sonya is thrown by the nobility & wise-unselfishness of Raul's
teachings & ultimately his sacrifice. It turns her inward & on to the Path she is
currently on. This makes her look at who and what she is. And for the first time, she
finds herself questioning her own nature.
Amidst her mid-life crisis and changing outlook, she is also constantly
fighting with her own lifelong instincts & the bound Beast within. It's not easy,
after centuries, to realign your vision of morality. And old habits die hard. But Sonya
challenges herself this time around, and is determined to do things right.
If only she could figure out what "right" is.
