Responsibilities
Ranks. All characters will begin at captain (Once they have completed their academy training). The Positions with their ranks and responsibilities are as follows:
Cadet: This is the Rank held by inprocessing pilots. No pay is received at this rank.
Element Member / Lieutenant – Currently only NPC wingman hold this rank.Once the SFC Academy gets into full swing in is my intention of bringing in new characters as Lieutenants until such time as they graduate from the 1st SFC academy when they will be promoted to Captain. You will still act as an element leader although the rank will be Lieutenant. No current Captains will be demoted once it is online but they will not be promoted until they complete the 1st academy
Element Leader / Captain – This is currently where all SFC players begin commanding 2 fighters. You are responsible upon acceptance for making a sheet for your wingman, which will be given to your Squadron CO and Squadron GM. Your squadron number as an element leader will be 3, 7 or 11.You are responsible for role-playing your character and your wingman when needed. You will learn how to give proper tactical orders. You will attend and graduate the 1st SFC Academy before being assigned to an active squadron. (When the 1st academy comes online ALL players will be required to go through this. Notes will be made in your service record reflecting completion of this course.) Many players that want to just participate and not take on any responsibility will stay at this rank / position, nothing is wrong with that and if that is what the player desires that is fine. Will report to those officers in your chain of command as necessary.
Flight Leader / Captain or Major – A Flight Leader Commands 4 fighters, including one PC element leader and 2 NPC's. Your squadron number is 9, you will command the 9-12 fighters when in flight groups. A step above element leader, this is a position often used by Senior Officers to judge the talents of promising pilots. This position qualifies for attendance at the 2nd SFC academy, although XO's and CO's have a higher precedence for slots. Can be relieved of position by Squadron Commander or anyone higher than that in the chain of command, the squadron XO cannot relieve you of your duties. Personnel should assume this character is the Senior Captain in the squadron.
XO / Captain or Major – 2nd in charge of the squadron, your squadron number is 5. You will lead the 5-8 fighters in the squadron when in flight groups. You are a step above the Flight leader and take charge in the Squadron Commanders absence. This is another position used to test out the abilities of promising pilots, coordination and issuing orders becomes important in this position as you are a step away from assuming squadron command. This position qualifies for attendance at the 2nd SFC academy, although CO's have a higher precedence for slots. Personnel should assume this character carries the rank of Major even if not officially promoted to this level.
ISFC Academy Instructor / Teaches classes in accordance with the curriculum developed by the ISFC Commandant. Requires skills as a Player and as a GM. Position is equivalent to Squadron Commander. This position does not require you give up any other positions you hold or preclude membership in a squadron.
Squadron Commander / Captain, Major, or Commander – You call the shots for your squadron. You will be required to attend and graduate the 2nd SFC academy. You control all fighters in the squadron and your squadron number is 1 or leader. (Example Omega 1 or Omega Leader are both appropriate but most choose to use Leader). Giving orders and keeping things moving within the squadron (this will require E-Mail and ICQ contact with your pilots) is your prime duty. You will take orders from the Wing Commander in situations where he is present. It is highly desirable that you develop a squadron webpage to keep track of your pilots. Also you should be talking OOC to the squadron GM to keep things flowing smoothly in the adventures. Not all are suitable for this responsibility, those that don't do a good job will be relieved of their Commands by their Wing Commander or any one higher up the chain of command. This position is crucial as you are the focal point for your group, for the good of all involved slackers should not accept this position. Personnel should assume this character carries the rank of Commander even if not officially promoted to this level.
Wing XO / Major or Commander – This is largely an administrative position that can be appointed by the Wing Commander. He will help the Wing CO with the duties of running the Wing. A person can hold both a squadron command and this position simultaneously. Personnel should assume this person carries the rank of Commander and is senior to the squadron Commanders.
ISFC Academy Commandant / Major or higher – Develops the curriculum for the SFC academies in coordination with the SFC XO. Acts as head ISFC Instructor and will teach one of the academies. This position is time intensive and will require both Player and GM skills. May recommend appointment of additional instructors, appointments will be approved by the SFC XO or SFC CO. This position is considered the equivalent of Wing Commander. This position does not require you give up any other positions you hold or preclude membership in a squadron.
Wing Commander / Major, Commander or Major General – Responsible for combat and administration of everything within their Wing (up to 6 squadrons). This position is important in large combat operations as well as administrative tasks. All information destined for higher personnel should be channeled 1st to the squadron Commanders and 2nd to the Wing Commanders (example is recommendations for promotion). They can reassign personnel within their wings and remove FL's and XO's from their positions. They can recommend removal
