A bit in the dark about the Pokemon Games or about what this site focuses on? Well this page is here to help! I'll start from the top. "Pokemon" is a game where you capture and train Pokemon, and while doing so encounter villians and other challenges. These Pokemon are strange and wondrous creatures that inhabitat the fictional world of "Pokemon", or "Pocket Monsters" (or, Poketto Monstaa, I'm not really sure about the exact spelling) in Japan where the craze originated about 2 years ago. This craze has not slowed down one bit either! On the subject of intercontinental craze, Nintendo has yet to release the other 2 versions of the 4 version set to America (also not seeing America is the card game similar to "Magic: The Gathering" and truckloads of merchandise...maybe someday :-) The 2 versions in America are the Red and Blue versions, while the Yellow and Green are still in Japan. If you have not bought the game, I seriously suggest you do so! It is definatley worth it. If you have, keep reading...if not come back when you've bought it.

Red, Blue? What's up with the versions. Well, to simply put it, some Pokemon are not found in some versions. Another difference is the fact that some Pokemon are more rare than others in the game. The walkhthrough and reference section indicates these rarities. Here is the missing Pokemon chart:

BLUE VERSION MISSING POKEMON RED VERSION MISSING POKEMON
Ekans, Arbok, Mankey, Primeape, Oddish, Gloom, Vileplume, Growlithe, Arcanine, Scyther, Electabuzz Sandshrew, Sandslash, Meowth, Persian, Bellsprout, Weepingbell, Victreebel, Vulpix, Ninetales, Pinsir, Magmar

Link with a friend? In the game there are Pokecenters, places where Pokemon can be healed, you can access items/Pokemon/Prof. Oaks Pokedex rating system all of these 3 via PC, or link with a friend. To link, you and a friend simply connect each others GameBoy's with the gamelink cable, go the Cable Club in the Pokecenter, and choose to go into either the Trade Center (where you trade Pokemon) or Colleseum (where you battle your friend). It's rather simple.

PC? There are up to 4 options available on the PC: Someone's PC (Bill's PC), name's PC, Prof. Oak's PC, and if you beat the Elite Four (see Walkthrough--glossary) then the Pokemon Hall of Fame option is available. Bill's PC, you can store, retrieve, release and change your Pokemon Box. A Pokemon Box is where your PC Pokemon are stored, if it gets full, select change box to go to a new box. name's PC, you can store, retrieve, and dump items. Prof. Oak's PC is where you get your Pokedex rated. The Hall of Fame is where you can view the Pokemon you beat the Elite Four with. Simple.

Pokemon are divided into 15 different types. Some Pokemon are dual types. For example, Bulbasaur is grass and poison while Charmander is fire. Based on these types, a rock, paper, scissors effect is form. For example: water beats fire, fire beats grass, grass beats water. The chain is much greater, however. More on this topic in the Strategy Guide.

How do you capture Pokemon? You simply use a Pokeball, a device where Pokemon are stored when not in combat. You use these Pokeballs in battle with a wild Pokemon when it's health has been lowered. Note, there is always a possibility with any Pokeball (except the Master Ball) that a Pokemon could break free. There are 5 types of Pokeballs: Pokeball, Great Ball, Ultra Ball, Safari Ball, Master Ball. There is only one Master Ball in the game...it does NOT fail! You can guess by the Pokeball names which ones have better capture rates.

Experience and Levels. During battles Pokemon gain experience points. After enough experience points are acquired, that Pokemon grows to another level. After so many levels that Pokemon may evolve (depending on the Pokemon; some Pokemon never evolve). Meaning, they grow to a new, advanced form. More information on Pokemon training in the Strategy Guide

One more bit of information before you move on. I suggest that you thoroughly read your Pokemon Instruction Manual that came with your game. This is the most complete game information available. This is mearly an intro.
