Ah, Final Fantasy 8. Truely a masterpeice. Easily the best looking Final Fantasy ever. Suare did away with the cutesy "super deformed" look and wnet for more human looking characters. The result: characters that you can identify more easily with. Not only do they look more human, but they act more human. Add in a great story, easily the best story in any Final Fantasy. Spanning 4 disks, the story is as long as it is intense. And graphically, this is easily the best looking Final Fantasy. Every area looks beautiful. The characters are extremely detailed. Even the weapons have such a high level of detail, such as the picture of Greiver eched into the side of Squall's gunblade. And the FMV's will blow you away. It's worth just renting to see the openning FMV. On to gameplay. Most of what you know about RPG gameplay no longer applies. No longer do you deal with equipping armor and accessories and such. No more learning magic the old-fashioned ways. Now you get magic one way, by taking it. Either from your enemies, or from magic fountains called 'draw points'. And magic is used for more than just casting spells. It can also be bound to your characters. Increasing and decreasing stats to customize your characters. Also, each character can use only 4 different skills at a time. You must choose who gets what. This Final Fantasy's battle system heavily relies on the summonning of monsters. You get several monsters throughout the game. These monsters are bound to your characters, and provide them with their abilities. The complex character customization system is intimidating at first and kept a good number of gamers from playing this game. But once you master it, you will appreciate how detailed it is. This is easily one of the best Final Fantasy's. Don't miss it.. |
